Friendly check in and shown to our room. Large room with separate lounge area and large bathroom with bath and walk in shower. Lovely views over the swimming pool. Lovely breakfast - great selection of fresh fruit and a cooked option plus cereals and pastries. We had the 5 course dinner and it was gorgeous - highly recommended. All staff were very friendly and polite.

Some drinking water and fresh milk for tea/coffee would have been welcome. Some old cobwebs very clear on the bathroom sash window and a pile of dead flies on the window shelf going down the stairs - just needs a bit more attention to detail - or maybe more staff.

This is a wonderful place to stay. It has a historic, grand feel and beautiful gardens. Our room was really comfortable and had everything we needed, lovely linen and nice toiletries. We had the 5 course set menu for dinner in the restaurant which was very high quality and excellent value for money. Breakfast was included and there were lots of lovely options. Service was friendly, professional and very welcoming. We also had great massages.

I have given the highest score. However it is clear Mangapapa is being run on a shoestring. The staff who are present are exemplary. But it is abundantly clear they are short-staffed, and, as a result, being taken advantage of by their owners. Yes, times are hard and I commend Mangapapa's owners for at least not charging top dollar when staffing is so difficult. But you have a choice to make. You're not short of money, so bring it back up to standard and pay what is required to return staffing levels to where they should be. It is unique accommodation in the Hawke's Bay.

Beautiful interior, large suites, a great Easter Dinner, a very nice garden with beautiful roses around the hotel. The Personal is very helpful, the concierge organised e-bikes for us and we had a wonderful ride through vineyards and along the coastline.

Sauna & Whirlpool area is a little old-fashioned.

Breakfast was good but choices were very limited. Staff was very helpful.

We returned from dinner to find the doors locked with no night staff. No one mentioned the doors would be locked or an alternative way to get in. We were fortunate to find someone in the kitchen that was able to let us in through the kitchen. Plan ahead if you stay after staff leaves. I think the it was overpriced for what we were offered.

Stunning gardens, Old estate building and lovely large room. Large jacuzzi bath showrr and double sink. Air con, terrace with morning sun private from other rooms. We stayed in the Herutage suite. Large bed and small sofa area. Cookies on arrival and shown the facilities available, water in fridge daily, pool sauna and gym very nice. Breakfast included. Option to book 5 course dinner 1 night. Good driving distance to vineyards and very close to Havelock Town which has great restaurants cafes and shops.

Breakfast was inconsistent and the staff weren't as knowledgeable as expected. The menu and format for breakfast changed daily. The 5 course dinner was supposed to include wine tasting but we didn't get that. I felt it was a bit expensive. You definitely need a car to get around as nothing close by or safe enough to walk to. No option to not have room serviced.

Mangapapa was a beautiful escape for a couple of locals celebrating our anniversary. From our warm greeting on arrival, the stunning decor in the lobby, bar & restaurant and of course the comfort and elegance of our room…just stunning. The ‘trust the Chef’ menu at the restaurant was exquisite and breakfast the next morning just as divine. Everyone, local and visitor, should treat themselves to an escape at Mangapapa Hotel.

Overall beauty of the property (hotel and gardens) is exceptional. Staff are extremely friendly and attentive. Breakfast was excellent especially coffee and egg 'variations'

Minor point - jet spa was available but water temp too cold.

The area itself is great. The food in the restaurant is amazing. The sauna and jacuzzi are nice. But what really makes this hotel great is the staff.

I liked everything but a wer sauna would be a nice addition.

Very private, quiet surroundings amongst beautiful lush gardens. Great personal service on arrival by Evey, considering we checked in late in the evening.

Digital TV wasn’t tuned. Ordinarily wouldn’t be a biggie but the ABs were playing. We were told the issue was resolved, but had to go back to reception on Day 2 to advise it still wasn’t operational.
