Kaiseki dinner was incredible - not the drawn out experience you might get at a restaurant, but understandable in the context of a hotel dinner. Food was local and prepared impeccably. There was a LOT of it - I was beyond full by the end of it. Contrast to breakfast, which was much lighter. Room was amazing - the view was just incredible since you're right on the beach; sunrise was breathtaking. Gorgeous tatami room and great attention to details; when you come back to your room after breakfast the futon is put away in the closet and the table is moved to the middle of the room and set with a fresh pitcher of cold water; when you return in the evening the futon is back with fresh sheets. Bath in the room was civilized with a separate small toilet room; the tub itself was too small for me (traditional Japanese ofuro) but the shower was great and of course the hotel has an onsen on the roof. Small tattoos ok if they're easily covered which I did. Rooftop onsen is open late into the night which was a nice touch. Gift shop is great too!

Honestly I would have preferred a bit lighter dinner and more of a buffet style breakfast, or at least a few more hearty options for breakfast.

EXCEPTIONAL DINING. The meal prepared by the chef Kitano Osamu was exceptional. From the outside, it looks like a standard Kaiseki meal but details were all there. The sashimi was really good including hotate. Chawanmushi was just the right temperature. Hanasaki crab with miso flavoured broth was just perfect. Tempura was perfect. Clear soup was just right and Chirimen gohan was the right amount. The second night's meal including sukiyaki, abalone and toriten were also outstanding. I couldn't ask for a better Kaiseki. The meal service was also perfect. FRONT STAFF were great. The evening piano & flute mini concert was very pleasant. AMAZING VIEW (Oceanside).

1. The room was very spacious for three people. 2. The view from our room was gorgeous and you can watch the sunrise if you wake up early enough. 3. The breakfast provided was fabulous. It was a traditional Japanese style one and the food provided was different day by day. Hence, you should not feel bored with the food! 4. There are two public onsen baths in the hotel, and one is indoor and the other one is outdoor. The opening hours for both onsen baths are quite long so you shouldn't need to worry about if you have to rush back to the hotel after a full day visit around the city.

1. The hotel is a bit far away from Beppu train station. You have to walk around 12-15 minutes if you carry your luggage / suitacase to reach the hotel. 2. As the hotel is located near the seaside, there were quite a lot of mosquitoes in our room. Fortunately enough, the mosquitoes seemed not to bite people.

We booked rooms with half-board which included the traditional Japanese breakfast and dinner. The tatami rooms were very spacious with a sea view (at the waterfront). The food was plenty and tasty. As we booked for 2 nights with half-board, they made sure to offer different menues over the 2 days (9-course dinner). There were an indoor and roof-top/outdoor common onsen-baths with sufficient space for relaxing. The hotel personnel was very friendly.

The hotel interior and amenities are somehow outdated, although clean. This is a general trend among onsen-hotels in Japan as many onsen resorts are fighting for survival (no longer in trend among the younger Japanese generation). Beppu use to be a prime onsen town, but looks somewhat deserted nowadays with closed hotels, restaurants and bars.

the staff are al very friendly and considerate. we checked in late the first night so would have missed our dinner. but they let us know they'd wait for us which was comforting. the onsen on the rooftop was lovely with great seaview. Our room with the sea view was beautiful.

iI prefer to have the yukatas kept in our room and towels in onsen so we didn't have to bring along from our room. but then perhaps the arrangements are due to environmental considerations. they just vary from different hotels, i suppose.

Hotel located by the sea front giving us very nice ocean view, unique traditional Japanese style room, very delicious Japanese breakfast and dinner with menu changing every day making our stay enjoyable and memorable

It could be nice if hotel provides/sells a kind of late night snacks or noodle soup and drink menu including beer.

The view from the room and all the meals we had were wonderful. The facility is a bit old but kept clean. The room was spacious and we would have liked it more if the futon mats were thicker. Roten-buro was nice.

The toilet in the room was too small. The bathtub didn't not seem to have been used so long that it started to smell badly in the room. It would be helpful to flush water once in a while to prevent it.

onsen was excellent, beautiful view and very relaxing - loved how it was open for both an early morning bath and late evening, too! Food was excellent - loved the variety (didn’t need to add the western dishes as the traditional Japanese selection was plenty!)

Noticed that there were some foreigners that didn’t know how to use onsen or were loud in the onsen.

This is a great location by the sea. We had a corner room, so we had a great view from two sides and managed to check in as the sun was setting. The room had its own bathroom, but of course, we used the onsen. Breakfast was amazing, a full traditional Japanese breakfast.

We couldn't book the room with dinner but we thought we could just go into the restaurant to eat. However, when we asked at reception, they were fully booked. However, they did recommend a good tempura restaurant only a few minutes walk away.

Lots of free parking onsite and near to two malls and donki. Breakfast was traditional Japanese style. Water filter provided in the room. Spacious futon. Choices of onsen: Indoor and Outdoor, and the one I booked had an onsen in the room

No washing machine available. Water has sulphuric smell and onsen in the room was too hot for dipping.
