Our 2 night stay in Matsumoto was truly memorable, thanks to Kaneda and his wonderful team. From the moment we arrived, they went out of their way to make us feel welcome and well taken care of. Their warmth and attentiveness really stood out and made us feel right at home. The location is great, being right next to a supermarket and with plenty of food options nearby. We especially appreciated the complimentary shuttle to and from Matsumoto Station for check-in and check-out, which was a big help with our luggage. During our stay, we also used their transport services (at an additional charge), which made getting around even more convenient. CASTANA is nestled in a quiet, peaceful area with beautiful views of the Northern Japanese Alps. The room was comfortable, well-equipped, and functional. We also enjoyed spending time in the café area; it was a great space to relax, with tools and appliances to make your own drinks (as well as a proper kitchen, if you'd like to cook!). Having two toilets (and one shower) was also a big plus for us. Overall, our stay was easily one of the highlights of our entire trip. Kaneda and his team were always quick to answer any questions and happy to offer help. Their hospitality left a lasting impression--you can tell they care about their guests and their attention to detail made our stay feel special. Would absolutely recommend this place to anyone visiting Matsumoto!!

Absolutely loved this place! After two weeks in hotels, this cozy home was the perfect reset, felt instantly at home. It has a private bedroom, a spacious living room with a fully equipped kitchen, and a traditional Japanese-style relaxation room. Kaneda and the staff were outstanding—picked us up, dropped us off, and made sure we had everything we needed. Warm, helpful, and incredibly welcoming. Supermarket just steps away, coin laundry nearby—super convenient and just what we needed. Highly recommand this place !

Café and stay CASTANA was amazing! The house was extremely clean, the beds were comfortable to sleep in. Due to the fact the we were the only guests we had a good kitchen and dining table in the house that was available to us as well as a kitchen, that was nice and clean, And that gave us the opportunity the cook our own food.

Café and stay CASTANA was extremely clean, and had really nice staff. The staff spoke English very well. We had a very nice stay. The hotel provided toothbrushes and sponges, as well as shampoo and conditioner even body wash and a face cleanser was provided with in the stay at CASTANA.

This was my first time visiting Japan, and I chose Matsumoto as my travel destination. I must say, choosing Cafe & Stay Castana as my accommodation in Matsumoto was the best decision I made. The room was very clean and tidy. The dining area is beautifully designed, and you can enjoy a coffee while taking in the lovely scenery outside! Most importantly, the host was incredibly nice and friendly. We had a flat tire while traveling around Matsumoto. When Kaneda-san heard about our issue, he kindly offered to drive me to the car rental shop and even helped translate the problem to the staff there. Thanks to Kaneda-san’s help, we were able to get a new rental car without any trouble! I will definitely book Cafe & Stay Castana again if I have the fortune to visit Matsumoto in the future!

Really easy to find, car park just in front of the location, staff super helpful throughout our stay, kindly recommending activities for the days, and overall super welcoming and kind :) Supermarket just next to the hotel which is really handy. The centre/castle is around 40 minutes walk away, which was perfect to discover the city and remained a reasonable distance.

Staff was incredibly friendly. Appartement really spacious for Japanese standards, modern, clean, well equipped. Location not very near to train station, but easy (and affordable!) to catch a taxi at the train station. We came by car; free parking available. Quiet location, large supermarket nearby. Matsumoto is a great travellers' hub for day trips nearby.

The place is charming, cozy, pampering and well equipped. The hosts are very very nice. The location is a bit far from the center but the hosts drove us to the center as part of the service, so it makes up for the distance. And we got along very easily with a bus as well. We really enjoyed ourselves and highly recommend the place.

Spent only 1 night, spacious and clean room, pick up and transfer service, polite and punctual staff, giving ultimate service that we need during staying in matsumoto. All you can eat shabu2 is just across the property

Excellent accommodation, good size with separate lounge and kitchen area. Fully equipped and exceptionally clean . Owner and staff helpful . Large as have the whole cafe and bedroom . Private . Good base , supermarket next door and various eateries within walking distance .

Though we only had a short 1-night stay at Castana before embarking on a hike in Kamikochi, our experience was so pleasant we wanted to share. We had left in the morning from Nikko to arrive at Castana in time to check in, unfortunately, our train was delayed and we ended up arriving very late. Kaneda was very accommodating & even sent a driver to wait & pick us up at the train station. The driver was also extremely friendly & immediately put us in a better mood after a long day of traveling!
