A very warm welcome from Daniela, and all other staff were equally pleasant and helpful. A beautifully restored historic property in an excellent location, which felt a little 'special'. A very nice stay, thank you.

We really enjoyed our stay here (despite poor weather), and would happily visit again. A small suggestion for improvement would be that on both mornings the coffee at breakfast time was rather cool, and the 'hot tray' for the bacon and scrambled egg was cold: both are easy to correct. However, our main memory is of a very pleasant stay with very friendly staff.

This hotel is full of charm and located in a beautiful historic area. The staff were incredible—very friendly and genuinely helpful. When the air conditioning in my first room wasn’t working, they quickly arranged a new room for me without any hassle. I also misplaced my water bottle, and they had it waiting for me at the front desk the next morning. On top of that, the chef prepared a delicious to-go breakfast for me since I had to leave early. The level of care and attention was impressive. Highly recommend staying here!

The A/C overall struggled to keep up during a heat wave, which made it a bit tough to fall asleep. It’s somewhat understandable given the age of the building, but something to be aware of in very hot weather.

Clean Hotel, very friendly staff, perfect service. My Father, 75 years old fell down and hurt himself. The Hotel Manager was very helpful to treat his wounds and we got a later check out for free so he could rest a bit longer before our airport transfer arrived. The Location is also very good and the old building mixed with modern aspects is quite impressive. Beds are very comfortable and the room size is something you don't see very often for that price. I can highly recommend this Hotel.

The Coffee at the breakfast could be of higher quality, that's the only thing I can complain about.

The staff were excellent - friendly and helpful. Reception is manned 24/7. The craft beer bar had 18 in-house beers and a good range of snacks / meals

The breakfast buffet was rather limited and the same each day. It was served in a small bar area with only a few tables. To get to other tables one had to carry food and hot drinks down some steps. Our twin room was nicely furnished, but being a period property the rooms do not have modern sound-proofing. Our stay was marred by other guests talking loudly in the corridor/ rooms late at night. The beds were quite hard , and no mattress topper was available.

The location. The staff are great.

The bathrooms truly needs renovation. Taking a shower or bath is awkward, somewhat dangerous, and messy....getting water everywhere when trying to shower. The bathtub is too narrow and when in the tub, the shampoo and body wash dispensers are out of reach. Also, the recent renovation of what used to be the breakfast room into a pub is ugly and has wrecked the historic feel and integrity of the building - that was a very poor decision - they should have renovated the bathrooms and left the main floor untouched. Lastly, the current breakfast arrangement jammed into the bar area is uncomfortable - the chairs are meant for lounging, not eating.

We checked in after 3pm and were given a lovely room overlooking the main street. Spacious and with plenty of storage space. The hotel is marvellous, with large areas to relax and plenty of things to look at. The bar next door was fun to go to, and breakfast was lovely, especially as we were able to sit outside. The staff we met were welcoming and very helpful, and had already recommended a local fish restaurant to go to for my birthday. We have already recommended the hotel to other friends should they be in the area.

The hotel did not have it's own car park so we had to park in a nearby one, but we knew that. The only thing that let it down was our bed which, although it looked great being an old 4 poster bed, creaked whenever we even moved, let alone turned over during the night. I am sure that can be resolved as we mentioned it when checking out. This won't put us off going again if we are nearby.

A kettle to make a hot drink at night would be an asset

This restored sixteenth-century mansion is a great choice, next door to the raillway station and the main street. Small rooms almost without furniture is OK in such a place.

When you arrive in a place like this and have choosen to book the option "half board" you certainly expect the restaurant to be a portuguese one, serving cosinha portuguese. But this is not the case. The restaurant only serves american hamburgers etc. They will try to make this up for you by sending you to a place downtown but it could involve an extra fee despite you having paid for half board. It proved that theese restaurants were very good, especially one of them, but this does not change the impression of the hotel and the hotel management as such.

We were walking the Camino and this was our rest stay stop (2 nights). This is one of the nicest hotels we have stayed at in any city. The hotel staff are exceptional. When we told them we were walking the Camino several staff came by and gave us useful information even suggesting a better next day coastal route (which we selected and happy we did). The concierge(s) gave us excellent restaurant advice (and other advice). Dinner first night a "locals" place - Casa Primavera - (does not take reservations you have to get there 10 minutes before dinner service - excellent). Second night - O Laranjeira | Pensão Restaurante ( just fabulous - The concierge made our reservation the day before). For lunch - a great sandwich shop is across the street (A casa dos panados). This is a very clean and safe city and a good Camino rest day stop - plenty to see. Breakfast at the hotel was very good and worth the amount.
