The Masonic is a true landmark hotel. It’s very good and well managed. We stayed in a King room and the Anna Pavlova suite which was simply a dream. The view of the Pacific Ocean from the terrace is fantastic, the beds are good, rooms and building are very clean with an eye for detail and well maintained. We enjoyed the (optional) breakfast at the hotel and since the restaurant was closed on Monday we went to Hapi Organic Cafe around the corner which was excellent as well. The City walking tour (and learn about the history of the hotel) is a must and we enjoyed a beer and fries at the Irish Bar next door. This hotel is one of those gems that you occasionally discover.

Parking rules are strict in Napier. The hotel offered parking for NZ$20 a day while city parking was NZ$2 per hour with a maximum of only 2 hours so you have to plan accordingly. Parking during the weekend is free.

The Art Deco Masonic Hotel was exactly what we wanted. It had so much character and we loved every minute there. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The room was quite spacious and had been quite tastefully upgraded recently. The hotel is perfectly located, and within walking distance of the central Napier sites. We opted to enjoy the walking tour provided by the Art Deco Trust, which is located just across the road next to the museum.

Parking is the biggest problem, as the hotel does not have local parking. There is an area provided for hotel guests about a block away. As we were staying there over the weekend, we were advised to park on the street as there was no time limit. We were lucky as we found a spot right out the front. In the booking information provided by Booking.com, it stated that the Deluxe Studio room had a patio. The staff acknowledged that this was incorrect and would update the Bookings.com page. Our room was at the rear of the property.

Central location, art deco style. Beds comfy. Nice little outdoor area for sitting. Food at the downstairs restaurant really good. This is not operated by the hotel but it is certainly an asset having it in the building. Staff here were amazing, friendly and helpful.

Internal stairs to reach our apartment which we were not aware of. Important for older visitors to know this before booking. No Hotel staff to help with luggage to apartment, 3 ladies in their seventies left to do this themselves. Couches need restoring, springs sagging. Microwave was dirty when we moved in.

Great art deco hotel opposite the esplanade / beach in Napier. Easy to find and the staff provided parking tips (which is free in the area for most of the weekend - good to know rather than paying an offsite parking cost). The room was not big, but certainly comfortable. We had french doors from our room to the central outdoor area which was nice. The bathroom is serviceable, however a shower over bath (quite a step in) may not work for those with any mobility issues. Great hot water though! They have a guest laundry which was great - just make sure you have coins. (reminder to always read the information provided in the room where you learn gems like this before you trapse off to the local laundry)

While it is well presented I think the hotel could do with a bit of a glow up soon to restore some spark - some areas are starting to look tired.

THE top location in Napier and at the same time it is still very quiet. Despite the hotel being full, it was very quiet even inside the building and I could hardly hear any of the other guests. The staff is very welcoming and helpful and I enjoyed having the lovely and vibrant restaurant and bar in the same building. My room was very comfortable with a great shower and hot water within two seconds (not always a given in NZ...). A very nice touch which I appreciated was that a small carton of milk for tea or coffee was replaced every day. The parking lot is just one block away and there is a convenient loading zone just in front on the hotel entrance. All in all a very pleasant stay and I will happily come back to The Masonic anytime.

The professional and friendly greeting upon arrival really set the tone for our stay. The duty manager told us there were 3 suites available and offered to show us the options so we could choose our suite. In such a unique and beautiful building, this was a very thoughtful touch, as we were able to see the wonderful decor and amenities in each room. The art deco styling is perfectly mixed with modern luxury, and very thoughtful touches. I could quite happily return again and again to stay in different rooms each time!

Some rooms require a few stairs to access them - no issue for us but worth noting for accessibility. I have no doubt the staff will recommend a perfect room if mobility access is necessary.

Ideal location. Across the street from the Art Deco Visitor Centre. Has period style rooms which are very comfortable.

The information on facilities available is hard to find. They have restaurants in the same building under different management so don't publicise them. They said there was no breakfast available so we went across the road where we had a good choice. Later in our stay they put out a sign for inhouse breakfast! They also have offstreet car parking available-when we booked they said on parking. Perhaps they meant onsite.

The history including the naming and dedication of rooms to the famous people who have previously stayed there, the art deco decor, our beautifully appointed suite (we stayed in the Jean Batten suite). Very helpful and friendly staff.

We loved everything about this property except the restaurant. We found the quality to be very average akin to what you might expect in an average pub, it’s a shame because the hotel and the appearance of the restaurant promise so much more. As I understand it this restaurant is run independently of the hotel, but because if it’s integration into the hotel you assume it’s one and the same.

It was so wonderful to stay somewhere with such a rich history. There are so many lovely historic touches like door plaques, light fittings, artwork, etc. The room was modern and had a great tea nook, a curtained baggage/wardrobe area and comfortable bed. I appreciated the guest laundry facilities, and loved relaxing on the balcony in the evening. All of the front desk attendants were so helpful. I also loved the bathtub in my room and surprisingly powerful hairdryer.

The air conditioner gurgled like a fountain and was so noisy I couldn't use it as I slept. I also found the bathroom mirrors a challenge - they are at a right angle in a corner, so either you are squashed against the door, or leaning and twisting at an odd angle to see your face front on. Parking was a challenge to find, but still a good location despite the short walk.
