I enjoyed the pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room - the reason I booked it. Although I'd never stayed anywhere, you had to get out of the jacuzzi during its rest period. Closing was changing from 9 to 8 pm, leaving less time after a day out and meal to use the pool/gym. It was a good base for visiting Beamish, National Glass Centre, WWT, and Durham. Bed was comfy, a separate shower and toiletries were provided. Good position for eateries and the lovely sandy beach.

The view of the car park and the main building's roof wasn't the best (lots of sea view ones empty but no upgrade offered). As the window barely opened, the Dyson type fan was a lifesaver. Breakfast was OK, I'd have liked sliced pineapple and melon (had watermelon). We didn't mind no housekeeping (ask at reception for top ups), but some would.

The location is exceptional. The beach is a step away and so beautiful 💜 The room was comfy and the bed just right for me but I'd have liked a glass for my water and not a plastic cup. A choice of pillows would have been good too - maybe they would have offered an alternative if I'd asked. The staff were lovely both at reception and the housekeeping ladies. The pool and jacuzzi were wonderful and I enjoyed relaxing there. There are a sauna and steamroom too but I didn't use those. All were spotless. I didn't use the breakfast service as I felt it expensive but the Bungalow Café is close by and I love it for both the food and the view or you can eat cheaply at Morrisons (also close by). There are a lot of restaurants a short walk away to enjoy. This hotel is a great place to stay. A calm environment by the sea and I'll definitely be returning.

The place has a lovely feel to it that made me feel calm and very relaxed. The location is perfect, with the sea on your doorstep.

The location is great for walks on the promonad which has a lovely sandy beach, there are plenty of restaurants, pubs and nice little fish & chip shops, there are lots of seating areas and benches to sit and enjoy the view.

The hotel seems to have continued with the self-service rules from covid. If you wanted anything you had to ask for it at reception, I asked for a couple of extra pillows, and he gave them to me to take back upstairs to my room 😌 .Housekeeping was administered every 3rd day, so if you stayed for 2 nights, nothing was done, i.e., empty bins, change towels, clean the bath.

Lovely location, right on the seafront. Has hotel parking which was free for hotel guests. The hotel is lovely, clean and includes leisure facilities such as pool, jacuzzi, steam room, sauna and gym. We had a sea view room and the view was beautiful. The room had an iron, ironing board, hair dryer as well as tea and coffee making facilities available. We had prepaid for breakfast this had a great selection of both hot and continental options again with a lovely sea view.

The hotel is lovely but I personally found the bed a bit firm and the floor was squeaky. The room relied a lot on the day light through the big windows which thankfully we had a lot of visiting during the end of July but if you come in winter I do think the room may feel a bit dark as it has no main light just numerous lamps.

100%. Slept better than I have for a while. Breakfast buffet was excellent both in presentation and choice. Swimming pool was warm, clean and a main part of my holiday. Location was opposite the beach and a number of pubs within short walk. One next door. I was so impressed that originally I booked on way to bamburgh and decided to book in again on the way back down the country. Staff were lovely and attentive.

It was unavoidable but I am disabled and the lift was out of order. I was given the top floor 359 at the furthest point. To be fair I can’t remember if I filled the details in on booking. Also it’s peak time and I booked late. On my return journey I was given first floor which was easier.

I appreciate staff kindness and helpfulness

The safety box wasn't working. It resolved, but it took some time. It wouldn't be a problem, but I drove 4 hours after the night shift to have some sunny hours on the beach, so time was important to me . Another thing is that I was told that the latest I could have dinner at the hotel restaurant was 8:30 PM. But when I arrived at 8:17 PM, the man refused to take my order and told me to ask at the bar, "If they'd agree to serve me anything to eat." It sounded a bit like I was begging for alms.. and it was very unpleasant.

Great location, good parking, big airy room with a sea view, fan available

Had to wait and even call for reception staff on arrival, leisure facilities were out of use because of electrical issue, this was sorted later in the evening. There is only one lift which was out of action when we returned early evening elderly couples were being helped up and down the staircase with walking aids etc, a second lift in a hotel of this size would be helpful. Although the room was a decent size and the bed comfy we did pay for a superior room, there was no bottled water available in the room and although the bathroom was a good size the shower cubicle was quite small.

The Grand Hotel is situated right on the seafront with easy vehicle access and plenty of parking (register your car on entry). The team are among the friendliest I have ever experienced in ANY hotel - reception, breakfast/bar, housekeeping crew all friendly, professional and accommodating. The hotel is well presented, though a few areas are looking tired, it is clean and my room was a great size with lovely bathroom and instant hot water! Comfortable bed and blackout curtains made for a great sleep. Toiletries, tea/coffee and biscuits all provided too. Didn't get to use the spa, but will definitely on my next stay - which I most certainly will be staying here again!

Nothing at all! Great all round experience

Our room was a lovely large comfortable room with a large bed. Bathroom with bath and shower. Breakfast was fantastic value and one of the best hotel breakfasts we have had. The hotel is wonderfully situated right on the seafront and very close to a main bus route into Sunderland city centre. Parking was plentiful and conveniently positioned.

The restaurant menu was a little limited with an Asian theme which is not for everyones taste. They did do a simple bar menu which was good.

The reception was excellent, efficient, cheerful and organised. Secure parking included. Public spaces were pleasant and well maintained Our room was lovely,. Clean, spacious and well equipped. We had sufficient towels, hair dryer, iron and in-room tea facilities.Large TV. Good lighting. The bathroom had a bath and separate shower and was stocked with soap etc. Bed was large, firm and comfortable. Housekeeping were very friendly Breakfast was excellent (Buffet style).and in a lovely space Again, staff were very friendly.

Nitpicking, our room was a little too warm and the tea at breakfast is pre-made in an urn so a little too stewed.
