Lovely traditional ryokan nestled in the heart of Kanazawa. Great location in terms of visiting the sights of Kanazawa. 5 minute walk for local market, 10 minute walk from Kanazawa castle park and Kenrokuen Garden, 20 minute walk from train station. Bungo and his mother run the ryokan and were extremely helpful and knowledgeable when it came to local sights and restaurants. No trip to Kanazawa would be complete without trying the Kanazawa curry, we went to Kanazawa Curry Laboratory, it was 5 minutes away and tremendous! Thank you for a super stay!

The hotel is very beautiful, you feel in the traditional Japanese style. The room for 4+ people with tatami mats is large. The staff can help us if we have any requests. Everything is clean. Even though the showers are separate from the room, in the morning they were always free. The location is close to the castle, Gaisha district and the fish market, it is great for visiting.

Check-out is at 10am, so you need to get ready quickly. No laundry room. There are not many buses that pass nearby, it is better to walk to the fish market to take the bus to Kanazawa station.

Very friendly traditional Japanese Inn in a good location to walk to Higashi Chaya and Omicho Market, and close to bus stops. The inn is relatively small and family run, so we were requested to specify an approximate arrival time and were welcomed by the family. Our room was traditional, a little on the small side, but comfortable enough for sleeping. Bathrooms and showers are shared and outside the room. THere is also a small private Japanese bath in the basement, which can be used on a first come first serve basis, which we didn't use (we went to an onsen for our bathing). We slept well on the moderately hard futons, and I still need to get used to sitting on the floor. The host speaks English and helped us with a dinner reservation and called a taxi, and like most places I have been to, very friendly. There is also a little dining room with a TV, and a great coffee machine with free tea and coffee, and a shared fridge, great for bringing breakfast from the konbini as you will have to bring your own breakfast.

Considering the price we paid, I cannot fault anything. You need to be aware that Japanese inns do things differently, shoes off at the entrance, be careful with the traditional painted walls, paper screens etc., shared bathrooms. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

Excellent value for money. Bungo at the reception, was extremely helpful and friendly. He gave us great recommendations, helped us book meals, experiences etc... Everyone else was also very nice and friendly, always busy making the place spotlessly clean! And indeed the rooms and the shared facilities were very, very clean! They provided nice Yukatas, slippers and umberellas. The location was great, 5mn from the market, 10mn from the Geisha district and walking distance from everywhere else! We really loved our stay in Kanazawa and recommend this ryokan!

I couldn't recommend this place enough. I booked a few nights here after reading all of the reviews, and I was not disappointed. Bungo and his mother were the kindest, most welcoming hosts. Bungo very diligently went over a map of Kanazawa with me when I first arrived and gave his recommendations for landmarks/sightseeing. He also provided me with QR codes of lists on Google Maps of all of their recommended restaurants, both breakfast and dinner, which I saved and found incredibly helpful as I was exploring the city. The building is clean, well-maintained, and has so much character. It's very obvious how much the family values the property by the amount of care they put into it. I had a single room and was astonished by the amount of space that it had with cabinets, drawers, and an entire 'entryway' to the room where you could take off your slippers. I could very easily have my large suitcase open in that part of the room off of the tatami and out of the way. I slept very comfortably on the futon and had very few issues with noise from other guests during the night. I also loved the bath in the basement--you can leave a sign at the top of the stairs indicating that it's occupied so you can use it in private. The location is right in the middle of Kanazawa and within walking distance of Kenrokuen, the Higashichaya District, Omicho Market, etc. Convenience store is a two-minute walk. You will need to take a taxi from Kanazawa Station if you have a lot of heavy luggage like I did, though fare is only about 1100-1200 JPY. Many, many thanks to Bungo, his mother, and the staff for making my visit to Kanazawa so pleasant. I'll absolutely be returning if I find myself back in the area someday!

None, everything was great. Standard caveats of staying in a ryokan like shared bathrooms, thin walls, etc.

As a family of one adult and two kids, we loved the Ryoken Yamamuro. It was a really special experience for us. The staff were very friendly and very helpful with giving us suggestions on local attractions and necessities. We loved the traditional reindeer, little Japanese garden outside of our room and the Onsen. The shared kitchen with microwave was also a bonus!

We had a downstairs room and it was a bit noisy with people walking above us, but that is the nature of being in this style of accommodation. Likewise, the parking lot next door has a security light that shines in through the shoji-cha, which if you don't like to sleep with light could be a problem unless you take an eye mask. But don't let these things detract from your decision, it's a wonderful place to stay.

The room was very spacious. We had our own toilet and shower, which was great. Staff were lovely and kind, happy to provide help and information on Kanazawa's restaurants and attractions. They have umbrellas you could bowwor in case of rain, which came very handy. Tea and biscuits were provided, as well as coffee, fridge and an eating area in the common space. It's also perfectly located in a quiet street, but very close to restaurants, the market and Kanazawa castle grounds with the famous garden. Overall, we loved the place.

As with most ryokans in old buildings, walls are thin so the experience depends somewhat on the other guests. Our first night was great, but on the second one we did hear our upstairs neighbors talking and moving about quite loudly at night. This is not the fault of this ryokan, mind. The bathroom area could get a tad cold in chilly weather - no issues in the room itself which can be heated.

Virtues abound at this wonderful inn. The central location, the accommodating staff, the many room choices, the very nice onsen bath, the easy and pleasant common room, the perfect pillows and non-down comforters, the very quiet neighborhood. We stayed in the quiet second floor family room (with restrooms also on the second floor.) For what you get, this place is a bargain! Also, the incredible Kanazawa Curry Laboratory restaurant is only a few blocks away. Best three nights sleep we have had in years of visiting Japan!

Nothing, we loved this place and Bungo-San!

There is a reason why the ratings are so high! Very clean facilities, cute and comfortable room, perfect location, Bungo and his mom were very sweet and helpful, Bungo gave great local recommendations, the onsen in the basement was amazing for my sore feet and muscles after a lot of sightseeing! Price was really a bargain. Although bathroom and onsen were shared, I never ran into any problems with not being able to use them when I wanted to.

The only thing I can think of is that the walls are a little thin. There is nothing that can be done about this though since it is a historic traditional building.

AMAZING. Very comfortable, clean, great location and super authentic Japanese room. I honestly couldn't ask for anything better. Bungo was very welcoming and provided a list of recommendations. He even helped us book a few things over the phone. His mum was also very friendly! The tea in the room was delicious and we enjoyed the onsen downstairs as well. This place made our experience in Kanazawa so special.
