Good, new facilities, big rooms, fantastic bathrooms, comfort beds and all very clean, but

There are no social common spaces, no hostel vibe of whatsoever (more of a very sad hotel vibe, actually). True, you can go to the beautiful Backpackers Hostel just close to this (there are three different facilities for two different hostels, but it's actually all together and you can move freely among them), but it's not the same thing (at least according to me). Highly recommended for short stays when you need to recharge your battery since it's really comfortable - but not for anything more.

A short walk to center. Clean and spacious dorm and bathrooms. Comfortable bed with curtain, private light and power socket. Strong wifi was great. 2 hostels by the same owner next to one another: this ‘guesthouse’ one has a more calm vibe while the ‘backpacker’ one has more party vibe with a pool. I stayed at both and like both. Luggage storage also available if not too long.

Better pay in USD, exchange rate to CRC was higher than I could find anywhere. No A/C or fan in the room, but it was cool in Dec, not sure how it will be in warmer/colder months.

Location is convenient, our transportation could find easily. Huge fan was nice in the hot weather. Lots of nearby places to eat. Staff; front of house and cleaning were friendly and helpful.

the only reason for the : I face on cleanliness was the one chair was very badly stained. I could not even look at it. Also, it would have been convenient to have something to put our bags on, else guest will tend to use the bed, not a good thing as bags can get very dirty. Please help us help you.

The location was amazing, very clean rooms (especially the floors!), and having access to BackPackers bar and lounge was amazing!! As a solo traveller in my 30s, this is the perfect balance between affordability and comfort. I have no interest in shared rooms in a hostel, so it was nice to be able to book a private room, while still having the benefit of the social aspect of a hostel. I also met the owner, and he was very nice and made a point of chatting with people hanging out at the bar. Amazing central location as well!

My only criticism is that there is a huge rotation of staff who work the front desk (not sure if there’s some kind of coop agreement), so I never saw the same person twice, and I found only the first ones I encountered to actually be kind and approachable, while the others not as much.

Staff. Excellent service. Beautiful courtyard. The staff goes over and above any place I stayed in Costa Rica.

No fan or window ventilation in the room and hotel does not provide up request as an option even with additional fee for fan. I would have gladly paid $5 more for a small fan to block noise and have the feel of ventilation. I recommend getting the larger more expensive room rather than the room with shared bathroom. A lot of noise from room next door interfered with sleep at night and morning. The staff did ask the girls to quiet down around midnight upon my request.

An aging but well-maintained property which has both hotel and hostel accommodations. Hotel rooms were basic, but everything worked. Wifi was good in the lobby and in some rooms, but weak in others. Small enclosed patio will be nice on sunny days. Very helpful desk staff, some with excellent English. Located a short walk from the restaurants and bars of Barrio Escalante.

Consists of several buildings on the same block. Breakfast and lunch (not included in room price) were available in a building across the street from ours. Another building was a co-working space. You have to be buzzed through a security gate into each building. While great for safety, this was sometimes a problem if the front desk was temporarily vacant. Some rooms were noisy in the morning due to the commuter train 1 block away.

This guesthouse is located in the nice area of San José, 30min walk to the city centre. The room was clean and spacious. We also had a little balcony adjacent to our room. There was complimentary coffee and tea served each morning in the reception area. We had a faulty tap in our bathroom; it was replaced the next day (we had to leave our keys at the reception, though, for a whole day).

Nothing major we did not like. Perhaps the only thing to mention is that the parking lot is really tiny: only 3 spaces available (extremely narrow ones), so think twice before you come with a car.

Super friendly and helpful staff, good restaurant with good value for money breakfast, lunch, and dinner (the restaurant is at the Costa Rica Backpackers hostel which is on the other side of the road but they are linked so you get access to both sites). The facilities were clean and comfortable with a beautiful courtyard and garden as well as free, fast wi-fi and free tea and coffee during the day.

The bed was very creaky and the mattress could be a bit thicker but these were really minor things, overall everything was great.

Me and my husband stay here everytime we come to San Jose . We have stayed here probably 10 times ( we live in Costa Rica and come to San Jose for shopping for our business ) I LOVE this hotel. It is clean, good location, private parking , and an incredible deal for the price you pay. I 10000000% recommend this hotel! I will never stay anywhere else when coming to San Jose . I always ask for a certain floor to stay on and they accommodate me everytime . We have a future booking reserved for next month already! See you soon

There is nothing to complain about and I'm picky.

The hostel is nice, quiet, clean, and in a central area of the city. It has a 24-hour check-in which is great for those arriving to San José very late. The property also accepts credit card payments. Our private room was spotless and tidy, and so were the shared bathrooms, and there was good internet throughout the property. The staff was pleasant and helpful from check-in to check-out and provided good information about hostel amenities, nearby attractions, bus and other travellers information.
