This is a gem of a hotel. Great value. The bar was buzzing with locals when we arrived on the Saturday afternoon which created a smashing atmosphere. The staff were all very accommodating; the food was very good and great value (so was the price of alcohol compared to drinking in the Midlands). We couldn't hear any noise from the bar after we went to our room; the town centre was exceptionally quiet all night and very little traffic passed through. Moffat is a smashing market town. We will visit again and stay longer. Thank you to all who made our stop over so pleasurable.

Stayed at the Balmoral Hotel a few times now and we always have a great stay. Jane and all her staff are all very friendly and are all excellent at doing their jobs. Even the locals who use the bar don't hesitate to have a chat to you. The rooms are clean and very large. The breakfast was as excellent as usual and we had all our evening meals at the hotel and they were all very good and very reasonably priced. We stayed with friends this time (their first stay at the Balmoral) and they said if they are ever in Moffat again they would stay here. We hope to stay here again later in the year. Thank you all for a great stay again! 😊

Having to leave!!?

We could have stayed at many other places in this town but luckily we picked this one. We booked one of the two cabins at the back of the pubs courtyard, beautiful garden setting. The cabin has a lounge and kitchen downstairs, and two bedrooms and bathroom upstairs. No kitchen equipment = I suspect they’re no longer content to clean after lazy people. But there’s coffee/tea making facilities, and they left an abundance of quality biscuits, chocolates and drinks in the fridge. We felt very welcome and appreciated. We had dinner in the pub and were very happy with the food and service. The breaded fish was the best I’ve had in GB. Yep - I know that’s a big statement. Breakfast was great too, a good selection and well cooked. Everything is easy here. And free street parking right outside.

Nothing not to like about this hotel stay. Highly recommended in a town full of competition.

room 5 attic level up 40 stairs opened the door wellworth the climb panoramic view of town and surrounding hills was a wonderful sight room spacious with settee and coffee table little treats of chocolates in a dish teapot for 4 ample coffee and teabags and a fridge stocked with bottled water bottles of coke and ample fresh milk in a jug two fans for hot weather bed very comfortable room was better than some 5star hotels food first class breakfast spot on a definite return viset on the cards

Excellent place to stop on my way up to northern Scotland. I loved all the little extra touches - the jug of milk, bottle of water and coke in the fridge, the mini chocolates, teapot, heated towel rail in the bathroom. Having breakfast included was a big plus!

A little more attention from the staff when I arrived would have been appreciated. The pub downstairs was very busy at the time so I think they were a bit rushed. Thankfully I was there on a chilly Sunday evening, otherwise I think it would have been very loud from patrons in the garden. I couldn't find a WiFi code (maybe I missed something in an email, and I didn't ask anyone). The mug in my room could have been a little cleaner.

Easy to find, easy to check in/out. Room spacious and comfortable, with a lounge area included. Very comfortable bed, I think it was king sized. Good en suite shower room, shower temperature and flow adjustable. Staff nice and friendly. Great range of beers and spirits in the friendly bar downstairs. Good value food for evening meal. Plenty of choice for breakfast. Would go again.

Couldn’t get wifi working, staff member helped me with that. One window wouldn’t close, but it was very warm weather, so that didn’t bother me. Carpet could have done with a more thorough vacuuming, but the bed and the bathroom were spotless and that’s most important. I read a review before booking that the hotel could provide secure/private parking for a motorcycle, so I requested this when booking. I had an acknowledgement that they could accommodate this request, however upon arrival, I could park the bike in the tunnel that provides access to the beer garden round the back, but I couldn’t lock the bike to anything secure and it could be seen from the road. However, at least it was off the main road, so not so easily seen. Does not accommodate dogs in the bedrooms.

Location was great right in the centre of Moffat. Parking directly outside the hotel. Checking in and out was super easy and quick. Onsite restaurant which was busy and the food looked very appetising, unfortunately I had already eaten however I will definitely try next time I visit. My room was a single overlooking the hotel gardens, there was everything you could need and more provided - tea coffee, sugar, hot chocolate, biscuits and a bowl of chocolates. The mini fridge had water coke and a small jug of fresh milk A nice big flat screen TV, ample draw space and wall hooks with plenty of hangers. The reclining chairs was a nice touch to relax and watch TV. Large radiator which I had complete control of so the room temperature was just how I like it. The bathroom was spacious with plenty of towels and soap, the shower was easy to use and the shower gel and shampoo were good quality. Over sink shelf with mirror shaving socket. and light. Breakfast was excellent and so many options available, I went for a full breakfast which was really tasty and they do not skimp on the portion sizes also included toast fruit, orange juice, and dried cereal. Staff are superb friendly and welcoming .

The hotel is lovely but a little tired here and there, however this did not impact on my stay at all and I can't wait to return. I would have liked to have had a mirror in the bedroom area, it looked like one had been there at some point maybe it was damaged and yet to be replaced.

On arrival, I found I'd lost my bank card (I'd lost it just before leaving Devon for Moffat and hadn't realised). I explained the situation to the lovely young chap behind the bar and asked if my son could pay over the phone on my behalf. Due to a glitch this wasn't possible, but they still allowed me to stay, have breakfast - served by an equally understanding and kind young woman - and then leave for the Morvern Peninsula, trusting that payment would be made online upon my arrival at my son's house several hours later. I'd have been completely up the creek without a paddle had they not been so accommodating as I had relatively little cash on me at the time. I can't thank them enough.

There was nothing not to like, even Moffat itself is a pretty little place. Staff lovely, room had everything I needed and more. Can't complain at all.

The staff were very friendly and made us feel welcome. The bowl of sweets in the room was a nice touch. The bar food is good, nothing fancy but well made with good size portions. The full Scottish breakfast which was included in the room rate was excellent.

The room furnishings in our room were a little tired, a couple of vanes missing from the blinds and no curtains meant the windows aren’t fully covered, not great when the room looks out onto the main Street! The shower was clean but when inside with the doors closed it looked like the bits behind the doors have been missed.

My wife and I stayed in one of the cottages , was very quiet and peaceful at night . The cottage was very clean and bed very comfortable . Plenty of tea , coffee and bickies , little fridge with bottled water , jug of milk and little bottles of coke ( which were replaced everyday ) also bowl of sweeties ( refilled every day ) and a box of chocies for us on arrival . We were able to park on the street at the front door of the hotel which was handy . Breakfast each morning in hotel was freshly cooked and very tasty . If we were visiting that part of Scotland in the future this is the 1st place we would be looking to book .

Nothing we didn't like about our stay just a suggestion for the hotel cushions for the sofa would have been good as i have arthritis and although the sofa was comfortable , i found it hard to get up again after sitting down as it is low .
