The staff was amazing and made the place feel like home. Starting at check in you’re greeted by the lovely pup Jiro. Then throughout my stay, everyone was so helpful and friendly. As a solo traveler, I was sad to leave a place that made me feel like family. It feels like you’re staying in an authentic traditional Japanese home turned hostel.

There was no air conditioning in the communal space upstairs but bedrooms and main area downstairs were great. I had a top bunk and was the last to arrive in my dorm, so there was not much room to have any luggage in the bedroom with me. I kept my stuff in the locker in the communal area. It was fine for me to have luggage and another room, but not my favorite.

Warm, peaceful, and perfectly located, I felt at home. The location is excellent, just a short walk from the Heian Shrine and with easy access to public transportation. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, and to my surprise, they were huge fans of Brazil, which made me feel even more welcomed. Breakfast was a lovely touch: simple, fresh, and clearly prepared with care. The room and common areas were always clean, and the little garden added a peaceful charm to the stay. The cost-benefit is amazing, especially in Kyoto.

The only downside was that my room faced a busy street, so I could hear traffic noise during the night. Still, I was always so tired from exploring that I managed to sleep well anyway. I’d definitely stay here again!

I stayed here 13 nights, and I will definitely come back if visiting Kyoto. Some highlights were: Kind and caring staff Nice breakfast (I was too well-fed) Everything is very organised (and systematised) The cozy atmosphere of a traditional Japanese house Jiro the Shiba Inu

I had an amazing time and can't ask for more, but just to help people make informed decisions Some rooms are facing the road; I slept very well regardless, but some might find car noises loud at night Also, note that not everyone would find guesthouse in general as most comfy

Great little hostel with good vibe. Fantastic value for Kyoto. The absolute best breakfast we had in any accommodation in Japan! So much variety including lots of fruit, cannot believe breakfast is included for this price. Good location, 5mins walk from metro stop, 10min walk from Ninenzaka street. Walkable to Gion and kiyomizudera temple. Some great affordable restaurants nearby. Good storage lockers - can’t quite get a large backpack in but can get essentials/valuables in. Does not offer luggage forwarding but is directly opposite Lawson who were able to do this for us. V helpful staff and lovely family.

Nothing!

I absolutely loved this hostel - the owner, Jiro, Shoko san, and other staff - everyone was such a delight to meet. the guest house is a traditional old Japanese style wooden house - which must be experienced! Breakfast - made with soo much love, not only was a balanced variety of foods provided, the host provided many seasonal fruit options! The positive attitude is so infectious - even the guests were in delightful mood when lounging. I do miss Jiro - the cutest Shiba I met in Japan. I take very fond memories from here - and wish to see them whenever I'm in kyoto!

Location is excellent for getting around the temple-rich area of East Kyoto. The breakfast buffet is excellent especially considering how expensive food is in Kyoto. There is free coffee and tea all day, which makes the place so homely. Staff are friendly and speak great English. The dog is quiet and super well behaved. The mixed dorm overlooks the courtyard, so is quiet and the curtains offer excellent blackout. Had lovely time with the other guests and extended my stay twice!

My bed had a big dip in the mattress, so was slightly uncomfortable. Wish the showers were a touch hotter, but they were perfectly comfortable nonetheless.

1) Breakfast was excellent which was prepared by the owner itself. Their miso soup was the highlight dish. The owner was so kind that he offered us breakfast on the day of our check-in as we arrived there early morning. 2) The guest house was very close to all major tourist spots, metro station and convenient stores. 3) The place had a very positive and homely vibe because their employee- Jiro, who was the sweetest dog we met.

Since it is an old wooden house, the ventilation and electric sockets were not proper.

Absolute best vibes! The staff (and resident dog, Jiro) are so chill and friendly. Very friendly and homely atmosphere in an excellent location! Take a walk down the street towards the station, past the bridge: there's an alley with hundreds of lanterns in it. The guy who owns the first shop on the corner (next to the lady who sells 1000¥ kimonos- yes, really: they're legit, just might have the tiniest bit of damage) is awesome and will do you a great meal. Also, try the miso soup the hostel owner makes for brekkie! It's amazing

I genuinely can't think of anything. It's great. I'd advise you to be careful coming in late at night though: the building is like 150 years old and the floorboards creak, so be considerate of people sleeping :)

The breakfast is definitely a highlight with a lot of choices. The location is fantastic, right next to the east district but also for getting all around kyoto(you can walk to Sanjo station, which is a really convenient hub station in 12 minutes). Beds are comfy. Showers are big. The staff is always helpful and around almost all the time if you need them and of course Jiro is super cute. They had the 10th anniversary of the guesthouse and threw a party and invited everybody to drink and eat for free, really something else 👍.

The shower area could use a heater in winter. It's veryyyy cold when you go into the shower and exit. Note about the 4 bedroom mixed dormitory: This room is on the ground floor next to the common area which makes it very loud. Lights out is at 23:00 and breakfast starts at 07:00. So in the best case scenario you have an 8 hour sleeping window(usually less in reality). Unless you're a really deep sleeper it's impossible to sleep through the noise of the coffee machine in the morning right outside the door and people often stay up chatting in the common area as late as possible. So yeah it's very hard to get a good night's sleep in this room. I wish they would change lights out to 22:30, that would solve a lot of problems and let people get a better nights sleep.

Loved everything about my stay here! A traditional Townhouse, everything was very well maintained, the owner and staff were very helpful. They helped explain things to me in English, which helped as I know very little Japanese. A very homely feeling and met great people from all over the world. The provided breakfast was delicious. I felt very safe leaving my stuff out, and had lockers for safekeeping. A small outside garden which was great to sit and talk with others in the evenings.

Be prepared for the beds to be a bit small if you are 180cm+. I didn't mind personally, being 189cm, but if you are taller than that, it might become a little uncomfortable
