I really liked the lady who greeted us upon arrival—she was very kind and helpful. The man at the front gate was also wonderful; he voluntarily offered to take our photos and did so with great care, ensuring every shot looked great. The hotel's antique decor perfectly complements Otaru's charming atmosphere. The location is excellent, as it's right by the beautiful Otaru Canal, where we had planned to take a walk and capture some photos.

The room for four people was a bit small, but it was a good option for those on a budget.

I particularly loved the hotel's stunning location right on the Otaru Canal. The views from the room and the restaurant were absolutely picturesque. The hotel's design and decor had a charming, slightly European feel that perfectly complemented the atmosphere of Otaru. The breakfast buffet was also a highlight, offering a delicious spread of both Japanese and Western options, with fresh seafood being a notable feature. Furthermore, the staff were incredibly polite, attentive, and made us feel very welcome.

While the location was a major plus, it also meant that it could get quite busy with tourists around the hotel, especially during peak hours. This wasn't a fault of the hotel itself, but something to be aware of.

The breakfast buffet at Hotel Nord Otaru was fantastic, offering a great variety of fresh and delicious options. The room offered a beautiful view of the Otaru Canal, making the stay even more special. Waking up to the scenic waterfront added to the relaxing and enjoyable experience. The staff were incredibly helpful, assisting us in calling a taxi at 5 AM without any hassle. Their excellent service made our early departure smooth.

I’m satisfied with the hotel

It was great in terms of location as Otaru Canal is right in-front of you. But you got to work around 15 minutes to the Music Box streets which is still acceptable. Car park there is really good as it’s park under hotel property. They do provide us helpful information of how to take ski bus to Kiroro Peak Club Med too.

But in terms of amenities such as not provide bath boom for free is such a shame in this price range. Breakfast should be included as well with the price range too.

It's a lovely old hotel in a great location. We walked with our suitcases from the train station which was downhill, a little tricky in the snow, but manageable, about 15-20 minute walk. We chose to book a taxi back to the station because it was uphill - about $8 AUD, so worth it! The room was large, but everything is a bit tired. Great view out over the canal, and also great view at breakfast. Will loved Otaru, but very touristy!

Unfortunately, the smoking room is close to the foyer, so the whole foyer area and some parts of the hotel smelled of cigarette smoke. I found this extremely unpleasant and would highly recommend banning smoking!

Super strategic, the canal really in front of our window room. 10-15 minutes to the busy touristic area. Personally i really like the bathroom, it was super satisfying. They even provide us with little chair and big plastic bowl. After we leave the bathroom we feel very “clean” , they also provide us with some hair spa treatment and it smells sooo good. They also provide parking area for us. Very recommended if you want to explore area in Otaru. Otaru aquarium it was also incredible, and really surprisingly beautiful.

Otaru canal is just in front of the hotel, very easy to access. Walking distance to shopping area and JR station. Hotel parking is multi storey automatic mechanical car park, very amazing!

If want to drive the car, need the in-charge staff to call out the car, take some time. Room quite small for 4 person, and come with centralized air conditioning system, cannot manually adjust the temperature. Coins Washing Machine only 2, always occupied.

An excellent location to enjoy the historic canal area of Otaru, our room overlooking the canal and old renovated warehouse. Although a little dated the hotel has a wonderful traditional feeling, is extremely clean and the staff are most friendly and helpful. A very good breakfast. Walking distance to JR Station.

The hotel is pretty close to the Otaru cannel and other historic sites. The standard twin room is spacious and big enough for us to unpack our luggages. It has an independent wash basin area which is separate from the bathroom, which is a wonderful spot. The staff is friendly and helpful. The front desk manager even made a phone call for me to reserve for a sea urchin meal by the sea!

The beds are a bit too soft to me.

This is located by Otaru canal and accessible to train station and Sankaku market and other main shopping areas. It has great views and breakfast was great value. All staff are friendly and have great manners.

I’m not sure because of old hotel, I guess bathroom fan isn’t strong enough , so when I first opened bathroom, I smelled a bit moldy.
