Our room had an amazing ocean view, the facilities were spotless clean. The staff were professional and welcoming. Breakfast was exceptional, a lot of choices, everything was tasty and fresh. Good location to go to the beach on foot, rooftop swimming pool was also very nice.

Very weird service system where you have to pay extra for the smallest thing, made us feel like the hotel wanted to "sort" their clients. They operate like a low-cost airline where you have to pay extra for obvious things. Zero intimacy in bathroom/toilet facilities : you have an almost transparent glass door which doesn't isolate any sound and you can perfectly see the person taking their shower right next to your bed. This can get really uncomfortable if you are not a couple.

The location of the hotel and the view from the pool is stunning. I also enjoyed the design efforts in the lobby and common space areas. There are enough opportunities to enjoy food and drink in the hotel. The best experience was the Bar on the roof, which is especially recommended if you want to enjoy the sunset with a nice cocktail. The hotel has a beach and a few outdoor pools where you can swim and relax.

Some of the furniture in the room was worn, which did not fit into a 5-star hotel quality, but there was more that bothered me. I think it has a negative message: when you, as a guest, feel at every step in the hotel, if you do not pay extra besides the 5-star price, you can not 'have the premium experience'. It was impossible to lay beside the pool on sunbeds, only if you paid an extra fee, the "premium experience." And they faced this strange opportunity everywhere, from the check-in desk to the elevators. I felt like a second-grade guest because I was not paying the extra/premium, which is a bit weird when you go to rest and think previously that you found the best opportunity to enjoy luxury in a 5-star hotel. It's at least not polite.

If you want a perfect experience in Madeira, the Saccharum hotel is by far the best choice you can make. Located approximately 35 km from Funchal, in Calheta, it offers an amazing view of the Atlantic Ocean and services worthy of its 5 stars. The room is very large, modern, with an enormous and very comfortable bed, and the balcony offers a superb view of the ocean. The entire hotel staff was very nice and professional. We appreciated the fact that our room was arranged twice every day, our towels were changed, and Lucy, the person who took care of our room, left us a small sweet gift on the bed every night. The breakfast is worthy of a 5-star hotel, extremely varied and with very good quality products. If we return to Madeira, Saccharum will definitely be our first choice! I warmly recommend this hotel!

I had an unforgettable experience at Saccharum! From the moment we arrived, the staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, making us feel right at home. The rooms are spacious, perfectly clean, and equipped with all the necessary amenities for a comfortable stay. The bed was extremely comfortable, and the view from the window was spectacular. The sound of the ocean calm me down. The hotel’s restaurant offers a diverse menu with delicious dishes, and the complimentary breakfast was abundant and varied, catering to all tastes. The spa is a wonderful place to relax. The Saccharum is a modern hotel decorate with a beautifully elements. I will definitely be back for more days! We love it so much!

The staff was amazing Monica would check in with us everyday twice a day. My husband and I both got a stomach bug the first day we arrived and she checked on us every step of the way.

Location, spa, pools and sun decks are all great. Rooms are cleaned not once but twice: morning and evening. Special thanks to the staff at reception who were incredibly nice and helped me arrange a transfer to Funchal on the day of the Flower Parade which I would have missed otherwise.

I didn't appreciate that the hotel's Fly bar that offers the best views on the ocean and the marina was booked for private events during both weekends that I was staying at Saccharum. Also, I wish the staff at the buffet restaurant were more attentive and friendly

Fantastic hotel with very interesting hedonistic design and layout with a luxury feel without being pretentious. The variety of facilities were excellent and the drinks, food and staff service were superb.

The luxury feel was tarnished on occasion due to the desperately poor parenting of two boys, where they were left to scream and run around the sun deck in amongst people trying to relax. During our stay, we found the children generally detracted from the hedonistic mission statement of the hotel. Even some of the adults were a detraction based on how they presented themselves at meals. One lady turned up to breakfast on multiple occasions in childish animal pyjamas, and so a dress code really needs to be enforced to maintain the higher end feel.

The hotel is very well located on the sunny South Coast. The building has been successfully designed with his historical past of a sugar cane factory in mind. Our room with balcony was really comfortable and we appreciated the turn down service. The pool area was lovely and so was the spa. We enjoyed making the most of the last rays of sunshine at the end of the afternoon.

Although the breakfast buffet was amazing, we ate in the pool side restaurant one night and were really disappointed. Our food took an hour to arrive and I was served stale tacos. We did not eat in the hotel again after that.

The hotel is beautiful, has great views and is in a great location. The staff was kind, helpful and the outdoors pool was just stunning. Very comfortable bed. We enjoyed the spa facilities, the restaurants, and the easy parking. All in all strongly recommended and we plan on coming back. We also got a nice gift on our arrival since it was our honeymoon, and the hotel gave us a free upgrade we didn't ask for, which was very thoughtful and appreciated .

Our room could have been better isolated for noise and smell (the occasional cigarette smell lingered there, and we heard our neighbors in adjacent rooms) Some room facilities could be better upkeeped. The outdoor pool would be perfect if they would warm the water a bit, since the water was cold during all hours of the day.

Beautiful hotel with a lovely rooftop garden. The Ocean Family Suites offer nice views, except for the last suite on the edge of the building. Initially, we were assigned that suite, which, although larger than the others, did not meet our expectations. The view was limited, mostly facing the mountain, and the room felt dark compared to the photos on Booking.com. On a positive note, the receptionist was very kind and accommodating. She immediately arranged for us to change rooms, and the new suite was much more comfortable, with the nice view. The breakfast and buffet dinner were very good and although we didn't plan to, we had buffet dinner almost every day of our stay.

The rooms are generally okay, but they lack the comfort and thoughtful design I would expect from a 5-star hotel at this price point. The family suites, in particular, have some odd design choices, such as open, transparent showers and toilets, which feel impractical. Small details like no place to hang your hand towels, etc. don't add comfort to your stay. Design is beautiful but it would also be nice to make it more functional.
