Raquel was an amazing host. She gave me a map of Bacalar, explained where we were in relation to the attractions, offered suggestions for activities, and created a warm and friendly environment for her guests. She is even hosting a special evening for her guests tonight (Dec. 24th) but, unfortunately, I missed it because I went onto my next destination. Raquel's staff is also friendly, and they prepared delicious breakfasts. The room was great. The shower had excellent water pressure and hot water at all times of day. The room had AC, a ceiling fan and window, so lots of options for keeping cool - and I especially loved the garden. I highly recommend staying with Raquel at el Gran Jaguar Hotel.

The beautiful garden, Rachel and the other friendly hosts, clean facilities, the dog, cat and turtles. Lots of helpful information given, with maps and recommendations.

Hotel is wonderful, but a couple of small things: - I stayed in a downstairs room near to the kitchen and there was noise every night from guests coming home between 11pm-12am, talking on phones, banging doors etc. - while I understand tipping is part of the culture in Mexico and the United States, cleaning should be factored into cost of the room. The sign in the room inviting guests to tip cleaning staff made me worry if they were being paid adequately, and it also annoying to always have to find change to tip on a daily basis.

Rachel was an excellent host. She told us a lot about Bacalar, gave us a map, and even reserved a place for the boat trip. Reserved car park spaces in front. Spacious room with fan and A/C. Good breakfast with fruits, cereal, toasts, and eggs of our choice with a strong coffee. The breakfast setting was excellent facing a beautiful back garden. Free purified water was available all the time. We stayed on Xmas eve and they organised a party with food, fruit punch and alcohol. It was an amazing evening.

The location wasn't great, but it was not too bad. 10 to 15 minutes walk to the centre. I would have liked a mini fridge in our room.

Gran Jaguar hotel surpassed all my expectations. Rachel is a wonderful and kind person who really helped me feel at home. I loved chatting with her in my broken Spanish, and she gave me really good information and recommendations with a nice map. She helped me make the most out of my stay in this truly magical town. The place was clean, and the breakfast was really good with fresh fruits, cereals and bacon and eggs. What more could you wish for? Turtles to watch while enjoying your breakfast? Got those as well! If I ever make it back to this lovely town, my stay will for sure be at the Gran Jaguar hotel.

Not a con because I knew this before I booked, but is is a slight walk to the centre. But it's a nice walk, and the advantage is it's really close to the bus station. Also, Rachel can arrange a taxi for you for very decent prices.

We had an excellent stay! Although check-in was until 10 PM, we arrived very late at around 3 AM due to missing our bus because of traffic. The owner graciously woke up and welcomed us warmly, which we truly appreciated. The room was cozy and comfortable. Breakfast was satisfying, especially the delicious eggs. The property also features a beautiful garden with turtles wandering around, adding a unique and charming touch to the experience. Highly recommended!

This place is a GEM! Location is good, still walking distance to the town. The hotel is clean and comfortable, so is the room. There is a nice yard and some turtles who live there as well. The AC is effective, the wifi works well. The breakfast is really good for the price. But the best thing is the staff and the host, Rachel! They are so friendly, helpful and attentive. There is always fresh water available for the guests and ice cubes in the fridge. Rachel gives an explanation of Bacalar and the map as you arrive, and arranges any tour for you if you just ask. She is always there also to call you a taxi or help you with anything you might need. She is amazing! We had a lovely stay, would 100% recommend this place. Thank you Rachel and res of the staff for a lovely stay!

Can't think of anything we didn't like.

Amazing host, Rachel, who is extremely welcoming, accommodating and will do anything to help her guests, including making detailed recommendations, booking activities and taxis and organizing taxis. She’s just the best there is. Hotel has a lovely garden and offers a good breakfast with the room. There’s also a fridge and main kitchen for guest use. The rooms are clean and the beds and pillows are very comfortable. A quiet location.

A 10–15 minute walk to the main centre although this does make it much quieter than centrally located hotels.

first and foremost, the bed was one of the most comfortable i have ever slept in. it was too comfortable. i didnt want to get out of it. i am going back just to sleep in that bed again. damn. i really miss that bed. :) the rest of the hotel was fantastic as well. we didnt make breakfast (it was the bed's fault, i tell ya!) but im sure it was great. the hotel is super clean and quiet. the garden was peaceful and romantic. and they even have pet turtles. the lovely women that worked there made us feel like we were visiting family at their house. what a great place. did i mention the bed was AMAZING. the hotel is in a good, safe, location. (all of bacalar is safe actually - what a beautiful place). there is limited parking spaces, but the street parking did not seem to be a problem. we left the car at the hotel and walked everywhere which was great. it was a short 8 minutes stroll to town center, where all the action is, and about an 11 minute saunter to the lagoon where the relaxing is. this is a wonderful place and im definitely going to have to go back so i can sleep in that bed again.

The host is extremely friendly and helpful, she was well-prepared by our arrival with a map even, to explain us what is where located. And the staff is super friendly. The location was great, just 10-15 min walk from the main square.

A lot of street dogs running around in Bacalar. But some of them are really cute :)

Clean and comfortable room, amazing staff. Unfortunately I found the place only at my last night in Bacalar (moved from another place) I had an early bus to take, couldn't make it for breakfast so Rackel offered they would leave me a lunch box in the morning. Can't tell you how nice it is leaving early with a bag of a nice prepared sandwich and fruits for the way with my name on it ❤️
