Good location with many little restaurants and bars nearby. Good deal with the adjacent car park too (1300 yen per 24 hours). Breakfast OK - many Japanese options, but not so many western ones if that is what you want. Enough vegetable and salad options to satisfy a vegetarian I would think.

The arrangement for breakfast when there are large groups booked in is not good enough for guests paying for breakfasts. It sounds as if being given a 45 minute time slot for breakfast would be enough, but with the queues snaking along the buffet, it was 20 minutes into our allotted time before we sat down to eat. At least there are no restrictions when bookings are less. It seems they need to start serving breakfast earlier and run it later to avoid feeling like we were in a boarding school or a canteen.

- We paid extra for 1 day of breakfast, and it was delicious. (The Takana Rice and Dago Soup is a must try! ) - The shared onsen on the top floor was enjoyable. - The staff was friendly and welcoming. -The hotel is located near a shotengai, making it convenient to walk to Don Quijote, pharmacies, and other shops. A famous tonkatsu restaurant and a nearby mall add to the convenience. -Kumamoto Castle is just a short walk away. - The hotel is also only four tram stations (about 15 minutes) from Kumamoto Station. - Onsen is open from 3pm all the way to 11am next day meaning you can use them in wee hours too!

The onsen crowd level displayed on the TV was inaccurate. It showed as unoccupied, but in reality, it was slightly crowded. This could be disappointing for those who are shy about using a public onsen, as they might expect an empty space but find it crowded upon arrival.

Great location, just 1 minute from the covered shopping arcades, 5 mins from the tram stop (15 minutes to the station) Easy walk to the castle. Friendly, welcoming staff. Lovely large room (specifically booked bigger room) kettle, fridge, TV, toiletries. Shower over bath. Comfy bed with super light duvet. Buffet style hot & cold breakfast - had to reserve a time slot the first day due to being busy, but free time the other days. There is a spa on the top floor with separate men & women baths. We requested to leave our luggage on the day of departure & it wasn't an issue.

Our room was big and comfortable. The washing machine (2 on every other floor) was a modern machine and worked well. The onsen type spa pools are nice and were not too busy when we were there.

The range of food for breakfast ok, but breakfast felt very rushed. We had to chooses time slot, and unlike other hotels we stayed at, we felt quite pressured for time. There seemed too few staff for the numbers of people staying and they were constantly rushing around trying to clear tables and restock the buffet. The hotel seems to cater for larger tour groups, and the lift lobby was often crowded.

The location was great, the room was spacious, loved the separate shower room. The staff is very nice and welcoming. We loved the couch in our room. Happy to also have a view of the castle. The laundry facilities were also a plus. Room was very comfortable.

The room had shelves in the closet that were extremely dusty and hadn’t been cleaned in a long time. We had put some bags up there and when we pulled them down, they were covered in dust and it flew through the room. The rest of the room was very clean though. The staff was nice but not very English speaking friendly. We had only come across one English speaking staff member for our whole stay. So google translate was our friend to help with our limited Japanese. Would have loved to experience the onsen but the property had strict rules about tattoos.

Location wise this hotel is in the middle of the hustle and bustle of central Kumamoto so great if you are aiming for that. Getting from and to the JR Kumamoto station was also very straightforward and quick. The room was spacious and clean, with touches of luxury throughout. Size of the room was above average for Japan measures. Breakfast was also varied and the views from the breakfast area are grand (Kumamoto castle grand!).

For a hotel this big the public bath felt small and was crowded most of the time (not sure if I was there when big groups of tourists from overseas were also staying at the hotel). Also for a hotel this size and number of stars one would expect the public bath is cleaned more regularly (the light coloured floor was full of hair every time I visited with trash on the floor at the sides of the locker space). Also I felt that the price was a little high compared to other hotels in the area.

Booked one quadruple room for a family of five. The kids 10,11,14 shared two beds by pushing them together to sleep as one big bed. Enough space to open two luggages. Lovely room setup. Onsen was wonderful with a cold pool to dip in. Overall the hotel feels quite new. We parked opposite the hotel at Times parking. Many restaurants and convenience stores nearby

The extra blanket for the fifth person was a heavy scratchy kind which wasn’t warm enough and scratched my neck the whole night. Other than that it was a good experience.

Like in all Candeo Hotels the rooftop Onsen is a plus. Location is perfect to explore Kumamoto for a few days. We stayed there as a family of four with two toddlers in a large twin room. Everything perfect as long as you don't mind to share the bed. I especially liked the fact we had room with two side facing windows with great views!

It seems to be a bit dated. Still clean though...just not very shiny new and modern anymore.

Room was reasonable size for Japan. Well appointnted and modern. The onSen was excellent. Location was very central and easy to walk everywhere. Plenty of restaurants nearby. Easy to check out...dropp key off as leaving..

Information on the parking before arriving would have been useful. We had a lot of trouble actually finding the hotel and initially went to the wrong hotel. This caused a 2 hour delay driving around the city...very annoying. Should have better location information when booking.

The location was great- right around the corner from a covered mall with dozens of food and shopping choices, than 5 minutes walk to tram stop to the train station; also only a short walk to Kumamoto Castle. Good sized room, and the onsen was appreciated at the end of big walking days

I found the beds truly hard and uncomfortable, also the pillows.
