It's an adults-only hotel, so it's very quiet. If you want, you can chat with other guests, or you can just chill. The hotel is a dream. The rooms are spread across several houses built into the hillside. This means you have little contact with your neighbors. We had a beautiful terrace with a magnificent view. The infinity pool is a big highlight—but watching the sunset from the heated whirlpool is even better. There are enough loungers for everyone. The breakfast is phenomenal – the selection is rather small, but perfectly chosen. There is something for everyone. The staff is extremely friendly, and the owner speaks many languages, including German and French. The room has everything you need, including a mini kitchen with a kettle and refrigerator. In the bathroom, you can tell that a woman has furnished it – because everything is very thoughtfully arranged and selected. The Rituals products provided are also very good. We always found a parking space. It is important to note that there are still a few steps to climb after parking. The hotel does not have its own restaurant, but directly opposite there is a small, fine restaurant with a sea view where you can enjoy a good meal.

The only downside is that the cottages heat up quite a bit during the day. If you leave the windows open because of this, you can hear the night birds quite loudly. And the access road is typical for Madeira – steep and narrow. This can be challenging for inexperienced drivers, which sometimes caused long traffic jams.

We loved staying here. The pool and pool area was amazing, the views were incredible. Rooms were spacious, bright, clean and had stunning views. Breakfast was delicious. It's an incredible place and a real hideaway! Super relaxing, quiet and hidden away. The pool was amazing and the sunloungers and umbrellas were great.

The only thing we didn't like was the access to the accommodation. There is a popular waterfall on the same road and traffic can be a bit of a nightmare as it's a cul de sac so there can be a lot of cars trying to turn around and reverse on a narrow road. There is a big hill up to the parking area that requires a 3 point turn to get up. But once you're up there the parking situation is good and the views make it worth it.

One of the best experiences! My husband and I were absolutely delighted with the hotel and only regret that we stayed for just four days :) We had a spacious room with a private pool — a very peaceful and comfortable atmosphere. The hotel was quiet and calm. The staff and the owner were incredibly friendly. The breakfast was wonderful. For lunch and dinner, there’s a great restaurant just around the corner. We sincerely recommend this lovely hotel for relaxation, rest, and pure enjoyment!

I had a great experience at Escarpa - The Madeira Hideaway. Escarpa offers a fantastic location with stunning panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean and unforgettable sunsets. The infinity pool and tranquil surroundings create the perfect environment for relaxation after a day of exploring Madeira. Breakfast was fresh and delicious, and the dinner at the 90 Degrees restaurant was a highlight—truly amazing food, with friendly and helpful staff.

However, there was one downside: our room did not have conditioner, which was inconvenient, especially given how hot it was this week. This small detail would have made the stay perfect. Overall, it’s a lovely spot and I’d recommend it, with just a minor improvement in amenities.

Our 4 night stay in November at Escarpa was amazing. It was so peaceful. We had a villa with a pool which was private and relaxing. The pool, although on the cool side was delightful to dip in as the weather was warm to hot for our stay! The view are breath taking. And you are litearlly surrounded by banana plantation, the sky and views directly out to the sea. The stars at night are so clear as almost no light pollution !! We did not have a car so walked 20 minutes to Porto do Sol for one day for beach swimming and sunset drinks by the beach and cliff side and a meal in a local restaurant. We also walked the other way for a ssea dip and drinks and a meal. You walk under waterfalls each way which is such a beautiful site and experience. The staff were exceptional: friendly and attentive. We booked in early and were able to stay an hour after check out as we had an afternoon flight. much appreciated. We will be back !! :)

The pool and the view was amazing, the breakfast was great with lots of different options. the staff were extremely friendly and helpful.

no air conditioning in the rooms were a major downside in the stay, this would be okay in the cooler months but in summer when we were there sleeping was difficult, they provided a fan but it wasn’t adequate and our sleep was not the best because of the heat. the breakfast runs from 8am - 10:30am, and because of that we missed out on the breakfast on our final day since we needed to leave earlier. Also, between our apartment and the one next to ours there was no separation on the balcony, just a couple of plants, which felt a bit less private.

The sea view was absolutely incredible, as was the infinity pool, the location is perfect for watching the sun set. The comprehensive breakfast each morning was great. Proximity to the Cascata dos Anjos waterfall and Ponta do Sol is great. The hotel manager was very accommodating and keen to help, and the rooms are cleaned super quickly it's usually already made by the time we finish breakfast. Hotel is quiet so it feels very peaceful and spacious. Hot tub by pool is lovely for sun set.

Takes a while for the hot water to come through but given location it's understandable. The fan provided was too squeaky for the night but the temperature required it. Proximity to the Cascata dos Anjos waterfall does mean the road to the hotel can be crowded with cars.

The view over the ocean with the swimming pool was amazing. Big room , very quiet, lot of privacy. Breakfast in the morning was ok.

The owner very gently explained us that is not possible to put air conditioning in the room due to local rules which I fully understand but I have to admit that in the afternoon when the sun was hitting the huge window we had in our room it was a hot. (Maybe a different solution can be found) The curtains were a bit annoying and not easy to open and close. No mosquito net.

Beautiful view. Very clean rooms and amazing staff members. Breakfast was top notch. Property felt very secluded / private. The restaurant also ran by the property (90 degrees) was equally amazing! We ate there two nights and really enjoyed the service and meal! View was also amazing!

Limited air conditioning - didn’t make or break our stay, though. Still pleased with the property.

The rooms are really nice, amazing view at the ocean, very clean and modern. There have been a few issues initially but the staff was trying to present a solution to them immediately. All in all a great overall experience, we can definitely recommend it.

Our initial room was extremely hot with no AC installed. Due to that we were barely able to sleep at night because of the heat (the temperature in the room didnt fall below 32°C at night, despite opening all windows), but Petra reacted immediately and offered us another room, where it was way more comfortable. Other than that, we had no issues.
