Although the communication in english was not that easy the hotel staff were very friendly and helpful overall especially Aiko who attended us at our arrival. The atmosphere of the hotel is pleasant and warm that makes you feel comfortable and relaxed. The hot tubs in open air, the food, the small souvenir shop in the lobby, the location of the hotel and the free shuttle service are all characteristics that make Arima Onsen Gekkoen Yugetsusanso uncomparable. I would recommend the hotel to friends who visit the neighbourhood. We used the free shuttle to visit the Mt. Rokko Arima Ropeway which is within a 4-minute drive from the hotel. That was after checking out of the hotel. Though they kept our luggage and drove us to and from the station. The Ropeway is also a must-to-do.

We stayed the last 2 days of our 16 day Japan tour in Arima Onsen, to relax. And it was perfect for relaxing. Very good hot spring option (Public and private), beautiful Ryokan style rooms. Good service. But, most importantly, we stayed with breakfast and dinner included. A very good choice; as the open buffet was excellent. The variety, the quality, the abundance (sashimi, steak, noodles, fish, desserts ... everything).

The facility is very old and probably needs a renovation. For example the A/C in the room was a very old model with mechanical switches. I think versus the beautiful hot spring and dining experience at the hotel, the run down facilities is what holds us back from marking it a perfect stay.

The breakfast and dinner buffet had a nice variety of dishes, that where well prepared. The staff was exceptionally helpful for a non Japanese speaker. You wouldn't get this kind of service in the USA. The hotel itself is dated, like a grand dame of yester-years. Yet the room was comfortable, clean and traditional tatami style. The calming sound of the river can be heard everywhere, even in the "outdoor " onsen. The hotel is at the top of a hill, so be prepared to walk to get to Arima town. I would definitely recommend this place for a weekend get away to recharge.

The room door lock is keyed, so don't lose it.

We booked the ryokan so our toddler can experience his 1st onsen & ryokan stay. We spotted some shops and eateries while driving to the property but didn't manage to explore the area as we were there only for a night. Free praking available at the property. The room is in a good size. Breakfast and dinner spreads were good, lots of varieties. A little lacking in taste for some of the food but still acceptable. Overall we quite enjoy our stay and our boy had fun doing onsen.

We booked for 2 Adt + 1 Tod and was provided with only 2 tatami beds. When we asked for additional tatami for our boy, we were told that kids stay for free but if additional tatami needed, we have to pay for it. We had stayed in some ryokans where they kept extra sets of tatami in the room for guests to use without additional charge so this was abit of a bummer. Also, the walls seems to be pretty thin coz we could hear our rowdy neighbours till past midnight.

Unfortunately it was only one night, but it was an immensely appreciated stay. The peace, the tranquility, the silent environment, the wonderful gardens, sleeping on the tatami, the herbal tea taken on the veranda overlooking the garden, the dinner wearing the yukata: I hope to be able to return and enjoy a longer holiday. The dinner and breakfast are buffet style, with a wide choice of Japanese dishes, which I really appreciated; there was also a good choice of dishes for those who don't like their cuisine. The staff were helpful and extremely kind.

Cannot say enough good things about our stay here. The staff provided an impeccable service from the moment we arrived, we felt like VIPs the whole time we were there. The location is stunning, situated up the hill at the back of town, away from the bustle of the tourist streets, and spanning the river, which we had a gorgeous view of from our room. The room was cosy and spacious. The traditional onsen ryokan aesthetic greets you the moment you walk in the door. Special mention given for catering to our awkward dietary requirements with the included meals (seafood allergy and a vegetarian between us). Our special dinner inclusions were still fantastic despite this, and I didn't feel like I was missing out or getting a "consolation prize" meal. The breakfast buffet is also good, it leans heavily toward Japanese cuisine but there's enough there for fussy westerners like me. This is definitely a great place to stay if a traditional Japanese breakfast is not to your taste. There's a couple of different baths to choose from. I enjoyed the outdoor bath with rich iron content in the water. The temperature of the water was also perfect for me. I also noticed they had a sign saying there were private baths available for guests with tattoos, which seems like a bit of a rarity.

Not much to say bad about the place. The carpet is a little old in some of the hallways and could do with being replaced I guess, but in the scheme of things, I felt that just added to the rustic charm.

The setup is beautiful. We were in the Sakura season and the little spring was bordered by cherry trees in bloom and the bridge and lobby provided a beautiful view. We are not Japanese and we liked the food ( japanese) provided in the evening and morning, buffet style. We used the private cave bath and the common open baths and we liked both. Maybe more the common baths. Personnel was extremely polite and helpful. Arima has some picturesque old streets with traditional houses. All in all, it was a very nice experience for a foreigner in Japan, even for one night only.

Hotel seemed a little dated but it did not impact the comfort and cleanliness.

Very cool Ryokan and hotel combination. The bridge in the photos is part of the hotel and divides the classic Ryokan side of the hotel and the more modern multilevel hotel. There are three onsen baths in the hotel and three more private baths that may be rented. We only went to the non-private baths which were still excellent. The bath in the modern hotel (Korokan) was super nice. We stayed in the classic Ryokan side. Great experience overall.

Could have used an extra towel per person in the room to begin with. That is the only tip I have for hotel management. Otherwise, it was great.
