This place is an absolute gem if you love history and want to stay in a place full of character - I couldn't stop looking at the place and discovering more and more fabulous details the more I looked. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others for those reasons. The staff were so friendly and happily sat to chat to us about the ghosts and history and their personal experiences of working in the building.

We got down to breakfast and were warned off by other guests who had been waiting ages. They said once breakfast came if was lovely but their was a lot of chaos with orders being wrong and the huge wait times. I think the staff were doing their best but couldn't cope with the quantity of people and tasks they had to cover. They were under staffed and struggling through no fault of their own. They needed a couple more team members which would have made everything work smoothly. Maybe kitchen needs help too. If this was fixed I can imagine this place could be the best place in Gloucester to stay.

Fabulous and beautiful ancient premises, if you enjoy history. Actually unique in the UK, probably the best preserved medieval coaching inn in Britain - well worth researching the fascinating history. Very nice old world bar vibe and 80s music. Nothing modern here, but clean rooms and very pleasant to come back to. Room was wood panelled, very appropriate and cosy. The city cathedral is perhaps the most fairytale and charming of all in Britain.

Gloucester is quite a rough town with a lot of addicts, screaming and drunkness/drug use in the street, night and day. We heard plenty from our room.

Excellent location, right next to all the shops, 5 minute walk from the cathedral. Beautiful historic building with plenty of character. The inn is rumoured to be haunted, which adds to the ambience. Some interesting features, e.g. one of the rooms I stayed in had a pentagonal bathroom door. Lovely pub downstairs. Rooms cleaned well, staff friendly.

The standard rooms aren't as nice as the outside of the building or the beautiful pub downstairs - stained wallpaper, boring furniture, etc. They could be improved by leaning into the historic heritage, e.g. getting some antique furniture and nicer lampshades, and removing or updating the wallpaper. The biggest issue was the plumbing, the water in the shower was either freezing or boiling, the radiators were difficult to regulate, always too hot. A great experience nonetheless.

room was spacious, the building was beautiful, steeped in history. located in the centre of the city and only a short walk to the beautiful revamped docks. good food just a long wait to get it. the build your own breakfast is a fabulous idea.

the decor needed a freshen up. holes in the wall had tissue jammed in them instead of being filled and painted. the sign outside the window screeched all night in the wind. the breakfast service in the morning was unbelievably poor. other guests left without having the meal they had paid for as it took so long. we only just got out in time for check out as it took over 45 minutes for the breakfast to arrive.

My room was on the first floor overlooking Northgate. There were crowds of shoppers and a few noisy people walking past during the day, but it was still enjoyable to people watch as they wandered by. At night, the street was deserted. The hotel is in the middle of Gloucester and well placed for the Cathedral and other historical sites. The hotel itself is a galleried coaching inn and is a truly splendid building in tis own right. I stayed in Gloucester for the one night. I went sighting-seeing during my frirst day there and on the second day caught a bus (40 minutes) to Cheltenham for another day's sight-seeing there before returning home.

I stayed on a Monday night. The bar in the hotel was a little deserted which was a shame, but I suppose many bars are on Mondays.

As a history nerd, I loved staying in a place with so much history! If you are looking for a modern hotel, this place is not for you. It was built in the 1500s, so this place has history, ghost stories, crooked floors, thin hallways, and a TON of character. It is a unique stay with links to the story of Lady Jane Grey and you will be walking on stairs and down hallways that the Tudors walked down. It is super cool! The price was good, my room was quiet, the staff was friendly, our pub food was awesome! I would stay here again because it was a unique and lovely experience!

No A/C, but I mean, it was built in the 1500s, and usually you dont need A/C in England anyway. Our room had a fan, and we were still quite comfortable even though it was "hot for England".

From looking I wasn't sure what to expect but from going there you find a rustic tudor house transformed into a beautiful inn. With a bar open downstairs and food bring served it was comfortable and ideal. Noting that the noise was not an issue for me in going to sleep either and this was a Friday night. Whilst I didn't try the food, the facilities looked amazing and within the room there was a tv and kettle aswell as my own ensuite- all the essentials. I can say I have a special favoritism to the person who checked me in, he went out his way to ensure my things were safe and assisted me, he was also pretty cute an added bonus. All the staff I came across though were polite and friendly offering an amazing experience. I will 100% be returning in the future when I come back to Gloucester and will be recommending this to my friends and family.

Honestly there wasn't much I didn't like about the establishment. I'd just note that if you have a massive problem with stairs it's not for you- it depends on where you are and I just got unlucky in rooms (I booked 2 days before so the fault is my own).

I have stayed here before as the location is brilliant - right in the centre of Gloucester. Hotel room was very clean and comfortable although it was tired-looking. Hotel is under new management and improvements are being made. My room was on the second floor and stairs were very steep - previously I have been on the first floor which I would prefer. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful - one took my case down the stairs for me when she saw me struggling.

I would prefer to be on the first floor and thereby avoid the steep staircase. However it is a 15th century coaching inn and so steep stairs are to be expected.

Lovely building built in the 1400s, loads of character and architecture to soak up. Haunted by Lady Jane Gray, but we didn't see or hear anything this time round. Great breakfasts and a well stocked bar. Rooms spacious and functional, some of the mattresses are sprung and noisy (mine was fine. Also worthy of note, biker friendly with courtyard locked at night. Very good reasonably priced menu. Well worth a visit and stay.

Some beds have noisy sprung mattresses not that comfy(mine was OK) Decor tired in places

The building is amazing, it’s massive with so much history. The gallery is stunning and the place has so much character. It’s in a great location, very close to everything and easy to find. The staff were lovelyX breakfast was nice. The room was massive and the end was the best bed I’ve slept in in a long time.

The only thing I’d say would be if you are staying at the weekend and are a lighthouse sleeper bring some ear plugs. They have live music and karaoke in the and downstairs, we knew this before we booked so it wasn’t a problem. My partner went downstairs and joined in. The building is incredibly old so it isn’t immaculate or perfect, but that is what made it special.
