The location. Is fantastic. The rooms are small but have everything you need for a comfortable stay.

We stayed 2 nights. Breakfast is included in the room rate. First morning could not fault the breakfast. Second morning the access to the bar/restaurant area was closed and there was no sign of any staff. Ended up using the fire Escape door to head into town to get breakfast. When we returned the other residents were all either hanging around the fire exit or leaving the property. No staff in evidence but was told that someone was coming. This was too late for us as we had a train to catch. When we left someone had turned up and was apologetic.

Breakfast was very good! I had the Eggs Benedict and my husband had the full English breakfast. We enjoyed both, and loved the decor. The location was just perfect. We were on holiday from the US, and shops, pubs, restaurants and public transportation were all a fairly easy walk from the hotel. Lovely, quiet, historic small town and excellent home base for sightseeing. For example, from here we took the train to Whitley Bay for a day at the shore one day, and a bus to Alnwick Castle and Gardens on another day.

This is probably an American thing, but they don't have wash cloths. And it's not just an Auction House thing, even 2 popular hotel chains that we stayed at during our travels didn't have them. So, not really something we didn't like, more of something we didn't expect. Just mentioning it as a heads-up for other American travelers.

Stunning quirky bedroom. Our room had a roll top bath in the bedroom. Four poster bed was comfortable with clean crisp sheets. Separate shower room, all clean and modern. TV fine. Nice 'old' features, a building full of character. Staff were brilliant. Nothing was too much trouble for them, went above and beyond to help us with a problem we had. Cooked breakfast was good. .

Our room was on the front of the building so was above a very busy road. Was hot in the room so when windows were open it was difficult to sleep because of the traffic. Unfortunately there was an awful smell of drains in the bedroom coming from the bath. Again maybe due to the heat in the room. Such a shame because there is so much about the room I liked. Cooked breakfast was good but really missed having an option of cereal and toast and jam in with the cooked option.

The property was very quirky and interesting. Lovely decor throughout the whole hotel. The bar area was comfortable and enjoyable. You had to reserve a table for drinks, therefore, even on New Years Eve you were able to easily access the bar and receive good service from the bar staff. A particular mention for Caitlin and the staff working with her on NYE, they were very friendly, helpful and ensured our stay was very enjoyable. She solved a problem with a drink for us and also after leaving behind an item on our departure, staff helped to ensure it was returned to us. We enjoyed a tasty breakfast the next morning too. Would definitely choose to stay at the Auction House again.

It would have been preferable to have breakfast a little later on NY day.

the staff were amazzing and the check-in went smoothly.The rooms were absolutely wonderful and cozy.

it took us about an hour to find the back entrance into the hotel after my sister's wedding. We were only told to go round to the back of the hotel and we're shown the staircase but there was no easy access and took us a while to find this back entrance. In the morning we couldn't even get down the stairs as the fire door was locked so we had to walk round the back of the hotel but the front door of the hotel was locked so had to head back inside . we called the number and we're told that someone would be there for start of breakfast at 9am..

When we were greeted by the welcoming manager, we were given a free upgrade to a quirky but interesting room with a copper bath in the bedroom and a huge wooden horse and angels wings on the walls The ensuite was a great modern if a little small room The hotel is situated in the junction of the high street and the road to Newcastle But the area is served by a number of restaurants and takeaway (we enjoyed Lolo risk the food and friendly staff Morpeth was a pleasant surprise by the river and having many shops and an up-market precinct

All the rooms very individual and very quirky. Very spacious bedrooms and freshly cooked to order breakfast in the morning.

Only one small window in the bedroom, which meant there was a significant lack of natural light. After hours entrance is through an adjoins residential area and the use of the property’s fire escape, which wasn’t very well lit up. There is then a digital keypad which has to be illuminated I order to enter the code. This is very temperamental to say the least, and it took quite some time to gain entry. Bar closed well before posted time, forcing us to use out of hours entrance No accessible entrance or lifts to rooms

Staff were friendly and very attentive during our stay. Beds were very comfy in the rooms. The bar was quirky and fun, it is a beautiful venue.

The rooms were a lot smaller than we expected from the website photos. No breakfast included in cost, which made rooms feel pricey. Minimal tea and coffee provided in room, no water or glasses. A daily visit to top up was noted on our 2nd night though, including an offer of fresh towels. All rubbish was cleared daily, a bonus in small spaces. The rooms were a little dusty and cobwebs were seen in hard to reach places, basic cleanliness could be improved.

room was lovely, hotel beautiful and staff very helpful and pleasant. only one tiny bad factor was drawer in room was broken and the floor fan was covered in dust but didn't affect our stay

just the fan was covered in dust and when we turned it onm it went over our things and bed but we sorted it out so wasn't really a big issue

The room was amazing, the bed was really comfy and the location was perfect. Staff all really friendly and welcoming.

The bathroom sink and surfaces in the bedroom were completely unwashed, toothpaste on tap and in sink, sticky dressing table, rings on bedside tables. Glass on floor in bedroom. Just general cleanliness let it down unfortunately. I just wiped it down myself and otherwise really enjoyed the stay.
