We really enjoyed the in-room onsen — the main reason we chose this hotel. Even though the view from the onsen was partially obstructed (stated upfront), it was still pretty lovely. Room was comfortable and spacious enough for our family of 3.

It would have been great if there were power outlets or USB charging ports near the beds. We had to charge our devices using the outlets near the ground just outside the bathroom and at the TV console. (That said, we recognise that the hotel was built and first opened in an era when devices that needed charging were non-existent!)

The hotel needs to arrange more shuttles connecting the hotel and JR station. After checking out at 11, there were no seats available on 11 o’clock shuttle. We were not informed that we need to reserve shuttle since lots of people are checking out at the same time. So we had to call taxi. Also we were asked way too many questions upon arrival. For tired tourists it’s hard to decide at what time they want breakfast for 3 days ahead. Also it was unusual for us to pay for cleaning services for the first day of staying. The other interesting thing was bar. It opens late, I believe around 7 pm. Unfortunately, you can’t just order one drink, you have to sign up for “all you can drink in 90 minutes” for I believe 3,000 Japanese yen.

Amazing hotel with an old world charm, perched atop a cliff and overlooking the sea. The views from this hotel is truly unrivalled. The staff are all helpful and friendly, and clearly dedicated to ensuring we had an exceptional stay. Breakfast was a sumptuous feast every day, and they made sure that we received a different meal on the 2 mornings we were there. The quality of the food was excellent too. In the lobby, there's also a cute DIY snack counter and drinks dispenser, both of which offered delicious chips and apple water, among others. We booked the room with a private onsen - best decision made! Our room and onsen both had superb views of the mountains and sea. It was an incredible stay.

The hotel is a 15min drive away from the city centre, so it's a little inaccessible. But there is an hourly hotel shuttle that you takes you to & from Otaru city until 7pm. The staff also asked us to pre-book the shuttle service in advance, during check in, so there was no trouble at all.

Beautiful location although far from centre of Otaru (in winter it would be almost impossible to walk up to the cliffside location of hotel unless you are super fit and you have next to nothing luggage). They offer shuttle pick up and drop off from Otaru station as long as booked in advance so it wasnt a big issue for us. the views are SO SO GOOD. The private onsen is great especially as me and my fiance have tattoos. Love the view of the ocean from our room and onsen. Generous amenities and overall a lovely stay. Love that our room is so big, we can literally exercise together. Happy to have a little lounge area for chilling. The restaurant serves lovely food and even gave me complimentary birthday cake slice 🙏🏻

I booked for private bath. This is public-bath-class. It is not tab water you turn on and off. It flows constantly. And also it is so-called “outside-like” bath which is actually inside so I was worried about the experience not like the actual outside bath, but it was better! In winter it is so cold so you cannot enter the bath outside or your face will freeze. In this facility you can open the window to get some wind and snow, and still the warm air is inside so not freezing-cold. Also you can kind-of cool the water not to be hot by having some outside air. My last night was snow-storm and it was quite exciting that gust comes in to the vent and make some noise in the toilet (not actual wind but noise). Restaurant was also perfect. I would love to visit with my loved ones!

Location is too far away. They provide rides as far as you want, but it is on the hill so virtually it is so hard you to climb from the bus stop or the aquarium. But because of this location, you can enjoy the view. Also I’d love if you can state how frequent the while bath water will be changed. In believe to be every guest but better to notify clearly.

I got an ocean front view and it was a dream come true. I spent about three hours a day in the hot bath, feeling the cold air and occasional snowflake drifting in from the window and drinking in the incredible views. I also contacted the hotel via messaging on booking.com before my trip to enquire about the meals (as I'm vegetarian), book shuttles into and from Otaru Station and book a taxi, and that was all sorted out for me. Also, when I couldn't finish my meal because I was so full one night, they brought my dessert up to my room an hour later for me. They even packed me a take away breakfast because I had to leave before 7am on my checkout day. The room itself was also gorgeous and had modern conveniences like an outlet near the bed and a large TV with streaming services. I cannot recommend this place highly enough and hope to be back soon.

It would have been great to be able to open the window in the bedroom, but I understand that this is a safety issue.

- best location to see the coast of Shukutsu. Also within walking distance to the Otaru Aquarium and a kids playground. - Stayed here for a night back in 2008 and the quality remain top notch after 16 years. Room is nicely furnished with full amenities set. - Very nice view from room. Within 3-minute walking distance to the viewing deck of the coast. - in room onsen bath is very nice. - Nice breakfast offering. - Free parking right outside the hotel entrance. - kids friendly with kids amenities and kids meal.

- The building does look a bit dated. - Some parts of the room a bit dusty. - No laundry machines at the hotel.

The spa bath in the room can do with a slight refurbishment

We liked the quiet location and the free shuttle bus that is provided in the morning and afternoon. This allows a nice peaceful environment to relax as well as convenience of having transport to JR Otaru station, from where we could easily travel to the places we needed or wanted to go.

This is not a complaint as it is a common matter but the English proficiency of most of the staff is significantly less than what you experience in other major cities like Tokyo and Osaka. Nevertheless, staff put is effort to communicate and was very helpful with some of our requests.

The breakfast in the morning was excellent! This was one of our favorite meals from our entire trip in Hokkaido. We also did dinner one of the nights and enjoyed it with some lovely local wine. The room had a great view from both the bedroom and the hot tub. We were very grateful for the shuttle to and from the hotel to Otaru Station since you do need some way to get into town. We let the hotel know in advance when we wanted to be picked up/dropped off. The shuttle is clearly labeled with the hotel name, was always a little early, and had our name listed to ensure they picked up all the guests. We were glad to have the convenience of some vending machines with drinks, beer/sake, and snack/ramen. Thanks so much for a wonderful time!
