We were welcomed to Yamaichi Bekkan with open arms. We felt very comfortable when we arrived. My partner is vegetarian however we didn’t book a vegetarian meal with dinner. The staff were so incredibly kind about this and the chef made a meal specifically for my partner while we were at dinner. We both had an amazing, great value for money meal. We had lovely conversations with the chef. The room was exceptional, clean and comfortable. We cannot thank the staff enough for having us and their hospitality. We would love to visit again! 10/10 would recommend to anyone visiting Miyajima island!

The elderly lady was such an amazing host and very accommodating. She gave me tips on exploring the island once I arrived, and served me an amazing 7-course dinner. She even shared some stories about her family. She was apologetic that the place was expensive since I was a solo traveler, but it was fine for me. I think their accommodation is one of the cheapest I found in the island. The hotel is just in front of the ferry terminal, and just beside the Lawson convenience store. Honestly, I would gladly book them again when I come again to Miyajima.

I guess if I'm going to nitpick, I saw some dead insects on the bedsheet, those insects that flock the lamps at night, so I am assuming the room wasn't totally cleaned.

it was an amazing stay! I recommended anyone wanting to stay in the island stay here! the staff is super friendly! I also recommend getting dinner at the hotel as well. each night we had a 5-7 course meal that was fantastic and filled with local ingredients. we stayed in the Japanese style room and it was very comfortable and one of the bigger rooms we had on the trip. a solid 9/10 definitely recommend!

nothing at all! the only nit pick is the building is a bit dated and showing it's age a bit from the outside. but really this did not impact our stay. very nice hotel for staying in the island!

They were incredibly kind to me. I felt so well taken care of. The room was beautiful (my photo doesn't do it justice) and there was so much attention to detail, including the tea and coffee set and the beautiful bunch of flowers. The room had an incredible view, was spacious, the bed was very comfortable (and I normally struggle to sleep on a Japanese futon because of a bad back) They were very kind and accommodating for my ridiculous request for three giant pillows too :) The location is great because it's just opposite the ferry pier so you don't need to carry your luggage for ages. The rooms are up some stairs but they're very very kindly carried my very heavy suitcase up for me. The food was delicious and so much care was taken to make me a special vegetarian and gluten-free meals. My favorite meals were the Japanese breakfasts in the mornings :) so much effort was made to explain everything to me and make everything very special. I'm only sorry that I don't speak sufficient Japanese.

We absolutely loved our stay at Yamaichi Bekkan! Shinko was a wonderful host who made us feel very welcome and gave us a delicious dinner and fantastic Japanese breakfast during our stay. We stayed in a traditional Japanese room with tatami mats and futon beds and really enjoyed the peace and quiet staying on Miyajima after all the day trippers had gone back to the mainland! The inn is very handily located right next to the ferry terminal and a small Lawson convenience store. Thanks again for your kindness, Shinko - we would love to come back sometime! :-)

There was nothing we didn’t like!

The hosts were nothing short of kindness and generosity. Upon arrival from the ferry, I was already nauseous and had caught food poisoning that afternoon. I was so lethargic and unwell that I went to bed around 7pm. Throughout this dramatic ordeal, the hosts checked in frequently and expressed their genuine care. They even gave me some Japanese medicinal tablets and I forgotten to bring my own nausea medication, and the clinic was then closed. Even during check-out, the hosts continued to express concern and advised that I visit the clinic on the island, to which I heeded. Thank you so much for looking after me. I am indebted to your kindness, and look forward to visiting you again another time in the future. ありがとうございました!

Nothing that I didn't like! Only that I sadly could not enjoy the exquisite dinner and breakfast meals provided by this location as I was far too unwell throughout my 1 night stay here. This had negatively impacted my experience as I could not fully appreciate what Yamaichi Bekkan had to offer in terms of the food, the bedding and the amenities. That evening, I literally cancelled all my itinerary plans for Miyajima the next day including an early morning hike on Mt Misen, sighting Itsukushima Shrine and tasting momiji manju. Instead, I walked to the clinic and then went back to the ferry for my next destination. To redeem this moment, I will make it my personal endeavour to visit again and appreciate Miyajima in all its beauty.

What a delightful reception from the staff. Thank you for making us so welcome and treating us as if we were family. I can’t imagine visiting another accommodation and having such a warm welcome; it enhanced our stay so much. As well as the welcoming staff the location could not have been better. It’s directly opposite the ferry terminal and we were able to drop our bags off early and explore before checking in. We were given excellent advice about the best routes to avoid the crowds coming from the constant ferry arrivals and see magnificent Sakura (🌸) and other local flora and fauna. We booked with dinner included and it too was very good. We are grateful for the way the chef talked us through each dish in terms of its ingredients and their provenance; he was proud of the fact that everything was locally sourced or caught. Each dish was tasty, with only the tempura falling below the very high standard of the other courses. This is a place to visit if you want to feel like you are being welcomed into the heart of a family and what more can you ask? Our heartfelt thanks go to everyone at Yamaichi Bekkan.

The location was fantastic - it was right next to the ferry terminal and had a great view of the mountains and the water. I loved the traditional style room with the tatami mats, and they even provided yukatas and sandals for us to walk around the island in. The dinner that came with the booking was delicious and very high value - you get to taste the specialties of Miyajima, as well as other yummy Japanese food. The staff, and especially the host, were very kind and friendly, welcoming us whenever we came back and chatting with us over dinner. The host gave us directions and tips for exploring the island, and even helped us fix our yukatas so that we were wearing it properly!

We had an incredible stay at Yamaichi Bekkan, and a huge part of that was thanks to the wonderful owner. From the moment we arrived, she greeted us with warmth and personally took care of everything, making us feel truly at home. Her hospitality was beyond excellent—she went out of her way to accommodate us, guided us on the best things to do in Miyajima, and made sure we had everything we needed. She even allowed us to change rooms, which we greatly appreciated. The food was absolutely amazing—local, fresh, and full of flavour. Every meal felt like a true taste of Miyajima. The location is also perfect—just a one-minute walk from the ferry, making it incredibly convenient for exploring the island and heading back to Hiroshima. Most of all, the owner is simply a genuine and kind-hearted person. Staying here felt more like visiting a caring relative than a hotel. If you're looking for a warm, personal, and unforgettable experience in Miyajima, this is the place to be.

Dinner was included in the price, so for two nights we dined on superlative Japanese cuisine. Our hostess was the most wonderful woman, who really wanted to engage with us because we were all of an age. Talking with her was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan. The location is outstanding, right near the ferry terminal, and easy walking to the famous torii gate.

The room was tiny, but this is Japan! It's an old ryokan, and obviously built long before expectations of today's tourists. It was no trouble.
