I love the access to the lake. I go with my kids and it’s such a relaxing experience. My only complaint is the guest smoking walking in front of rooms when there is a strict no smoking in the rooms policy some guests still smoke. Other than that the stay is great the rooms are comfortable and spacious. I also love the security that patrol the area making me feel safe. They also are on top of everything as in the guest smoking outside the rooms policy they address it very fast. I would definitely recommend anyone to visit and stay here it is worth it. Casino hotels are also family friendly. I do not gamble. I am a single mother on a budget and this hotel fits my budget. That is why I stay here. It’s also very clean and meets all my needs for the time I stay in the city.

I love that they have a river beach access and a good restaurant as well! Honestly Great customer service from the housekeeping to the front desk!

The river front rooms are great but unfortunately the bugs come in when you go in and out of your room and then you are stuck with a few in your room. It’s almost inevitable. I wish there was more bug zappers out there or something to help more especially for those rooms closest to the water!

The pool Needs shade. Very sterile and hot due to no shade. The restaurant food is terrible. We have tried it several times on multiple occasions and still bad. This trip we did not have dinner, but we did have breakfast. Chicken fried steak was hard and old tasting according to friend eating with us. I had the worst eggs Benedict EVER! Rancid butter on mushy non toasted English muffins. The sauce had NO flavor. I had to add lemon from my glass of water.

The beds are very comfortable. The morning staff is super nice. I love the tiny soaps they give and water bottles very convenient.

My only complaint is that a guest checked in right next to me that was smoking in a non smoking room. The smell was coming into my room through the connecting door. I didn’t appreciate that at all, but the staff was helpful, somewhat. The guest continued smoking all throughout the night and walked past my room smoking through out the day. I understand it’s a casino hotel, but the rooms are non smoking and the guest need to be more courteous of other guests staying in the hotel.

Besides the all around atmosphere we love the pioneer because of how everything is separate from eachother .. not just in a casino all the time .. we like to be outside and enjoy walking the boardwalk to get breakfast and go to the casino and bar area .. we also love the rive view rooms during the summer .. the pioneer has a old school but yet really comfortable vibe .. me and my wife also like the fact that we don’t have to walk through a Smokey casino to get to our room.. we stay there Everytime and will continue to stay ther in the future..

The ice machine situation could be better ..need machines on every floor

Room prices and quality

Pizza restaurant was horrible. The wait was too long and the pizza was so greasy we threw it out instead of eating it and we were hungry after driving from New Mexico that day

The room itself was clean, very well lit, and once I fell asleep, I stayed asleep. The beds were so comfortable. The shower was powerful and clean, and the products given to bathe were well above average. I was impressed. Staff was incredibly friendly and fast to help out, any time... day or night. That includes hotel staff as well as everyone inside the casino that I had interacted with. Even simply sitting at a machine or walking around, every staff member of every position would greet me, at the very least. Made me feel welcomed, like they genuinely want their guests to have a positive, pleasant experience. I like the location of the casino and the overall theme of it.

The ice machines seemed to keep having issues, so we would have to wander around to find ones that worked. And, I've been spoiled by other hotels with having mini fridges in the rooms... this hotel doesn't have that. Or at least, our room didn't. It was only slightly inconvenient to not have a fridge and not be able to find ice easily. Not a huge deal breaker. Please don't let this deter you from staying here.

The all you could eat buffet. Had it both Saturday and Sunday. The take home (for sale) cupcakes. Carrot cake was a hit with the family! Ice machine was close to room and working. 2nd night alot more quieter.

The refrigerator in the cabinet in the room didn't work. Maintenance had turned it on but it still didn't work. (Left note in room). Maybe more pillows for the beds. First night, someone was playing a TV really loud all night. And lastly we wish we could have stayed longer, but our teenage straight A's gifted high school student had to be back for school on Monday for finals week. Has not missed a day of school in years!

The check in was amazing as they switched our room to a disabled room for my husband.

We stay at the Pioneer because we have a private beach. They last year stopped pop up canopy's, coolers, and tables and checked wrist bands. This year we had everyone regardless if they stayed there and they were starting their Sea-Doos in front of the kids and my disabled husband. Security did nothing. There was no space to set up due to big families and their friends and it was unsafe with the in jet skis.

As original room seemed to have some issue (prior our arrival), we received an upgrade (double room, river side), so its not possible to rate the original room. However, we had a great stay and the room was large and clean. We didnt use the casino but the pizza place inside, definitly to be recommended. We would stay again!

There was a minor resort fee (~9$?) which was not mentioned here, prior booking I think, but compared to other hotels/motels in the surrounding, definitly much lower and fair, so not an issue for us at all
