Our stay here was definitely one to remember. The hotel itself is good and is 2-3min away from Ammos beach where the water is always calm and great for kids, 5 minutes away from the salty lake and touristy streets. The view from the balcony is straight to the marina. But the main highlight were the hosts. The hotel is a familiy business and the owners were truly amazing: They welcomed us with free drinks and traditional greek music (see this: http://u.pc.cd/JS ). They opened up a small chappel next to the hotel which is closed to the public most of the year for us to visit They offered us great advice around places to visit, restaurants and shops We have 2 small kids and they were really kind towards them, giving them candy and toys On our last day they personally took us to a remote monastery on top of a hill which showcased an important icon of the Virgin Mary, a breathtaking view of the coast and a historical tour as it was one of the strongholds of the Greek independece warriors. The monastery was 35 min away by car and closed to the public but again, they got us in. Probably the best hosts I ever met and a great hotel, can’t recommend it enough!

Nectaria gave us a very personal welcome with drinks and shared her local knowledge. We had the Superior Sea View room with a fantastic view and comfortable beds. Close to parking and services. If you can parallel park it’s free! No problems with the heatwave - 38c

We were in a sea view Apartment which was very clean and comfortable and the balcony and view were lovely. Mantraki is ideally located in town close to the lake, marina and all shops and restaurants, but on a very quiet street. We didn't cook (I'm on holiday!!!) But the kitchen was well equipped to make basic meals if we had wanted. We appreciated the full clean and sheets/towel changes every 3 days. Maria and Costas are wonderful hosts and the staff that work with them are friendly and helpful. We enjoyed an evening of music and raki along with some of the other guests on our first night which was lovely. We stayed for 2 weeks and it was clear many of the other guests we saw during our stay were return customers which says a lot. We had the most fantastic holiday and were very glad we booked to stay at Mantraki, it was perfect.

The sea view from the balcony, with a huge bougainvillea on one side, was beautiful. The decor is decidedly 1970s, but everything works exactly as it should. Nice big fan in the bedroom (with attractive view as well). Very welcoming host, who provided an excellent restaurant recommendation and a leaflet with all sorts of tips, including a beautiful coastal walk in Ayios Nikolaos. I took the host's advice and ate at the seafood restaurant called "Faros", right by the beach (lovely walk there and back along the sea front) - excellent. Nearest place to park is at the bottom of the road up to the hotel for 4 Euros a day (or for free at the Marina); from the 4 Euro car park it's a 3-minute walk up to the hotel. I wouldn't hesitate to stay at the Mantraki again. (Incidentally, if you are at all interested in archaeology, visit the Archaeological Museum: it's exemplary.)

It was a real pleasure to spend a week at Mantraki Hôtel . Located in a quiet area, but close to many restaurants, and shops, not far away from the salt lake and the pretty beach "Amnos". Maria and Costas, the owner are frendly and treat us as their own family. A detailed map is given to us, with all information to know the best places of Agios Nikolaos. Maria and Costas are kind and authentic greek couple. I will never forget their hospitality. I will never forget the authentic greek music we had one evening in the lobby. It was a magical evening. this property owned by a very nice and helpful couple. they are not only give welcome drinks to the guests, they also give the guests a lots of useful information about this area and restaurants. those information made our visit to Agiou Nikolaos much easier. the location of this apartment was great. one can easily walk to everywhere in town. the apartment was very clean, spacious and it with 3 balconies! we didn’t drive. so they drive us to the bus station when we leave for Heraklion. it was very kind of these nice hosts.

Location is excellent, 3 minutes walk to the city Beach and 5 minutes to the center of Agios Nicholaos which is small but offers various interesting contents for tourists. Room was excelent, and the most important the stuff are very proffesional and in the same time very kind and helpfull. You feel like you are at your home

This place is runned and managed by two most beautiful, generous people I've met in Crete. Hospitality is beyond amazing. The views from the apartment are fabulous, and the location is right in the centre of Agios Nicolaos. I'll be back for sure.

A family business with extremely friendly, warm and helpful service. The localization is perfect and the apartments are quite comfortable. But the most valuable aspect are the owners - Maria and Kostas - who really put their heart to make your stay comfortable & exceptional. Since they are also artists performing traditional greek music, we've been invited for a concert in the hotel's lobby. Really nice experience that would be long remembered. They were also very helpful with showing us around the city and places to visit nearby. The terraces are very nice with cozy suspended seats and views on the sea&port (if you'll have a room from this side). The kitchens are well-equipped so you can be self-sufficient. A small, quite rugged parking is also available.

Pay attention to the setting of each room: most of them have bedroom & saloon separated and are equiped with only one air conditioner (of older date hence a bit loud) in either of the rooms. The design & equipment are old-fashioned yet still functional and cozy.
