The hotel is about an 8 minute walk from the main station, although bear in mind the station is massive so it depends upon what train line you’d be getting off at. I was coming into Kyoto from Tokyo via the Shinkansen (bullet train) but on other days getting the train to Nara and to Osaka, the walk around the station was longer. it is also close to bus stops (buses are a lot easier to use in Kyoto than I expected as they are in English as well as Japanese and Google maps keeps you updated stop by stop) and I found using buses a lot easier to get around Kyoto. The area felt very safe (although everywhere in Japan feels safe compared to London!) I arrived a few hours before check in but was able to leave my luggage there and return later on. There’s a 7/11 enroute from the hotel to the station, so you can top up your WelcomeSuica card for travel on the buses and trains. The bedding was spotless, fresh towels were provided daily along with a sealed toothbrush (with toothpaste) and hairbrush. Downstairs there’s also extra amenities such as cotton buds, cotton pads and razors should you need them. The bathroom had one of the small Japanese bath/showers that I thought would be uncomfortable, but in fact it was really nice to be able to have a soak after long days of sight seeing. (I’m not sure anyone tall would be able to use it as a bath though, but still it’s a shower as well) There is also a cold drink machine in the lobby (¥170/£0.85p on average per drink) There’s large bottles of shampoo, conditioner, bath gel and hand gel suppled in the bathroom. During my 6 night stay I was asked what day I’d like my room cleaned and was able to choose a day. There’s coffee/tea available downstairs 24/7 and a breakfast of toast and jam/maramalade available every morning between 7-9am. There’s a lift to each floor. And a smoking area outside the hotel. My favourite vegan restaurant, Mercy, is about a 15min walk. I’d definitely stay again when next in Kyoto.

The hotel is very close to Kyoto Station, which turned out to be a fantastic choice. Since we arrived by train, it was easy to walk to the accommodation. Right next to the station is the bus terminal, allowing us to explore the city easily. There’s a bus stop right by the hotel that takes you to the city center and one of the main attractions. From the accommodation, it was also easy to visit famous sights in the surrounding towns. There are several shops nearby, and a shopping mall is just next door. We were able to rent two one-bedroom units for the price of one two-bedroom unit. The room is small but comfortable

Looking out the window, all you could see was the wall of the neighboring building just about 20 centimeters away.

The price was exceptional, making it a very affordable stay.

Instructions to hotel. There is another Hotel Excellence about 6 minutes away in the other direction. I went to the wrong one at first. Was very confusing. Staying near Kyoto station has its pros and cons. Most things I wanted to do in Kyoto were at least a 20-30 minutes away subway ride, which is fine, but Kyoto station is so huge that I lost my way every time I tried to get out of it. After 5 days, I finally nailed it, on my last day. The free breakfast was very minimal, but I opted to purchase food at the nearby supermarket and had healthy breakfasts in my room. You can ask for a kettle at the front desk for tea, or whatever.

Putting the hotel name in Google maps gives you two different options to pick for some reason. It’s about a 10 minute walk from Kyoto station, right next to the Aeon mall. It’s about a 5 minute walk from two separate bus stops in separate directions—both buses I used to get where I needed to go. Very convenient! The hotel did its job. I didn’t need somewhere fancy to stay, just a place to take a shower/bath, rest, and sleep. It’s small but it’s great on the budget. I paid less than $200 for 3 nights so it was definitely worth it.

It wasn’t clear how to close the window! I was trying to shove it close and had to call the front to ask how to close the window. There’s a little button. Also, they don’t take your luggage after you check out just fyi!

Great location, hotel was clean and perfect for a solo traveller. Staff are very friendly and it was a very comfortable stay. The only issue is availability for clothes washing. The hotel guides you to a small place about a 7 minute walk away but there were only 3 machines and very busy. I ended up walking to one that was 15 minutes away that had more, but I recommend doing it during the day or early evening (when people are getting their dinner!) you'll have to wait if you leave it too late.

Price-quality perfect match. No reason to look for any other place to stay around Kyoto station. The best option definitely. Yes, there is no breakfast but you have own bathroom and inroom toilet, great double bed and everyday change of towels. Believe me, there is no other similar options near Kyoto station with this low price (except of Hotel Excellence Kyoto Station Nishiguchi from the same owners).

Hotel is a 5 to 10 minute walk from the train station, one block from the Aeon mall [supermarket inside]. Google maps sometimes confuses this with similarly named hotels. Take the west exit from the train station, turn right, past the book store, watch across the road for the Aeon mall [set a half block back]. Cross the busy road and walk to the mall, turn right onto the lane just in front of the mall. The hotel entrance is at the end of the block on your left. Clean and comfortable.

Free breakfast was not worth the trouble; a slice of bread, coffee/tea and instant noodles. Better to borrow a kettle from the hotel and purchase breakfast items from the supermarket or shops in the station.

This property is very well located, a short walk from Kyoto station. A simple breakfast was included in the price of the accommodation. I asked for a room that was as quiet as possible and that's what I got. The room was excellent, very comfortable and with a good desk to work at. The bed was extremely comfortable. The bathroom was clean. Overall I was very pleased with my 4 night stay at the Hotel Excellence Kyoto Station which really did live up to its name.

Reasonable price and the room is quite big for one person. Amenities is available as well. Location is great. Very near to aeon mall and just 5-6 mins walk going to the station. Staff are approachable.

We stayed 3 nights but they did not be able to clean the room. They only replenish the towels and sleeping robes, and the garbage everyday. Eventhough we already put the "sign" outside the door to clean up the room, they still did not clean up. We wished they could change the pillow cover or even the blanket because we stayed there for 3 nights. We will understand if they don't clean it up if we stayed only for 2 nights but we stay more than that. Eve

The location is ideal for frequent visits, the hotel is close to the train station. Staff very friendly, happy to help. I was pleasantly surprised that breakfast was also offered in the price. Next to the hotel you can find a lot of restaurants, shops, there is also a laundromat and a shopping mall nearby. The room itself is clean, air-conditioned, fresh towels, a toothbrush and pyjamas were provided daily. I highly recommend this place for solo travellers!
