Clean, spacious rooms. Helpful, polite, hard-working staff. The breakfast was fantastic - tasty, plentiful and a huge variety. The pool was great. My (adult) son had his birthday while we were there...and a complimentary bottle of wine and birthday cake was left in his room - a lovely surprise and very much appreciated. Good location for bus station and an easy walk into Coimbra.

The decor was a little gloomy (lots of dark brown) in places - perhaps it could do with updating. However, that is purely cosmetic and it did not adversely affect our stay.

The experience was great! It was our first time in Coimbra (2 hour drive from Braga) and we weren't sure where a "perfect" location would be but Vila Gale turned out to be perfect. Just a mere 8-10 min pleasant walk to downtown and quick 4 min drive to the Coimbra Forum (shopping center) and the famous Portugal dos Pequenitos (not to be missed!). We got a family suite and it was quite large and clean. Breakfast buffet was quite varied and well stocked. We also got lunch from the bar and ate poolside. Pool was amazing - even though a bit chilly - but to be expected mid-April. Would definitely stay again.

Not the hotel's fault but the train rolls by in front of the hotel so you can't walk out directly to the boardwalk by the river at that location - you need to walk further down towards the city center to cross over. Not a deal breaker...

Disappointing surprise to find no (zero) outdoor furniture on the river-view terrace: no even 1 chair on which to sit :( Extremely slippery pool deck. Attention needed here for safety across all ages Management needs to keep a close eye on athletic team groups staying at the property: unpleasantly noisy in hallways, especially at night (not acceptable) Not enough elevators

Very comfortable with great facilities. The personnel were excellent in every area, and very friendly, relaxed, and communicative - but professional at the same time. The food (breakfast, dinner, and the odd room-service) was always very good, and plenty of choice - main dishes always changed from day-to-day. We even complimented the chef on one of them. The swimming-pool was a welcome addition to cool off on some of the hot days. Here again the service at the kiosk was excellent. We really enjoyed an evening of live music in the pool area. We have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.

We would have liked a couple of chairs on our 5th-floor balcony.

Located 10-15 min walk from Coimbra city centre. Hotel offers pool and indoor spa. There are kids entertainment. Room size was good (we were a family of 4). They have a pool bar that was a bit slow. Good parking facilities on both street level and in the car park that is tight size. Staff was friendly though a bit slow. They have special kids menu but you can also choose the buffet. For breakfast there is a large buffet.

There is a train running past the pool but it is not too noisy. Our room overlooked the town so we didn’t hear it in our room. Service is a bit slow and they don’t speak English very well but they are friendly

- Good hotel with kids as it had a mini park in the swimming pool area. So close for parents to keep an eye on them. There was also an other activities room for kids. - The Breakfast was great and had a large variety of both savoury and sweet. - Can walk on river front from hotel to city centre - Had some discounts for sightseeing like "Portugal dos Pequenitos"

The staff were very helpful with information on what to do in Coimbra. The food was great. We had half board which worked well as we spend the day sightseeing and found having dinner in the hotel a relaxing end to the day. 12 check out was good as well so we could relax and not feel rushed to leave. We used the pool facilities on both days we stayed at the hotel which was a bonus.

The pool area was very busy late afternoon so that was the only slight negative. We didn't use the indoor pool only the outdoor one.

Minor issue but worth considering for nervous drivers, the car park was a bit tricky to enter and exit with steep ramps and tight bends requiring a bit of manoeuvring especially if you meet a car coming the other way !

Dinner and breakfast was by way of a buffet, good value but mobbed by coach loads of guests. Very busy hotel and difficult to get served when stuck behind so many fighting to get served. Staff very bvery pleasant and helpful

The check in was far too slow, not enough staff and locals trying to jump a large queue. This need improving.

Our stay at Vila Galé Coimbra was nothing short of exceptional! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the hotel. The breakfast, dinner buffet, the pool everything was top notch!

The car parking was chargeable with 7.5 euros per day, which was kinda weird since Vila Galé has free parking in other locations.
