The location is very good, and the hotel itself gives you a real sense of history.

I didn’t like the breakfast at all , there was no variety, which was disappointing. What made things worse is that only hotel cars are allowed to drive up to the hotel entrance. We were not informed about this in advance, so upon arrival our driver had to stop at the entrance of the old city, and we had to walk to the hotel with all our luggage. This was really inconvenient and not the kind of experience we expected. Also, there is no spa at the hotel, which was surprising given the category of the place.

The Hotel is a beautifully restored old palace inside the medieval Mdina city walls. Having breakfast on the rooftop high above the city walls you have a great view over the island. Our room itself did not have a view, but was huge on two levels and was beautifully decorated with antiques. Staff was very friendly. Breakfast (a la carte) offered a distinct local flair with Ftira bread, olive oil, local cheeses. We had dinner one of evenings at the Michelin restaurant at the Hotel, which was a great experience. The old town of Mdina is very busy during the day with tourists, but is great to take a stroll in the evening when we the alleys calmed down.

We went off-season, so room rates were OK. During holidays rates are a lot higher. Of course, that does not take away from the charm and the experience.

Mdina is my favourite location in Malta. To sleep in a palace within its walls was a dream come true. To be able to experience the sheer beauty of the silent city while staying in luxury accommodation was very special. The building and decor are outstanding. All staff were very sweet, professional and discreet.

It is an expensive accommodation - it is in an exclusive location however and it is to be expected. Perhaps a few inexpensive complimentary items in the room such as refreshments would be appreciated by guests. I would prefer this to the turn down service which was lovely but unecessary for me. Water is provided. I knew that my room would likely be on two levels as I had researched online, however perhaps it should be pointed out to guests prior to booking. Lack of view which can't be helped. I was able to negotiate the spiral staircase to the upper level, however anyone with mobility issues would find the stairs difficult to manage.

We enjoyed every minute of our stay at the Xara Palace. Great location in an authentic luxurious building, decorated with respect its history. The room was impeccable and provided great comfort with outstanding beds. The breakfast was exquisite, being served in the restaurant overlooking the great landscape. We had dinner at the Medina restaurant, affiliated to the hotel and situated in the center of Medina. A great spot with excellent Maltese food. All staff were great, but special thanks to Matthias from front desk who has been really authentic in making our stay such a great memory.

We loved our stay here! Everyone was so kind, helpful and friendly, from the welcome drink upon our arrival to helping get our luggage to our car after checkout, everyone went above and beyond. The chateau itself is so peaceful and charming, we enjoyed a lovely tea in the courtyard. It was also very special to see the restaurant staff get to place their new 2025 Michelin star plaque over the previous 2024 plaque. We had a lovely stay in a very comfortable and elegant room. We hope to return one day! Thank you so much!

Old palace located within Mdina walls. The suite was on 2 floors but a bit outdated. I had high expectations that unfortunately were not matched. We chose the place for a special occasion. My partner tried to contact the hotel in order to arrange some decorations, unfortunately the client service was not great. He had to send emails and called several times. When we checked in no appropriate treats were in place. Finally, the manager came to apologize. Unfortunately, not the service we had expected from a 5 star hotel.

Great house keeping staff, incredible views and breakfast. We had a hot tub with our room and it made the trip. The location was exceptional - we also used the chauffeur which made us feel really special (I would highly recommend you use this service)

We had our safe sounding from 4am, and the staff didn't compensate us in anyway for the worst night sleep I've had in a long time. We were really disappointed by the poor customer service.

Everything is excellent in this hotel - actually beyond excellent! It is the second time I have stayed here and I will reiterate what I said in last year's review. The hotel's biggest asset is its very attentive and charming staff - be it housekeeping, restauration or reception! That besides the historical location and the grandeur and classical beauty of the hotel itself make for an excellent quite and stressless getaway on an otherwise very busy and noisy island :-). We also adored the view over the valley from our room - Stunning!!

There is nothing we didn't like. We loved absolutely everything!

Mdina is called 'The Silent City' and when you stay at the Xara you not only understand why but you also appreciate why. You are not surrounded by loud bar music or crowds of people or car beeping horns etc., The Zara is located within the walled city and on the highest hill. It's in a GORGEOUS location. The hotel arranged for a taxi to collect us from the airport, and after a short time we arrived at the hotel. The lobby, the balconies, the terraces are simply beautiful. Upon our arrival, the LOVELY Diana welcomed us with a glass of Prosecco, explained all about the hotel then showed us to our room. The original room we had booked was lovely but then Diana explained that there was an upgrade available if we wanted to check that out. We did, and room 14 was the room we chose. When I tell you the VIEW from the terrace was just JAW DROPPINGLY STUNNING, know that I am not exaggerating. You see practically the whole country! The room was large, clean and well stocked with coffee/tea/water etc., The bathroom was large with a bath and walk in shower and again, stocked with shampoos/body wash etc., On the terrace we also had a hot tub which, after a day of sight seeing was just lovely to be in, watching the night sky and the lights of the towns around. If you get the option when booking, definitely get a terraced room! There is a restaurant attached to the entrance of the hotel which is very convenient and the service and food was GREAT! We ate breakfast in the upstairs restaurant twice and both times ate something different and both times, the food was really good and the staff could not be more helpful! There are also a few other bars/restaurants within the city which is not even a 5 minute walk from the hotel. There are cathedrals, museums and a couple of other shops too within the city. SO convenient. If I could rate this more than a ten out of ten I would.

Beautiful location, gives you the opportunity to see Mdina by its beautiful streetlights in the evening once the crowds go, and in the morning. The rooms are beautiful, and the palace it is in is stunning. The staff could not be more helpful, and the picnic they prepared for a day we had out on a boat was beautiful. De Mondion is not to be missed!
