We've stayed here several times before. Building has character, beds are very comfortable, most of the staff are friendly and the bar is clean with pleasant seating. Great breakfast choice, presented well. A big thank you to Dawn who is super friendly and goes above and beyond to look after my elderly mother. Mum is poorly with dementia but Dawn always treats her with so much warmth, patience and respect. Thank you again Dawn!

It's an old building and it would be wonderful to see GreeneKing keeping up with maintaining it with a lick of paint and a few minor repairs. Car parking can be challenging as non residents appear to use the limited spaces so we couldn't always have an alcoholic drink at the end of the day until we had found a space.

I stayed in a motel style room near the parking lot and my colleague had a room in the pub. My room was more than sufficient for my stay. Very comfortable bed, a good sized desk and good wifi - which as a business traveller was useful. My room had two windows - the curtains were on a rod that stuck out from the wall - this meant that there was a large gap between the window and curtain closure point leaving my room easy to look into from the parking lot and I had to rig-up closing the door (beside the window) onto the curtain on order to ensure privacy. As a single woman staying outside the hotel this was not ideal. The room was cosy (it was very cold when I was there) - the chair for the desk was broken so every time I moved it, the back came off. I meant to report it but kept forgetting once I got into the pub (50 or so yards walk)! Parking was slightly stressful, supposed to be for hotel guests but obviously people using the pub also parked there. There are about 8-10 parking spots and when I arrived the parking lot was full; there seemed to be a group meeting at the pub - when they left a number of the spots became available. It would be useful if the pub hotel could somehow figure out a way to reserve spots for hotel guests who request parking. The woman who served us breakfast both mornings was lovely! Very friendly and helpful; and on the second day remembered our orders and was able to tell us about local places to eat etc. All staff were friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay there again and recommend.

Very friendly staff especially the lady who was in charge of breakfast. Great choice of breakfast. Plenty choice of food on the menu and of course a full bar. Rustic atmosphere in the pub which was on the edge of town but not too far to walk to.

We stayed in the stables (No 2) at the back of the pub in the car park. The room unfortunately looked very tired and needs a paint as the walls were badly marked. The carpet was very worn and the edges were not fitted. The shower had mould around the bottom.

Wonderful bungalo-style room separate from the Bushel pub. Fully carpeted large en-suite room with full ameanities. Large double bed with duvet, clean bed sheets and pillows. Hand towel and bath towels included in the room. Free tea/coffee, milk and sugar and biscuits included in room. Hand soap in bathroom and in shower. Toilet paper in bathroom. Rubbish bin in bathroom and in room. Large desk in room. Night stands on each side of double bed. One desk chair and one comfy armchair . Plenty of plug sockets in room. Wardrobe with coat hangers in room. Key to enter room. Free good speed WiFi. Good location in centre of Bury St Edmunds. On-sight parking. Nice pub with good atmosphere, surves English pub food at reasonable prices. Breakfast available daily for an extra fee.

Breakfast not included in room price. Breakfast finishes at 9 am and is a little early. Food often takes a long time to be surved.

Great facilities, very comfortable bed and great power shower. Staff were exceptional. Sam checked me in and poured a perfect Guinness. Also went to the trouble of printing a map for me to find the event I was attending. Dawn from housekeeping was charming and polite whilst I was checking out. Great team. It makes such a difference when travelling. Had a goodbye pint in the bar, once again delivered with a smile! Sorry, don't know his name but again friendly and professional.

Nothing but perhaps the outside music is a lit irritating!

Perfect location, close to the train station and on the cutest little road but very close to the town centre too. Near lots of little cafes and shops - lovely atmosphere to the place! We got married and had our buffet/reception in the pub and it was brilliant. The room was a good size and very comfortable, and it way very peaceful once the pub was shut. Bathroom was lovely and clean and very modern looking. Just in general a nice place to stay.

We had an amazing stay but it was clearly very hectic and they were slightly understaffed, but again this did not impact our stay! We could just tell everyone was a little stressed and trying to keep on top of everything - they all deserve a raise for how well they dealt with it as it was very very busy in the pub.

Had enjoyable stay at the bushel, when I was given my room it was by the side of the car park and on the main route into the rear entrance of the hotel. It was rather noisy at night after the bars closed, people walking home laughing and joking etc.

Now for the bad news. At Monday morning breakfast the wheels came off completely. After ordering my full English breakfast it took a least 30mins. to arrive when it did finally arrive it was absolutely abysmal there was a couple of items missing the egg white was under cooked,the plate was swimming in cooking oil and probably sixteen baked beans. I should have complained to the manager but I was strapped for time.

Good room, pleasant people ideal location for me, good food. Clean.

The room (5)was massively overheated on arrival. Only one radiator on though. On enquiry and investigation heat was from boiler next door and presumably lack of lagging. Opened all windows after closing time (otherwise too noisy) but even after all night open and frost outside room was still too hot. They even had installed a portable amd noisy air-conditioning unit to cool room down. Why not save the planet, lots of money and aggro and insulate the hot tank?

The location is extremely convenient, as it's only a couple-minutes walk to one of the most central parts of Bury St. Edmunds. The room is comfy and the bathroom renovated and spacious.

The UK is not used to needing air-conditioning, but with higher temperatures each year, all places that offer accommodation should start considering adding means of cooling down. We visited on two especially-hot-for-the-season days, and with the sun hitting the room - which would have been heavenly in the winter - there were times where it felt a bit stifling, even with the window open.

Wow! My first trip to England & Bury St Edmunds! Brimming with country English charm. Very old building with modern bathrooms. Located in the center of stores, coffee shops, Cathedral and gardens. Very walkable and friendly. Traditional English breakfasts, delicious and filling, set for the day! Great pub and the Sunday Roast is phenomenal! Don't miss! The manager & her staff were so accommodating, friendly and fun to share stories! I will return to The Bushel!
