The building has plenty of charm with its old fireplaces and spacious rooms. We booked the large double room, as it was the same price as a regular double, and really enjoyed the extra space. The mattress felt a little lumpy and could probably do with being replaced. The WiFi was not good in the room. There’s no AC, but a fan is provided, along with drinking water in the room. The bathroom was a great size, modern, and had excellent hot water and strong water pressure. Breakfast was a typical local style, served with both coffee and juice. There was some traffic noise, but much less than expected. The location is just a few blocks from the main walking street, lined with beautiful buildings and interesting shops.

Beautiful hotel in a historic building - especially nice ambiente from the inside, including a little patio to relax in after exploring Guatemala. A small but delicious breakfast is served in the morning. The center of zona 1 is within walking distance and during the day we felt safe. (Can't say anything about the safety at night as we didn't go out after dark.) The host was friendly and helpful and organized a taxi to an from the airport for us.

The vintage beds were squeaky and the mattresses worn out - the quality of sleep would improve a lot if they changed the old mattresses for new ones!

The house is beautiful and breakfast was delicious! I want to point out that Fernanda is a great host and she really helped me when a food delivery was delivered frozen! She gladly helped me heat it up and provided all the necessary utensils. She made me feel at home.

I didn’t like that the main owner seemed to have declined a different food delivery when they called her. She should be aware that her phone number is the one of the website and that she runs such a business people may be ordering food from delivery apps and one should not have to “let her know”

Casa Carmel is the perfect BnB for travelers who adore historic architecture, design, and comforts. It is beautifully appointed with Authentic Guatemalan art. The staff were amiable, warm & helpful and the gardens are well-maintained. It is a perfect place to get away from the hustle of the city once you are inside Casa's doors. I will be visiting again.

I think when i visited the BnB was under renovations, which the hosts were gracious about letting me know ahead of time. Seeing that this isn't a permanent problem, it would hardly be seen as a problem anyway. Lovely place!

Love the contrast between the city street and the serenity within the large front doors. The green garden courtyard, the beautifully buffed floors and the period furniture of this beautifully maintained large home took us back in time. Our room was comfortable and spacious and the shower was nice and hot. We able to walk out the door and be part of the early Easter (Samara Santa) parade. Magical.

Nothing. It’s located in zone 1 so be prepared for a city setting. Which is what we wanted.

A wonderful stay in a beautiful property. Highly recommended. Extremely close to all the important sites, delicious food imbued with love, elegant and exquisitely decorated and adorned super comfortable rooms, and superb staff that go above and beyond. A huge thank you to Sophie, Raul and Ana. So kind, welcoming and caring.Do not be foolish enough to consider staying anywhere else if you are ever staying in the capital! You will find a home from home here in this blessed haven.

Beautiful historic house with lovely breakfast area and living room - centrally located in Zona 1. Clean, well appointed, very helpful staff. A great place to relax and exhale. We very much enjoyed our stay here. Good breakfast prepared by our hostess Fernanda. General Manager Sophie was also very helpful with booking of cars to our next destination.

Only drawback was street noise - but this is what you get in city centre!

Twice we stayed at Casa Carmel, at the start and end of our travels in Guatemala. Honestly, it felt like returning home when we arrived the second time, knowing clean comfortable beds, good showers and reliable WIFI, friendly staff and a great breakfast awaited us. It's a charming colonial house, central location, impecably clean room - but it's the wonderful staff who make this place exceptional. Not only doing their jobs very professionally, they helped and supported us with great kindness as we encountered some difficulties on our trip.

Leaving was the only part we didn’t like.

Everything was more than expected. The room was super comfy and clean. The property which is a colonial mansion was old world meets modern expectations. The bathroom was great. with nice modern tile and shower. The staff was nice - always had a smile for us. Fernandina was very helpful. She cooks a great breakfast.

Had such a wonderful stay here. The hospitality and responsiveness of the host made my trip to Guatemala City literally seamless, from airport pickup to local recommendations. The bed and breakfast is very charming and a hidden gem. The rooms were clean, quiet and very comfortable. Not to mention the delicious complementary breakfast by the beautiful back garden was a wonderful finisher. Will definitely be back!
