Was initially hesitant to book because it looks quite remote and is a far walk to anywhere from Google map street view (they were mostly non-winter images). Marches House is located just next to Kokusai area where Evergreen ski school is. There is a path through its private carpark leading straight to the ski school meeting point, albeit it is quite a steep climb up. Appreciate the snacks (pudding, jelly, coffee, etc) in the lobby area, which helps give quick energy boost upon return from full day skiing. Love the amenities laid out in the lobby area, allowing us to have daily face mask treatments! We had the Japanese style room with en-suite bathroom which was comfortable, though I prefer to use the 24 hours public bath. Breakfast (additional cost) was nice, staff were friendly. There’s also a common room where we could rest before checking in / after checking out. Taxi from train station (and vice versa) were reimbursed/voucher provided. And not forgetting to mention Tony-san’s Japanese-style massage (separate cost) - should have booked more sessions to loosen my stiff back rather than only once on the last day. Overall, recommended and would stay here again for visits to Happo-One.

While it is near to Kokusai ski area (last hotel on that uphill stretch of road), it is relatively further to the restaurant area - nearest would be at Mominoki Hotel, which is 10-15 mins walk away (still ok, but limited food choices), or a 1+km walk to The Happo area (uphill walk back). Really depends on individual preferences, i.e., proximity to slopes vs eateriesm; we prioritize the former so ok with us; walk to eateries still manageable.

Marchen house exceeded my expectations. Definitely value for money. The place is clean, the staff is friendly and very helpful. The room was a good size for 2 pax. Although the facilities looks abit old but everything was working very well! My friend and I enjoyed the traditional Japanese public bath (which is open 24h) very much! Initially we were a little daunted by the long uphill walk from the gondola to the hotel. We soon realise that it is must more accessible to walk from kokusai slopes (from evergreen ski school) to the hotel! All in all, we had a very good stay and would highly recommend this accommodation for any guests looking for a value for money and convenient + comfortable accommodation during their ski/snowboard trip.

It was an all-round good value for money option with good access to nearby ski lift.

A shuttle bus from the train station would have been amazing. Even if it's a paid service. We walked all the way with suitcase and snowboard bag which was very difficult.

Close to Happo one ski resort, the amenities alone inside this property made it quite worth the money. It has just about everything you need and then some to have a pleasant stay. Fresh towels every day also!

In the snow season the walkway outside can be quite icy and slippery as it’s on a slight incline

The buffet breakfast was good. The location was good. Don't walk to the gondola. Use the Kokusai 1 chairlift. You can buy lift tickets there. The staff was very helpful.

There isn't an elevator. You need to carry your bags to your room. The main entrance is about a 100 feet from the parking lot where you are dropped off. Walking to town isn't too bad. However, walking back is uphill. All the restaurants were in town.

Far too uphill but worse part was the long slippery slope off the road to the hotel entrance. It’s dangerous when lugging luggage and when it’s icy.

The staff we incredibly attentive, warm and welcoming and we had everything we needed for our stay. Plus an excellent breakfast ready and waiting for us every morning!

The hotel is up a really big hill and the shuttle buses don’t run regularly.
