Although the hotel is a little older the room was a good size, we found the bed to be very comfortable and the bathroom was spotless. We were surprised by the choice of breakfast as we weren't expecting a hot option and it was very good. There was some confusion with a coach party and the timings for Sunday breakfast which meant that a lot of guests wanted it at the same time, BUT the staff handled the situation brilliantly and everyone still got the breakfast that they wanted. All the staff were very friendly and helpful during our stay. The hotel suited our needs and we will return again.

Booked via Booking.com months ago, when I bought tickets for me and my teenage daughter, to see Sam Fender in Newcastle. I paid £38.50 on booking and was non-refundable. I'll be honest, I didn't have the highest of hopes given the price I paid, or on first impressions of the area when we arrived. That being said, my daughter and I only needed a bed for the night and a shower, so we weren't particularly concerned that is was basic. How surprised were we? Staff were so friendly and helpful, and our room was ready at 12noon, as we requested an early check in, so that we could freshen up after a 3 hour drive from Cheshire. There was a £5 charge for 24 hour parking which was super easy to pay via the device at reception. The room was excellent, very clean and tidy with a comfy bed and pillows. The bathroom was fully equipped with toiletries etc. When we arrived back at 12.30am, we were chuffed to bits that we could get a freshly cooked pizza from reception. Please ignore the negative reviews, if a cheap and cheerful base is what you require, then this is the place for you. I worked in the hotel industry for many years and I believe you get what you pay for. This hotel exceeded all my expectations, and for that gets a 5 from me!
My only criticism was the return Metro from Newcastle, which is no reflection on the hotel or staff. The last tram from Newcastle is 11.30pm and terminates in Sunderland, rather than the end of line, which is closer to the hotel. As 2 women on our own it was quite daunting as there was no taxi rank at the tram stop that we could see and the town centre is a ghost town. Managed to find a Holiday Inn where we ordered an Uber to take us back to The Magnum.

One word Adam, we stayed there for the first time and we met Adam! Second tome we stayed was because of Adam! I live in California and visit Sunderland quite often at least three times a year because I actually grow up in Southwick very near to Castletown where the Magnam is located. We have traveled and lived in a lot of different places and countries around the World and we have never met any who is so dedicated to his job. We will always stay at the Magnam as long as Adam is working there. We actually sent a card to Adam thanking him for how welcome and comfortable he made us feel.
Wish there was more of a sit down breakfast available, but the coffee was good.

Warm welcoming by all staff. - My children are so chatty and they made time for them. Recommendations from staff for local outings. - offered a discount on one. Simple breakfast but good. Really comfy bed!
Thin ceiling - Could hear the person above us pacing up and down their room until 12am. My children couldn’t sleep until they stopped. Other than that, we had a brilliant stay!!

It was great value for money. The location was just out of town but I think they are developing the area. It was only about £6 Uber to Seaburn. It seemed like it used to be a premier in so had much of the same facilities. Maybe just a little more run down. There were lots of extra food and drink items available at reception. Great if you forgot to get any snacks or pre drinks. The staff were great.

Lovely friendly staff, plenty of parking only £5 at night very reasonable.. breakfast baps were fine, plenty of filling in them as well as cereal, pastries and toast, and fruit juices. Also they have snacks and drinks available to purchase during your stay
I was disappointed there was no lift, but there are only 2 floors, there are rooms on the ground floor

Staff went above and beyond for us, even moving us to another room because of noise from people above. Rooms where clean and tidy and comfy beds.
Nothing major, but a few more plug sockets would be helpful. Oh.... and some air freshener in the toilet at reception haha!

The staff are great , they are so friendly , welcoming and attentive . The location was very good for us . The hotel is very clean..
Only that there is no kitchen , which affects breakfast choices , BUT , that is reflected in the price , so not complaining at all . The staff attitude is so good to that , and go over and above to make your breakfast , the best it can be .

Clean and tidy. Comfortable bed. Staffs are friendly to sort out my booking problem and give me the best option. Surely if I go to Sunderland for competition again, will stay in the same place. Nearby the stadium, lots of retail shops just next to it. The breakfast can be choose either a hot bap or continental.
A bit noisy while people walked on next room/ upper rooms
