I’d give this 11/10 if I could. The owner and his team went out of their way to make us feel welcome and comfortable. Lovely room with comfortable beds and a futon for our daughter (also comfortable) overlooking the peaceful garden. Breakfast each day was different, with several delicious courses. We had dinner one night at the hotel which was a gastronomical delight. All beautifully prepared in front of us. This hotel is situated in a quiet back street in the old town and walking distance from all the main places to see in Kanazawa. Not cheap but worth it. Highly recommended!

Absolute highlight is the 10 course degustation Japanese food experience. My husband said it was the “Japanese meal he has ever experienced”! Do yourself a favour. If you stay here book the restaurant. While it might be considered expensive it really is a gastronomical affair of taste, sight and smells. Not too mention watching the chefs execute their art. Because let’s face it- you are watching food art happen right in front of you.

Nothing. A little lost in translation. But that’s he fun of finding an understanding with Google translate which definitely helps. Overall, they went over and above to help us have a great stay.

Maki No Oto Kanazawa was simply the best! We stayed at some very large, expensive hotels during our Japan vacation but I would honestly rate this hotel as the best experience we had on our vacation. Yama and Masayo were delightful hosts. We loved being the Geisha District. It was a very unique experience. The hotel itself was lovely...the attention to the smallest detail was very impressive. If you stay you MUST have the dinner offered in the hotel. It was one of the best meals we had during the trip. Breakfast was also charming. There was honestly nothing we didn't like! Perfect place to stay!

The best we had in Japan. Amazing owner, hospitality, food, room and location. I was treated like a king in the beautiful old world japan with modern rooms and wonderful food. Great a/c and heater. Very comfortable beds. The owner even gifted us two amazing cans of tea. The best Ryoken experience one could ask for.

Nothing fell short

The room was beautifully furnished and really lovely, with a view of the garden. Architecturally gorgeous. Dinner and breakfasts were delicious and perfectly executed. More importantly the overall service was professional, gracious and attentive without being obtrusive. This was the most memorable point of our trip. On our next trip to Japan we will definitely check out it’s sister location in Toyama.

Nothing, this stay was perfect!

The room we stayed in Nishi far exceeded our expectations. High-quality and well thought out amenities were provided. Ryoma Sakai- san and Mayo-san, Leo and team have been absolutely warm and delightful.

There is nothing that we didn’t like, but it would be a bonus if there is a choice of Japanese breakfast.

The staff could not do enough to make sure I was okay, they were so helpful even though I only stayed for one night. I felt very well looked after especially at breakfast. Breakfast was fantastic, it felt very personalised and in serene surroundings. The ryokan is very aesthetically pleasing and close to main sights.

The bed was not comfortable at all and I did not sleep well. There was also a funny smell and the fan which I had to keep on, as it was hot in the room was quite noisy.

Outstanding repeat stay - love location, design and meals here: dinner here is one of best we had over our many Japan trips, sit at counter to see chefs perform. Room is super-comfy, with views i side the lovely Japanese gardens

The breakfast at Maki No Oto were very good. They also booked us into a sister restaurant for our first night, which also was delicious! The rooms were comfortable, we had one of the western style rooms.

We enjoyed everything.

Great location, excellent service, spacious and well appointed room.

Would have preferred Japanese style breakfast instead of continental
