Breakfast was very good and not expensive. There were cold items, juices, toast, fresh fruits, croissants, coffee and tea on the buffet plus a good quality hot, plated meal made to order. Both full English and vegetarian full breakfasts were pleasing. The room was a decent size with a good thermostatic shower in the en-suite, with just a small step into the shower..

The car parking cost £3 extra, though I am aware that some hotels charge somewhat more. A couple of items were due some minor maintenance, e.g. shower control knob missing a piece although it did not affect operation, also I had to switch off the room phone as I couldn't stop it blinking a red light. The TV channels are in a nonsensical order, making it hard to find even the BBC and ITV channels. Just minor points really and it would not put me off staying again.

Another little gem uncovered! Stifford Hall Hotel is an absolute delight. The building itself is stunning, and the rooms are beautifully presented – you really feel like you've stepped back in time. There's a real charm to the place that makes it stand out. The staff were brilliant – polite, professional, and couldn’t do enough to help. It makes such a difference when people genuinely care about your stay. The bar and restaurant are both lovely spots to relax in. The food was tasty and reasonably priced, with a good range of options – well worth dining in. Highly recommend if you’re in the area – or even passing through. A peaceful, character-filled stay that’s definitely worth a visit.

Breakfast was good. Location was excellent for Tilbury Cruise port. Dinner was good although the restaurant was a little devoid of atmosphere but service was fast and efficient. All the staff were friendly and helpful and it was very convenient for Lakeside shopping centre as well as Tilbury Cruise port which is just what we wanted. Room was clean and comfortable. It was a lovely sunny day so the outside garden was a nice place to sit and have a drink and outside service was efficient. There was also a large bar with TV if it was wet. There was plenty of parking on site.

We had to ask about parking and it wasn’t obvious what you needed to do but easy when explained. We got slightly lost finding the correct turn into the hotel.

Reception and all rounders Monica, Deana, Mel made our stay - and all the other ladies. Housekeeping were excellent - thank you Dawn for the amazing towel birthday cake and 70 roses Thanks Kathy - breakfast was absolutely great - thank you to chef - such good food. Such a friendly and relaxing atmosphere. Would recommend to anyone - all the staff was friendly and welcoming - nothing was too much trouble. A perfect stay in a hotel Thank you all - Dan & Teresa

The lamps around the bedrooms are great but wouldn’t mind a brighter light in the bedroom - but very comfortable and spacious rooms

Afternoon tea and dinner were both great, though I would have like fewer sandwiches and more pastries for the afternoon tea. The dining room/restaurant did feel a bit industrial, more like a canteen than a cosy restaurant, but it was fine and the service was excellent.

It would have been nice to have some drawers in the room as it wasn't possible to put anything away out of sight, but fine for one night. The duvet was far too warm but that's the same in every hotel these days - bedding that can be separated would be more comfortable than a choice of sweltering beneath a too-thick duvet or being too cold with no cover at all.

The staff were so lovely and helpful. I ended up accidently booking a single room instead of a double and when I contacted the hotel It was instantly sorted for me. The hotel is lovely and the room was clean with good facilities and a good size. I ate at the bar and the service and food was excellent. Breakfast has a good selection and the hot food was prepared fresh to order. Poached eggs were perfect! Value for money was very good. The garden area was a lovely place to sit and read a book/relax, as well as the little library just off reception. Wifi was good and reached all the areas I went in the hotel.

A fridge in the rooms would be a nice addition and there weren't any sanitary/plastic bags free. The TV was a good size but the sound was quite "tinny"

Staff were lovely and very obliging. Very nice bathroom. Good breakfast. Comfortable bed.

Problem with card machine meant we had no key to our room. There appeared to be a space in the layout of the room for an item of furniture that wasn't there - an armchair or a table perhaps. The design on the carpet makes it look worn and threadbare. The sandwiches we ordered on room service were delicious, as were the chips, but there was no sign of the salad garnish mentioned on the menu.

Premier Inn and Travelodge adhere to a standardized template for their rooms, ensuring basic needs are consistently met, including amenities like body wash. Stifford Hall follows a similar approach, ensuring value is maintained. If you're accustomed to the facilities style of PL or TL, you'll find familiarity here. However, where Stifford Hall truly distinguishes itself is in its historic main building. Dating back to the eighteenth century, it exudes charm and character, impeccably maintained over the years. The dining experience at Stifford Hall is nothing short of exceptional. The spacious and tastefully appointed dining room sets the stage for a delightful culinary journey. The food itself is not only delicious but also presented with meticulous attention to detail. From the moment we stepped into Reception, the staff made us feel welcomed and valued. Their attentiveness and eagerness to assist were evident at every interaction. Moreover, the room staff ensured that all our needs were promptly met, contributing to an overall seamless and enjoyable stay. It's clear that the dedication and professionalism of the entire team, from dining to reception to housekeeping, significantly enhance the guest experience. We hope that the management acknowledges and appreciates the positive impact their staff's efforts have on guests. Stifford Hall has undoubtedly become our preferred choice whenever we visit Thurrock.

Nothing.

You can't fault the staff at this hotel. A great team, smiley and helpful. One or two of them have greeted us for years, it's always nice to catch up with them. Breakfast was nice as usual, and the older historic front of the hotel is the perfect setting. Rooms were basic but comfy, shower could do with an upgrade. Quiet and had a decent night sleep.

As previously commented, the rooms and halls are looking tired and are in need of an upgrade. Which is exactly what is happening! The hotel is going through a refurbishment as we speak, so can't wait to see the shiny new rooms later this year. The current rooms are a bit grubby.
