Very convenient location, right in the middle of the shopping district, and close to the Nishiki Market. Short walk to station, right by the buses to go to Arashiyama and other tourist locations. Staff spoke great English and helped us with the luggage service. The hotel is right next to round 1 arcade which has claw machines and other games. It's right by a lawson and has many good options nearby.
Nothing! It was great!

After reading some reviews I was worried but I really had such a great stay here! I have been living in Asia for 15 years so I think that also plays a role in my experience. I am used to small spaces. First of all the staff are INCREDIBLE! They are so helpful and accommodating. I loved all the amenities that were available downstairs and you can just take what you need. I requested a quiet room and the staff helped me secure it. The bed is massive and comfortable. I think my favorite thing about this hotel was the bath. For foreigners, it can look small but it's deep and in the winter, after so much walking it was like soaking in your own onsen!
The room would be small for me if I was traveling with someone. The laundry machines aren't that helpful... I feel like it takes twice as long to dry the clothes since it's a combo. I eventually took my clothes to a laundromat about 500m away (there's a great ramen place around the corner from it), and used the tuble dryer. It would have been cheaper to do my laundry there from the beginning.

great helpful staff - delivered on what I expected from TL, good sized room, considered in room amenities, and good buffet style breakfast, although (as commonly found in Japan hotels) hot food options were quite limited for vegetarians. Oh and an excellent location, quiet even with us being on the front of the hotel
cost of breakfast felt high - but we made multiple trips to the buffet so that provided overall value - step up/down into bathroom was a bit of a hazard but a common feature in Japanese hotels we found?

I don’t normally leave reviews, but felt like I had say some positive things about this place to counteract what you might read on google! The location was excellent, right in the middle of Kyoto and 5-10mins way from Gion. Also very close to the tube line, so easy to transfer to Kyoto station. The staff were helpful and the room was great value for money (clean, comfortable). Overall, fantastic stay.
Breakfast wasn’t amazing (poor selection and not that nice) - recommend going to the pasty & coffee shop next door for half the price.

I loved everything! The room was nice, the staff were lovely, it had an excellent little pasta restaurant attached which also did a great breakfast each day. They had a laundry near reception with a toilet and waiting area. It really was perfect. The hotel was almost next door to the market place and close to 3-4 stations so almost every line was easy to access without having to change trains.
My only really tiny thing was that my shower was a bit too high and couldn’t be adjusted to angle down so it basically sprayed towards my face unless I placed it on the lower part which then hit my legs. It was such a minor thing though as really everything was awesome.

Great clean room with all of the needed amenities. Although the room was small, it didn't bother me. The fridge was nice.
Don't pay the extra money for the "city view" room. Because it is next to the street, even with the window closed, it was still very noisy, and I couldn't open the blinds anyways because the people across the street in the building could easily see into our room.

Lovely staff. Room was clean and as per the photos. Bed was comfortable. You could adjust the aircon to your preference. The lobby is really pretty and welcoming. The location is absolutely the star of this hotel - right on the main street with shopping and restaurants, and walking distance to Gion, Yasaka Shrine, and Nishikii Markets. An easy walk to the train stations and a bus stop right outside to get anywhere else you need to go. Easy to get a taxi outside as well.
The window was right against the wall of another building which made the room quite dim (but electric lighting was sufficient). I couldn't figure out how to open the window to let some fresh air in. Occasionally the wifi dropped out or went slowly.

Good location being central to all sightseeing in Kyoto. Great to have the added service of holding your luggage pre check-in and post check-out. Rooms are basic but have everything you need. For washing up and sleeping, it’s a good enough hotel.
Seems to be always noisy. Either constant noise from within the hotel from neighbouring rooms (banging and noise), or screaming/yelling from the arcade complex next door throughout the evening and night. Even with the window shut it’s an ear plug type of place. Cleaning could be a little better as there were some things left behind from the previous guests.

The room was impeccably clean and perfectly suitable for a family with two young children. The decor was modern and pleasing. We thoroughly enjoyed the room, and the hotel's convenient location was within walking distance of two major train stations (Subway Tozai Line and Hankyu Kyoto Line). It is also situated in a prime tourist area, a short walk from Nishiki Market and Yasaka Shrine.
The pillows provided seemed rather small, perhaps child-sized. Room cleaning was only offered for stays exceeding four nights. A Kyoto tourism tax of 400 yen per night is payable upon check-in at the hotel reception.

I enjoyed my stay at Travelodge Kyoto Shijo Kawaramachi. The hotel location is great, a short walk from the Gion district. The personnel are polite, and all the amenities have been provided. Price/Quality ratio met my expectations. I marked comfort level as good due to the fact the room is a standard small one suitable for 1 or 2 travelers. Nice choice for those who want to save some money and have a pleasant stay in Kyoto. Breakfast was good as well!
None! Everything met my expectations.
