breakfast, location

i think the evening food could be better, bigger variety and better quality, service also was not great, even thought the staff were nice. The roast was good and we ate it most nights we stayed but our local pub grub is better and cheaper. On our first night our food arrived within 5 minutes of ordering and was microwave hot, the first night the chicken gougons were also served cold and unheated. The staff are not great, a fault i put on management and not on the staff, they are not trained well. We had to get up and ask for drinks and deserts, no follow up once initial food was served. The fish and chips were awful the second night. I feel a bigger efford could be put into the food, we ate there reluctantly as we had younger kids, otherwise we woluld have gone somewhere else.

The property was so beautiful, and it always made you feel like you where at home. It is big and spacious. From the moment we checked in till the moment we checked out it was amazing I cannot fault anything on the northern hotel. From the staff all the way up to managers they were amazing. If you have a indigenoused or diagnosed child with a medical condition the northern hotel is the place to be. They make you feel your apart of them and the hotel is yours to. Any problem you had the front desk always went out of there way to help you with that problem and never had an attitude or a face on them. I found a problem with the cold tap in the bathroom and rang down to let them know only 2 minutes of me putting the phone down they were at my door and apologizing the other time I went down to front desk and like that oh I am so sorry let me get that fixed for you. My partner is in a wheelchair for long distance and the hotel was more than adequate to cope with it. Oh don’t get me started on the food, it was amazing just out of this world. I could never fault the food and the food portions were great you could get 1 dinner for 2 people. I cannot even remember any other hotel that we have stayed in that was so helpful and pleasant to help. They were so understanding of our circumstances with our child been autistic and so patient with him and really interacting with he loved it never met a hotel like it. When we were checking out we were looking for a taxi the normal taxi the hotel uses was not working. The other girl went out of her way to ring I think her dad as he is a taxi driver to try and get us a taxi. We have never experienced that before people going out of there way to help us in a hotel stay. I wanna say thank you to Alannah, Kayleigh, and the other 2 girls that I forget there names.

Very comfortable room. Lovely high quality bed linen, great facilities in room, tea and coffee, iron. Hair dryer etc Great shower facilities. Restaurant was very good. Excellent breakfast choices, porridge or cereal, cooked breakfast, toast ,tea or coffee served in pots left at your table. Evening meals were excellent with single course , two course or three course choices. We ate there both nights and chose dinner and pudding. Delicious food. Excellent leisure facilities, lovely pool and sauna and great facilities in gym. Golf course at the hotel is also a boon. Super hotel.

Small improvements, small mini packets of complimentary biscuits in the room would be a nice touch with the free coffee / tea etc Perhaps modernise/ upgrade your catering breakfast food buffet cart in the morning with lids over trays. Very small changes. (Better insulation)

This was our second visit to the great northern, we went as a family of 4. We had our two young daughters with you, 3 & 7. We are thoroughly enjoyed it. The kids loved the pool. The location is excellent, we walked down to the amusements and the town a few times. We had family join.us for Easter Sunday, they stayed one night and also really enjoyed it. Staff polite and helpful. Food in the hotel is beautiful, especially in the bar. Entertainment was great on Easter Sumday. It was lovely to see the children all playing and dancing. Great hotel!

Only issue, we booked this break last August when we had just had a lovely visit for our oldest daughters birthday. We requested a particular room. A couple if days before our arrival we were told the room was confirmed and we had that room. Only to get there and the rooms had changed about. But we got sorted, the girl on reception was very helpful and was able to switch us the next day to the room we had requested. But it did mean we didn't get to unpack properly until we got into the correct room and that was after our Easter Sunday dinner. But overall we did have a great time and will definitely go back.

Staff were super friendly. Location was great. Near beach. Kids were very enquisitive and welcomed everywhere in the hotel. Beds was very comfortable. Great pancake machine, the kids adored the endless pancakes. Very safe ambiance. One of the best rare steaks I've ever had. Pool was great for kids.

Our hot water tap didn't open more than a trickle. Reported it on first night, no one came to fix. Reported again the following morning. Maintenance guy came, couldn't be fixed. There was no acknowledgement or apology upon checkout , I was very dissapointed as i love hotel bath's. Towels for 2 people were provided , we were a family of 4. At breakfast and dinner we had to continously ask for cutlery, milk , butter etc. Wine was plonked in a cooler - my last experience here was very different, I feel the attention to detail is lacking a small bit.

Breakfast was plentiful and delicious....we look forward to returning soon... only next time I'll bring my cossie for the pool!!

Only negative I can say, and it's nothing that can be changed, is the long walk to the room was quite alot for my mum... but she is 91 ...

We loved staying here. The staff were very friendly and most helpful, especially Colm at the leisure suite who really went out of his way to accommodate my disabilities. The parking was excellent and having a blue badge, i was able to park within 15 feet of the front door.

However, we were somewhat disappointed that soup and sandwiches were all that was available for lunch and we had to leave and go in to town to find alternative food. Also the dinner menu was totally lacking imagination and extremely dated (printed on an A4 page)., Only one option for a vegetarian. We felt that we were in an old peoples home at times.

All the staff were exceptionally helpful and were able to provide us with a sea view room for our stay. This is a large former railway hotel and caters for coach parties and was very busy during our stay. We were very impressed with management arrangements that ensured that the non-coach residents had excellent table service as well as the quality of the food in the restaurant.

The weather was unseasonably cool for June.
