Kapitein Anna is a fantastic and unique accommodation option in Amsterdam – especially considering how difficult it can be to find reasonably priced rooms in the city (at least during my stay in late April/early May). The ship has a wonderful, authentic charm, with a cozy lounge and a beautiful deck where you can enjoy breakfast or relax in the evening with a beer or two. The cabins are small but comfortable for sleeping – not really designed for hanging out during the day – and while ours didn’t have a wardrobe, there were three hooks and lots of space to store suitcases under the bed. If the weather isn’t great, the spacious and atmospheric lounge is a perfect place to unwind. Although the ship can hold up to 300 people, it accommodates only around 20 overnight guests, which adds to the relaxed and intimate vibe. Both the owner and Captain Antony were warm and welcoming, and I felt very well taken care of. I definitely recommend booking the breakfast – it was excellent! While no other meals are served onboard, tea and coffee are always available. The ship is spotless and extremely well-maintained. The free ferry to the central train station runs smoothly every 15 minutes, and the ride takes just as long. Absolutely recommended – a memorable and charming stay!
The only thing to keep in mind – as mentioned above – is that the cabin is relatively small and the windows don’t open, so you rely on the air conditioning. But hey, it is a ship, after all :)

From the second we stepped on to the boat, greeted with a friendly smile, from the second we stepped off, we had the best time. To reach the boat, its a short (10 mins) trip on a free ferry from the Central Main Station, which run every 30 minutes. I was slightly apprehensive thinking that I'd booked to stay on a boat in Amsterdam but I am so pleased I did, it was such an experience. The rooms were immaculate, small but perfect and had everything I needed i.e. hairdryer and soft towels. The beds were comfortable and sound proofing was good. Every inch of the boat was clean and felt fresh. There was tea and coffee available day and night and the 'main man' Richard couldn't have been more accommodating and helpful. Personally, I haven't got anything negative to say about this accommodation and I would definitely book this again.
Nothing, loved it all.

We chose this place for the novelty of staying on a boat, and it lived up to those expectations. Located in an easily accessible suburb across the bay from Amsterdam Central, this hotel is easily accessible by a free ferry that operates every 15-30 minutes, time of day depending. It was meticulously clean, and the breakfast was delicious. The 24/7 access to coffee and tea facilities was also greatly appreciated.
Staying on a boat means there are some compromises, and one of them is sound. The walls are paper thin, which means you hear everything and if you are a light sleeper, it can mean a restless night. The rooms would also do well to include a full length or more accessible mirror on the bathroom door.

It was a delight to stay on this historic steam ship which built in 1911 . It has many original features and panoramic views of the river IJ. Although it is on the north side of the river there are free direct ferries every 15 minutes from the nearby pier to the central station, which take 15 minutes and bring you right into the centre of town. You can have a nice breakfast onboard and there are restaurants on the waterfront for other meals ( if you didn’t eat in the centre of town). Most importantly the staff are excellent , (particular thanks to Anthony and Richard who took a lot of trouble to make my stay as good as possible.). Of course this cannot be compared to a standard hotel - the rooms are ships’ cabins and are small but clean and comfortable. Kapitein Anna provides a unique and charming way to visit Amsterdam and I look forward to staying there again.
Nothing- I was really pleased with the whole experience.

The room was extremely clean and a cosy size. The accommodation had been well-maintained throughout - you could tell that this old ship had been loved and cared for over the years. Staying there was a real experience and completely different to anywhere else I have ever stayed! The beds were comfortable and the facilities in the room (such as the modern shower) surprised us with how good they were given the age of the boat. Guests could help themselves to a coffee machine in the main area which was a nice touch. I imagine the top deck is particularly lovely in the summer months. The location worked well for us. It is in a quieter area, away from the hustle and bustle of the city, but it still has great local bakeries, a small supermarket and a creative arts scene. Having to catch a (free) ferry to reach the accommodation added to the overall experience.
Nothing! It was fantastic as a budget-friendly option. The rooms don't have all of the flash, luxury modcons and lots of excess space which one may find in a more modern accommodation - but that's because it is a vintage paddle steamer! It suited our needs on a short city break perfectly.

We were met by Anthony who guided us around the boat explaining amenities, the history of the boat and recommendations in the area. Anthony is a credit to Kapitein Anna. My favourite part was the breakfast, we had scrambled eggs served hot in little ceramic dishes. The boat was sleepy at this time of the year but we enjoyed the eeriness of it, the sea mist was haunting. We loved waking up to the sea.
I genuinely didn't dislike one thing. The overall experience was just to our taste! I would say that the boat gently sways, so if you are a nauseous person be aware of this.

We loved Kapitein Anna! It was beautiful and well kept and quite comfortable for a boat. The layout of the bathroom was efficient, the beds were comfortable and the sheets were soft. The location was so convenient: we had been traveling for a while and had a lot of luggage and I think that the location (a ferry right across from the main train station) was more convenient than most locations because there was very little schlepping required. You cross a street, get on the ferry, and the hotel is a quick walk from the ferry dock on the other side. Bonus: you can see the hotel from the ferry so it’s just that much easier for the weary traveler to find! The staff is friendly and the breakfast was very good. We hope to stay again soon.
Nothing!

This was such a fun place to stay! The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, and check-in was super easy. The free breakfast was delicious and had a wide variety of food. One of the proprietors even offered each day to make us eggs, any style. The location was easier to get to than I expected. There's a free ferry that runs very frequently from just outside the central station; it took about 10 minutes. Near the boat are several restaurants, or you can take the ferry to Centraal and find any number of places to eat nearby. The rooms are small since it's a boat, but the beds were comfortable, and each room had its own bathroom. When we weren't sleeping, we spent our time there either on the main level or the upper level; there is plenty of seating, and the upper level has a very nice view of the harbor.
It would have been useful to have more electrical outlets.

A very comfortable unique stay on a beautiful boat. Cabin very comfortable and much bigger than expected. Delicious breakfast with views over the harbour. Hosts very friendly and helpful. The area around the hotel is interesting: huge graffiti art gallery and cool restaurants such as Pllek. Very handy for the flea market too. Free ferries to central station and Jordaan are frequent and really easy to use as are nearby bus services. A great experience.

Very nice establishment. The location is awesome, you can get there with the free ferry behind the Amsterdam Central Station. The ferries drive weekdays until 1:45 am and weekends till 3:15 am The staff is very friendly, you can get coffee and tea for free and the boat bar is open till 10 pm. The rooms are really nice and cozy and lack nothing. All necceseray commodities were in the room. You even get free water bottles in your room which is a nice touch. There are only single beds but if you ask the hotel beforehand you can get a room where you can push the beds together. The beds are very comfortable and the ship motions rocked me to a great night's sleep. The price is one of the cheapest for a hotel in Amsterdam and the establishment is just awesome. 10/10 I recommend Kaptein Anna and would visit it again. I already miss sleeping on this cozy boat.
The only “negative thing” about our room was, if you push the beds together, there's a little gap between them, which wasn't a huge issue.
