The central location with free parking was perfect for us to spend a weekend in Maldon to attend a wedding. A lovely hotel, our room was fabulous with a spacious bedroom and a bathroom with a bath and separate shower. Woken by the sound of church bells - the church is located opposite the hotel, we loved hearing the bells on Saturday morning! (No need to set the alarm!). Wonderful freshly cooked full English breakfast, with a choice of eggs and toast, coffee and tea. Staff were all very pleasant and helpful. Would highly recommend.

For us, the bed was a bit too soft - that's just personal preference.

We loved the location. Our room (17) looked out onto a church and we enjoyed hearing the bells striking the time - fortunately the bells were quiet for most of the night and the hotel had even provided earplugs in case the sound became too intrusive which it certainly didn't for us. The room was well equipped - chairs, sofa, coffee machine, kettle, good quality tea, coffee and biscuits. The bathroom was great - free standing double-ended bath, plus separate shower. There was even a chandelier. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfasts were good, although I was surprised no fruit was available.

For us, the mattress was too soft. That may be because it's due for an upgrade or may just be a personal preference thing but the stretch up to reach things on the bedside table was significant for a shorter person!

Friendly and helpful staff, very nice breakfast. They also had a small circa 1500 bar with a cosy fire and old Stags heads and wild boar trophies on the walls. It took you right back to that those times, they also had a good selection of real ales etc/… Location was fine, especially as it was very cold when we visited Maldon and it was an only short walk to a good selection of restaurant. The Sark Turkish restaurant was exceptional. If you wanted good food and cheap drinks, across the road is a Witherspoons pub called the Rose and Crown which was excellent value for money. We only stayed for two days so couldn’t sample all of the eateries. Before we left we visited the riverside where a lot of barges are moored up, then finally stopped at the combined services museum. It’s £8.50 entry fee but has so many exhibits it was well worth it. Altogether a very pleasant short stay, we will probably come back again in the summer.

A classic old English inn location. Full of character, beautiful building, lovely stay in classic English historical style. Just a few yards off Maldon’s lovely High Street and therefore very close to all restaurants, quaint shops and an easy walk to the waterfront and promenade. Staff were friendly, helpful and very efficient and the whole place was spotlessly clean. We will be staying again next time we overnight in Maldon.

Nothing - unfortunately we didn’t have time to visit the bar which looked very inviting - but our stay was great and we have no complaints.

The building, the staff, the breakfast and the location. We enjoyed the Tap room as it had the feel of pubs in years gone by, no tv or loud music.

Our bed was a bit small to what we are used to. I suppose I should have booked a twin room. Personally I prefer a proper shower as opposed to one in the bath. As one ages climbing in and out can become a problem. Breakfast could be extended for another hour for those that enjoy more time in bed when on vacation.

Nice little bar with lots of outside space ( courtyard and garden areas ) The staff are really friendly and accommodating. The breakfast was perfectly acceptable ( yoghurts and cereal selection followed by full English or any combination of items, kippers also available all served with tea/coffee and toast ) There is no evening meal availability but the hotel is situated in the centre of town with a wide range of pubs and eateries within easy walking distance.

As it is an old coaching inn the rooms on the upper floors might cause a problem for anyone with mobility issues but there are ground and 1st floor rooms so just specify a preference when booking.

The breakfast was good. Small choice but perfectly adequate. Nice service. Allowed our son who wasn't staying in the hotel to breakfast with us which was much appreciated. Loved the coffee machine in our room and the nice biscuits. Good shower. Fab building, oldey, worldly. Would be great for any foreign tourists wanting to experience a bit of traditional England! Great location. Easy walking everywhere! About 10mins down to the harbour.

Loved the bathroom, fabulous bath, large shower and twin basins with extra mood lighting. Comfortable large bed. On site parking right in the town. Helpful staff.

Needed to use electric heater as radiators not working. Breakfast choices very limited and staff had to multitasking across breakfast service and Reception. No-one present on Reception even at 8pm. Got a parking penalty ticket even though the details of our car were entered onto the their system by a staff member.

nicely laid out and good prompt service. Absence of fruit was regrettable though there was variety in the drink, cold and hot food on offer.

Impossible to understand system for coffee in the bedroom: no explanation for how to work machine. To our shame, we couldn't be bothered to ask though!

Charming olde world former 14th century coaching inn which was full of character. In excellent position situated just off the high street. Very helpful staff. No lift, but young man at reception immediately offered to carry cases upstairs. Free guest parking. Delicious well cooked full English breakfast. Comfortable room with large modern bathroom. The only downside pillows were a bit hard for me but overal that is a minor point.
