For a historic hotel the room was cosy and the bed was very comfortable. Interesting ground floor rooms decorated in appropriate style in line with age of house. Excellent tv and internet coverage which was a bonus. Breakfast was high quality and service was above average.However choice on breakfast menu limited as staying for three nights was somewhat choice repetitive. Location was perfect for our needs .

Plumbing was a major issue in our room as the hot water temperature was dangerously high and the cold water in the bath was a trickle,Adjusting the shower was nigh on impossible. This had been reported way back in May by previous guests but not addressed as was seal on bath panel which still leaked . Car parking a bit hit and miss as it was not surfaced properly and ill defined as next to car sales forecourt.

A lovely historical manor hall but it felt like an annex as rm2 via a door then down and up stairs off the main staircase! Room a good size, desk and soft chair, TV near the bed. Towel rail very loose but good heavy towels Tea pot was great for a good pot of tea 😍 mugs for sale too. Full Hardwicke breakfast was delicious, staff lovely and helpful. I had to ring to make sure it was open as the front was so dark and parking is near the motor part!! Lots of blue badge parking at the front. No main light but various lamps, I unplugged one to charge phone near the bed

Directions on booking.com lead straight there then park behind the hotel! Shower wasn't very powerful, toiletries provided. Thin toilet roll....!

This is a charming hotel, not only the grounds, the building itself and the rooms but the staff also. It is a very old property but well kept and the thing that makes this place so special, I have been staying up here for a number of weeks now, is the staff. They are amazing, cannot do enough for you, engaging, funny and informative. I met one of the owners a few weeks ago who was happy to talk me through the extensive and fascinating history of the building. On top all that the food it outstanding and real value for money. The carvery is one of the best I have ever experienced and again, the staff cannot do enough for you to make you feel welcomed each time you stay. This is an absolute gem of a hotel and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone.

Working from the hotel can be a slight challenge, the WiFi isnt the best but given the shape of the building, no matter how much you boost the signal it's not going to reach everywhere. A very first world problem though and most people staying are visiting the area for a holiday, not for work so its not absolutely essential and I do like to relax in the gardens when I have finished a days work anyway. Other than that no issues at all.

I have stayed at this Hotel with my colleague over the last few months and have been thoroughly impressed. From the moment I arrived, the staff went above and beyond to make me feel welcome—genuinely warm, attentive, and always ready to help with a smile. It's rare to encounter such consistently excellent service. And a special mention to Steff who really brightened our day and is just such an amazing lady! The hotel itself is full of character, with a beautifully preserved old-world interior that tells a story in every detail. High ceilings, antique furnishings, and unique architectural touches give it a timeless charm that you don't find in modern hotels. Outside, the grounds are just as memorable—lush, well-maintained, and perfect for a peaceful stroll or morning coffee. It truly felt like an escape from the everyday. If you're looking for a place with personality, history, and an incredible team behind it, I can't recommend this hotel enough. In fact I have booked later this month to spend a night there with my wife for my birthday.

WIFI can be a bit a little weak at times making it a challenge to work from the hotel, but this is not surprising as the hotels architecture is not very conducive to WIFI. Nothing else to mention as far as I am concerned.

Loved our brief stay, such a treat to be able to share it with our 2 dogs. The staff we met were smashing; very accommodating (despite our very late arrival), warm and friendly, and love dogs which is a huge bonus!! The hotel is quirky and still has the feel of an old, traditional manor house, serving as a peaceful retreat in a great location. The room was just what we needed; clean and spacious with a super comfortable bed. Breakfast was great value for money with a good choice of cooked items and a range of cereals, yogurts and fruit. We didn't take our dogs to breakfast with us, but this is an option! Overall a great place and we would happily stay again 😊

The only issue with our room was a stiff cold tap that was hard to turn, and noisy, whistling bath taps!

Breakfast - friendly and chatty staff who we enjoyed talking to. Room was perfect for allowing pets - we brought a dog who really benefitted from the room being secluded and at the end of the corridor instead of being in the middle and getting upset at people walking past the room all night.. Also the main bedroom area was nice and comfortable. Old fashioned, manor-house style but that's what you're after when you stay somewhere like this!

Two single beds pushed together even though advertised as a double room. Shower not good - not very powerful and cubicle very small. The whole of the bathroom just needs an update - it's a shame as we felt it let the bedroom down a bit. BUT it's all functional and did the job for us! We were staying at the hotel while in the area for a wedding and the room was a good size for this, however none of the mirrors have good enough lighting to do your hair and makeup!

The location was good for visiting family in Blackhall Colliery and Peterlee. The welcome was excellent, friendly and supportive. We booked a superior room (Room 10) which was a good size, certainly clean and the bathroom was neat and functional. We reserved an evening meal, the food was very good (lasagne & gammon steak) and served properly hot. Breakfast on Sunday morning was equally good, friendly staff and not too long a wait for food. Our experience matched our expectations from the reviews we read when we booked. We agree that we would stay again.

No real issues but: For us, the bed was a bit soft and springy but that's subjective, it might well suit others. The extractor fan in the bathroom wasn't working so that didn't help the moisture. These are not criticisms, simply observations. It is a very old building but shows signs of being cared for to a reasonable extent. If a new Premier Inn is better for someone, then fine, but the Manor is very good.

The Staff were exceptionally friendly in all departments. Being dog friendly is a bonus and the way they cater for the dogs in certain rooms is just brilliant and all for only an extra £10 per dog. The area is tranquil, the food is lovely and reasonably priced. Cannot fault our stay at all. We will definitely be returning 😍

If you do struggle with mobility or an older dog be mindful to ask for a room with the lesser amount of steps to encounter. It's not a what we didn't like just a helpful comment to those that may need it.

The staff are absolutely lovely. So friendly and helpful. We were visiting family in the area so brought our dog with us and the hotel and staff were very welcoming of him & all the dogs. The breakfast was smashing, hot fresh and lots of it. Our room was spacious, with plenty of room for the dogs bed and gear. It was nicely decorated, clean and warm, comfortable beds and lovely bedlinen. The hotel is a beautiful building and holds some fascinating history. The staircase is gorgeous.

There wasn't anything we didn't like. The en-suite shower room was a little dated and snug, but it served its purpose with lots of hot water, so not an issue.

Beautiful old manor house in lovely grounds, welcoming staff and very interestingly decorated bedroom. The lounge/bar area had a lovely warm atmosphere and a great pint of Worthington's. Choice of food was good and what we had was excellent, the same for breakfast and the main dining room. The whole place was charming.

My only problem was the bed, which obviously is a very personal thing. I prefer a softer mattress, and I give off a lot of heat when I sleep. So, the beautiful, plump duvet was very much wasted on me. If there had been a sheet under the duvet, I could have peeled the duvet over and just used a sheet for a cover. My wife, on the other hand, loved the duvet but did think the mattress was a tad hard. There was nothing else I didn't like! 😊
