You could not ask for better hosts than Rayma and Phillip! They take such good care of their guests with so many small touches that set them apart from the average bed and breakfast experience. We enjoyed our room and the view from our window, as well as the very comfortable bed. But the highlight was truly the chance to interact with our hosts. We so enjoyed the nightly cocktail hour and a chance to chat with them there and also at breakfast. You feel like you are staying with friends. Rayma’s breakfasts are bountiful and outstanding, and we so appreciated Phillip’s advice on a day exploring the area. We had such a great time going to the places he suggested. The places they suggested for dinners were great.

I am only sorry that we did not spend an additional night

Superb friendly welcoming hosts Rayma & Phillip run a high class B&B with every aspect catered for down to the last detail. Refreshments were offered on arrival. Drinks and homemade canapes both evenings with them and other guests was delightful. The breakfasts were restaurant standard and simply delicious. One of us is an early riser who made good use of the guest lounge both mornings which commanded a spectacular view over Napier Port area and beyond. Highly recommend this exceptional B&B.

Rayma and Phillip run an exceptional b & b! Their attention to detail is unbelievable. The bedroom was large and extremely comfortable. The breakfast was delicious with many home cooked options, and so many other lovely touches such as tea and cake on arrival, wine tasting early evening etc. Our only regret is that we didn’t stay more than 1 night! Easily the nicest place we have stayed in on our trip so far.

Nothing!

Reyma and Phillip are the best hosts, and endeavor to provide the complete B&B experience for their guests. They include appetizers with wine tasting while they sit down with you and spend time to get to know you. Oh, there was port in the room along with chocolate, coffee or tea for your morning before a complete breakfast in their lovely dining room. And we were upgraded to their best room, large with spa bath and double sinks. Most amazing, and this has never happened in 40 years of traveling, Phillip cleaned our dirty windshield just as we were packing up to leave. So on a scale 1 to 10, they're a 15.

That we couldn't stay longer, but we got out just before the Cyclone Gabrielle arrived.

A delight from beginning to end. The room was exactly as reflected - actually we felt like we had won the jackpot. Rayma and Phillip were just a fun couple with huge amounts of knowledge both of the area and in how to have the best of accommodation. Fabulous breakfasts and evening drinks where we got to chat and learn more about the area and local wines that flowed freely. Fantastic digs. Recommended them already.

Cobden Gardens was a lovely place to stay. Phillip and Rayma were exceptional hosts who made us feel right at home and were gracious hosts. The room was lovely - with plenty of room and a beautiful view of the countryside. It was close to the central business district restaurants and they even called to set up a dinner reservation one night. Each evening there was wine and snacks on the porch overlooking their garden which was a delightful addition to our stay. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Napier and with Phillip and Rayma.

Character property with lovely spacious comfortable rooms and great views. Our hosts Rayma and Philip were fantastic providing wine and snacks on their veranda before we went out for dinner. Great breakfast too!

Big spacious bedroom and bathroom, very comfy bed and lots of little touches which all add to the enjoyment of the stay. Particularly nice to sit on the outside deck in the evening and share a drink with the very hospitable hosts. Nice touch to get guests and hosts alike chatting away sharing experiences. Lovely outlook over the garden too. A most generous breakfast on offer to start the day.

A quiet residential area but some very steep paths around the area and not suitable for all.

We spent only one night at Cobden Gardens but we wished we could have stayed longer. Rayma & Philip are the most amazing hosts - friendly, helpful and we really enjoyed sitting down for a glass of wine with them and other guests when we arrived! The made-to-order breakfast was amazing in the beautiful house. The room was big & clean with a nice view. We highly recommend this place and can’t wait to go back.

We loved the view from our upstairs bedroom (and the sunroom next to it )of the mature trees in the garden and the sea beyond. It was a large comfortable bedroom with en-suite- tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean. The breakfasts were delicious, fresh and generous as were the other offerings of wine and hors d’oeuvres before we went to dine in town. Returning to warmed beds(electric blankets on) and treats felt special. It was convivial to chat with the hosts and other guest . My special dietary requests were catered for easily. Rayma and Phillip were cheerful, thoughful hosts of a lovely historic home.

I was sorry we left before we had the chance to explore the garden, but enjoyed seeing birds and quail feeding there in the morning from my window.
