Check-in was very easy , I had a bike and I was offered to keep it in a secured place .I booked a twin room for one and was offered a double room which was lovely and had all amenities. As this is a pub I ate dinner and it was very good . I was thinking there will be noise being above a pub but it was very quiet very early on .I slept really well . The breakfast in the morning was exceptionally good .Amazing staff

Stopped at the Shepherds Inn whilst cycling the C2C. Secure bike storage, cosy comfortable twin room, excellent food and a good range of well-kept beer. The landlord was brilliantly welcoming and helpful, getting us in and settled fast, bikes stowed away, and then seeing us on our way early the following day. You'll struggle to find a better pub for overnighting anywhere.

Myself and my 12 year old son had an unplanned stay at the Shepherds Inn on Fri 20th Oct when we couldn't complete our journey from London to Stirlingshire as all the trains were delayed and then cancelled altogether. We had a great stay, and couldn't have been made more welcome. After arriving after the kitchen was closed we were still offered fish and chips which were great (and which saved us from pot noodles and crisps!), and were really kindly offered a lift back to the station in the morning. The breakfast was also great, and rooms very clean and comfortable. Altogether couldn't recommend more and just want to say a massive big thanks! We will definitely be back now that we know the Shepherds Inn is there.

We booked last minute on the day as a spontaneous trip to the Lakes, to climb Helvellyn the next day, and thankfully we got the last available room. We told the lady who checked us in (I sadly didn’t get her name) that we were leaving very early in the morning to catch the sunrise, so would miss breakfast. She immediately went to talk to the chef and arranged for some plates of food and bottles of orange juice to be made up for us and left in a fridge for us to grab as we left! We were so grateful for such kind and hospitable service, and the food was a great help before the hike. There was plenty of parking available, and you can book to eat in the restaurant which serves tasty pub classics. The room itself was very comfortable, cosy and perfect for what we needed. We definitely recommend staying at the Shepherds Inn!

Only slight downsides were the green emergency exit light in our room, as it was incredibly bright and located directly above the bed, and the curtains over the window as they didn’t block out much light at all, and a bright outdoor light was located directly outside our window. An eye mask solved both of these issues however and I slept soundly!

Location ideal for our needs. Food always excellent: great veggie and meat breakfasts and delicious evening meals served in the bar. Staff friendly and helpful. Specific room request granted with thanks.

Power cut externally which was out of control of accommodation. We were still able to have an evening meal offered and were kept very comfortable despite this.

The location was fine as we just needed somewhere to stay in the Penrith area. The room was quiet and we had a good night’s sleep.

Believe it or not there are two Shepherd’s Inns within 5 km’s of each other and of course our GPS sent us to the wrong one, so we wasted half an hour finding the right one. This may be my fault but , for not reading the property facilities correctly , but there was not an ensuite bathroom in our room. We had to use a shared bathroom.

Absolutely brilliant. We did the C2C and this place was bang on route. They catered for our 5 bikes too. The host/staff were brilliant, couldn't have done any more to help with our stay. Dried clothes and filled our water bottles up too. The evening meal was very tasty indeed as was the breakfast too. Would highly recommend the shepherds inn 💯

Setting. Excellent straightforward all round pub, with good food, a menu you would happily choose any dish from, knowing it would be well made/ good example. Really good wine list encouraging exploration with undemanding prices. A pub where locals , tourers, young, old all seem comfortable with. Good beer; lovely open village green. My second stay over quite a long gap. Still impressed. Rested. Happy

I overheard fellow guests saying they were kept awake by a flower pot automatic waterer dripping, but she appeared to love everything else.

Great location for our one night stopover not far from Penrith, about a 10 minutes drive from the M6. Country pub on a village green. Friendly staff and excellent food.

Liked everything. Would only comment that the bathroom in the twin room (Herdwick) is tiny which might be an issue for anyone with mobility issues.

Everything that I expected from a place I had visited several years before. Well-appointed room , very comfortable bed. Slightly odd en-suite layout , but fine. Great food - good menu for dinner and fine breakfast.
