We had a wonderful time at Villa Shade. The staff is incredibly kind and considerate, really doing everything they can to provide you a comfortable and enjoyable stay. We had great food from which most of the fruits and vegetables where from the local garden that the owner gave us a personal tour of. He was incredibly courteous and you could feel the passion he and his wife put into growing the place over the past few decades. Furthermore, my girlfriend has celiac disease and he went out of his way to make sure she could safely eat breakfast and dinner. The place itself is beautiful and the room was comfortable. I can fully recommend staying at Villa Shade, whether you stay near Negombo for multiple days, or just as a stay-over when flying in our out of Colombo airport.

From Colombo we went to Nogombo and stayed at Villa Shade. We stayed for 3 nights. Villa Shade is owned by a really nice man that started this paradise with his wife. Everyone working there is so kind, helpful and polite. Especially our friend Dilection. He took care of our son (1,5) so well. The location is perfect. A hidden gem, still close to everything you need. They grow their own vegetables and fruits and do everything to have a wonderful garden. The food is amazing too. Swimming pool is clean. Rooms are big and clean. We even had our own outside space which is the best when you have a young child. Thank you so much for our stay.

We stayed here the first and last nights of our trip and it was ideal to get to and from the airport (about 20-25 mins taxi ride). The staff were exceptional and the traditional Sri Lankan breakfast, lunch, and dinners were superb. Without us having to ask, they also catered to our two young children food-wise. The lads who worked there were amazing, playful and friendly with the kids and even took the time to show them round the organic vegetable garden. Our room was lovely with an indoor/outdoor bathroom and small kitchenette. Overall a perfect stay!

The only minor negative was that the wooden planks around the pool were a bit shabby and needed a bit of TLC.

Everything went very smoothly here, from the late night airport pick up we arranged via the hotel right up to our departure the next day. This made a big difference after a long day of travel with young children. The family villa was clean and comfortable with good AC and we had a great sleep. Loved waking up to the sound of birds singing in the morning. The breakfast of hoppers, local fruit etc was delicious. The well established and maintained gardens made for a relaxing setting and the kids enjoyed climbing up the treehouse, playing basketball etc. Everyone there was very friendly from the owner to the staff. Highly recommend Villa Shade.

Nothing- all was as expected

We had a wonderful stay here. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed and immediately felt at home. The garden is truly beautiful, with an abundance of vegetables and fruit that they grow themselves. If you’re interested, they are happy to give you a tour of the garden. Most of the people spoke good English, and some are still working on improving their skills. The pool was clean and well-maintained. The breakfast was typically Sri Lankan and absolutely delicious – a fantastic way to start the day. Shiraj and Deleksion (I hope I spelled the name correctly) were incredibly helpful and very kind. We will be spending our last night in Sri Lanka here as well, so see you soon!

A few extra hoops in the bathroom would be nice to hang clothes.

Villa Shade is a hidden gem! The property was beautiful with lovely tropical gardens and comfortable rooms (with a fabulous outdoor bathroom). Shiraj was a lovely host who cares deeply about the property and his guests. They have created a beautiful and welcoming atmosphere and even grow an all organic garden on the property! All of the staff was helpful and hospitable during our stay and accommodated a very early morning checkout time- we wished we had more nights to spend at this hotel.

The staff was excellent: very friendly and very helpful. They were also very flexible with times for breakfast and dinner. The servicelevel was higher then we expected. The athmosphere around the villa was very nice: quiet and cosy. The villa and swimmingpool were super. It was a perfect place to adjust to the weather eand time after a long flight. I would definitely recommend it.

We liked everything!

Villa schade was wonderful! There was transport from the airport to the guesthouse arranged. Next to this we had a delicious diner in villa shade, with fresh fruit and vegetables from the garden. The owner did everything to make it as comfortable as possible for us. The breakfast was very good! We got a tuk tuk to the fish market and in the afternoon the owner arranged a boat ride in the lagoon. When leaving he got us the same English speaking driver from the airport pick-up to bring us to our next stop. We highly recommend this place!

This was the perfect place to stay after arriving in Sri Lanka and before departing to the tea country. The property is beautifully maintained and we could tell a lot of love goes into it. The gardens are so peaceful and beautiful, and the family room perfect for our family of five with three young boys. The hosts went out of their way to serve us a delicious, plentiful breakfast the next morning. The provided food was perfect for our children as well as delicious, home made Sri Lankan food with organic ingredients from their own garden. We just wish we had longer to enjoy it. The swimming pool and grounds were so peaceful and great for exploring. If we return to Sri Lanka we would choose to stay here again.

Villa Shade certainly felt like coming home. We stayed for 3 nights. This place is a beautiful labour of love by Shiraj and Deepika. Full of Srilankan herbs, spices, fruit and vegetables, the garden highlights the natural beauty of Srilanka. Breakfast is delightful experience with a combination of natural juice, fruits and traditional Srilankan sweet pastries. Home cooked dinner is typically Srilankan and must be tried if you want the authentic experience. On our first day we used the bikes to cycle to negombo town and the beach. On the 2nd day Shiraj took us to the coconut toddy field to show us how toddy was extracted. After a lovely toddy, he took us to see how cinnamon was prepared with humanity. sustainability and respect. Highly recommended. You will leave experiencing typical Srilankan hospitality and a full heart and stomach 🥰
