The unit and grounds are beautiful. The hot tob and sauna are divine. View is gorgeous. the location is convenient to Franz Josef. The cabin is filled with arty, beautiful touches -the bathroom is spectacular and each cabin has unique, handcrafted windows. The kitchen was well-stocked and the tea selection was excellent.

It was difficult to get into our unit because the doorknob was defective. The host said he would fix it the next day, but did not. The stairs to the second floor are very steep and are difficult to negotiate in the middle of the night, even worse with a suitcase. There were no closets or dressers and no space in the tiny bedroom for suitcases. We used the second bedroom for our clothing and luggage, but that wouldn't work if traveling with kids.

Very peaceful and tasteful. The cabin was beautifully constructed and finished. We loved the hot tub. Altogether a great setting and a good stop on our road trip.

It wasn’t actually “2 bedrooms” - one of the rooms was open to the landing and the other had a gap above the door that should have been glazed for sound privacy. There wasn’t any mood lighting for evening in the lounge area, and the hosts didn’t provide milk for tea/coffee which meant we had to go without as we arrived from the north and after the shops in Franz Josef had closed in any case. Small details which would have made our stay 100%

We really enjoyed our stay at Kahere Retreat. Nestled in the serene landscapes of Franz Josef, this retreat offers a perfect blend of comfort and uniqueness. The chalet we stayed in was cozy and we enjoyed the one-of-a-kind experience. One of the standout features was the sauna which was really nice to come back to after hiking. It was also really nice to have access to a stocked kitchen of stainless steel pots and pans so that we could cook breakfast.

There are a few improvements that could enhance the overall experience: Wood-Fired Hot Tub: A wood-fired hot tub would add a rustic and authentic touch, aligning beautifully with the retreat’s natural setting. The current spa, while enjoyable, didn’t heat up as much as expected, making a wood-fired option a great alternative. Given the cost of the stay it would be nice to have this as an option to book rather than the Waiho Hot Tubs. Self-Operated Sauna: Allow guests to turn on the sauna or spa themselves, rather than needing to message for assistance, would offer greater flexibility. Fire Pit: Adding a fire pit would elevate the nighttime experience. As mentioned by others it would be helpful to reduce the size of the key chain and refresh some of the pillows.

It’s a small but very cozy quiet cottage style house. Big grass and hydrangeas were at the front of the house. Hot tub and sauna were in 3 minutes away. Owner’s dog Frankie was super friendly and loved came over to say hi and byes or just wanted to a cuddle and maybe some treats!!

It maybe a good idea to pack the mosquito spray with you because quite a lot of mosquito during the night. And we forgot to bring ours so the night got very annoying with hunting the mosquitoes… if owners can prepare something like Mosquito-repellent coils that would help.

Oh my goodness, what a beautiful place. The outdoor heated area was a bonus, and stepping inside, it was so pretty. Stained glass in most windows, a pretty view from every windows, and the loft bedroom so cosy. The view when we woke up, of snow capped mountains took my breath away. Only slight criticism is I would love a pot belly wood heater, but environmentally they are not very good We hope to come back

Steps were a little tricky and I do love a pot belly fire but do I understand why you don't have them, not very environmentally friendly

This was one of my favorite places we stayed on our road trip - such a lovely relaxing few days and a really special memory of our time in Franz Josef. Loved the chalet and all of its charm, hearing the birds in the bush, and the hot tub and sauna are an absolute bonus. The chalets are super well designed - and you can use the covered outdoor space even if it is raining. Very warm and cozy even in the middle of winter. I could have stayed much longer!

My very tall son kept hitting his head in the bedroom - something to be aware of if you are travelling with tall people!

Was a beautiful little cabin with nature surrounding! Was warm during our winter visit. We loved the spa pool that was available for guests to use. We could sit in warm water, as the sun went down, with snowy-capped peaks in the background. Stunning and relaxing!

There were two bedrooms upstairs. A master room and a room with two single beds. As people moved around the chalet, it was quite noisy. Nothing we couldn;t cope with though.

We loved the location and the property was gorgeous. The loft was cute, kitchen well equipped, shower was great and different. Oh and we loved the family dog when he'd come around to visit.

We really struggled with the locks on both doors. We could not unlock the balcony door at all so we didn't use it which was a shame. The front door lock was also finicky and would take us 5 minutes to lock/unlock.. a bit frustrating.

Hot tub and sauna, faaaantastic.!!!!!!! Beautiful view from the window on a green open space and en enchanting view on a rainforest tree from the bedroom. I also loved the oven where I could reheat our stale bread. Great stay overall.

Stairs were a bit ricky for two 70+ y olds, the loft bedrooms were also not so great for a tall person who is not used to have low ceilings. The cottage is rustic all in wood which I loved being a nature person but Hubby, a city person did not appreciate it so much.

Cute stand alone cabin. Short drive to town. Some nice views of the mountains. We enjoyed the hot tub

The bedrooms are upstairs & the bathroom downstairs. The steps are very steep & it wasn't fun going up & down them in the middle of the night to use the toilet. The tiles in the bathroom are freezing underfoot, underfloor heating would have been great. There was also no hooks for hanging jackets inside which would have been handy for all our wet jackets. There was also no tv & no internal dining area.
