The front desk staff was very polite and friendly; very comfortable room for 3 people and extremely well located; we would stay there again if we come back to Nagano

It was not clear for us how often they changed sheets and towels; most hotels ask the guests to put the towels on the bathroom floor for example; however only on the 3rd day we found out that we had to put a note on the bed if we did NOT want the sheets changed… we didn’t know about that earlier and we felt sorry that apparently they have changed our sheets everyday! It was not their fault, it was our mistake as foreigners; perhaps the communication could be a bit more clear so others would not do that and the hotel could save more time and water when changing linens and towels. Also we found a bit inconvenient they only have one washing/drier machine for the guests and every wash/dry cycle lasted 2 hours - so we could not use it at all.

After several hotels with different self check-in systems, it was really nice to come to a proper hotel, with a proper front desk with very helpful staff that check you in in person. And a proper, spacious lobby where people can sit and wait. Good size room with enough space to move around even with 3 beds. We liked the view of the station with the mountains in the background. Great location. The hotel is connected to the train station (although difficult to find the inside route the first time). The adjacent department store has lots of lovely shops and a restaurant floor. We really appreciated the later check-out time of 12:00.

What I really loved about my stay at the Metropolitan Hotel in Nagano is the unbeatable location — it’s directly connected to the train station, which made traveling incredibly convenient. The hotel itself has a distinct charm, with a subtle 1980s aesthetic that I found nostalgic and stylish in a tasteful way. The main hall is impressively spacious and beautifully decorated, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere as soon as you walk in. I stayed in one of the simpler rooms, but it was comfortable, clean, and had everything I needed. Despite the modest category, the experience was relaxing and pleasant throughout. One highlight was definitely the sky bar — the panoramic view over the city was stunning, especially at night, and they served excellent whiskey. A perfect spot to unwind after a day of exploring.

That I had to leave after 3 nights

Room was spacious (double bed with sofa and desk). Breakfast was excellent, with fresh tempura being fried and lots of tasty Japanese dishes to try if you didn't want western. The apple juice was wonderful (a Nagano specialty). I loved the local greens (Nozawana). Being at one end of the Nagano Station was just so convenient for arrival and departure and meeting a tour. Our room was cleaned daily and amenities replenished without having to request a refill. The JR hotels are very comfortable and I look for them when booking!

No negatives to mention.

I had stayed at this hotel previously for short visit in January, and I will stay here again in a heartbeat in the future! For this stay, I made multiple reservations due to family emergency / visiting family member at the nearby hospital, not knowing how long my stay will be. I made 3 consecutive reservations with 3 different room types (by accident). Upon check in at the hotel, a front desk clark adjusted my reservation and allowed me to stay in the same room for the whole entire stay (Very thankful for Ms. Sato at the front desk, who made it happen for me.). Asides from the customer service, all the amenities offer at this hotel is very nice. I love how secure and efficient their coin operated laundry facilities and same day dry cleaning / laundry services.

None!

Great location accessible from Nagano station on level two without going outside. We had a twin room as this tends to give you more room in Japanese hotels but we needn’t have worried as the room was a generous size for Japan. We had a high floor room with a view towards the mountains and as requested they had put us at the end of a corridor to limit noise. All usual room facilities were available and we had a comfy chair and small table as well. The TV was a good size and had the advantage of Netflix’s available on the remote itself.

We had stayed in another Metropolitan hotel in Akita the night before which cost £10 less but was a much more modern version. To be fair all the same facilities etc were present in this one but decor etc were dated and there was a lack of extra touches like good lighting options and USB points.

This hotel was a very pleasant surprise. We booked it the day before our stay and we wish we had booked more nights here. The room was very spacious, super comfy beds and lots of storage. Our baby could play on the floor safely. The shower had a very good water pressure. Our breakfast buffet was great, as was the service. They looked after our luggage before check-in and once we checked out too. There's a direct entrance to the hotel from the train station through the department store.

The hotel is located right next to the train station, but finding the entrance through the department store was a bit confusing. Perhaps more signage would be good. But once you find it the first time, you're fine!

Loves friendly staff in all areas of the hotel. Reception staff always keen to fill your needs. Room was plentiful in size, was great that I could watch Netflix in the evenings on the TV. Location is perfect and attached to the station and bus station, handy for the day trip to snow monkeys. We ate in restaurant a few times which was good. They have a fabulous house white wine so definitely try that! Overall I have stayed in lots of hotels in Japan and this was a lovely experience.

The hotel is located adjacent to the station and is nice and comfortable. The room was clean and bigger than the average room in Japan with a couch and a small table. Breakfast is served in the lobby and consists of a variety of local dishes and western foods, and though we don't eat meat, we could find many options to suit our needs. There are many restaurants and shops in the vicinity of the hotel.

Nothing, everything was great

Really good place to stay. Location is very handy with all types of transport at your feet. Staying with the Location, it's right in the heart of Nagano, so Malls, Fast Food, Bars and Restaurants are literally with in walking distance from the hotel and a great range of styles on offer. Room sizes are a lot bigger then Tokyo.

Nothing to much of an issue. Just being fussy, but maybe more Western options for breakfast. But that's no deal breaker.
