Welcoming and very polite receptionist. Was offered a more suitable room on the first floor, with wonderful views of the bowling green and surrounding areas. There are no lifts available (well I couldn't see any) but that wasn't a problem for us, the flight of stair was small. The room was clean (some areas like around the light fittings and door could do with extra cleaning) and the bed, very comfortable. Welcome pack of tea/coffee/bottled water/biscuits (milk and sugar) Good choice of breakfast (charges applied) Hotel not far from local amenities. The hotel is slightly dated, but this did stop us enjoying our stay. No charge for parking.😊

Narrow bathroom, but not a real problem. The plug to the wash hand basin did not work. Window ledge in restaurant area could do with a wipe down. Nothing major to report

Always friendly and clean rooms

The rooms are starting to look tired . Been coming here every year for about 8 years now and the rooms are looking well used and needs a good touch up / fixing Shower hardly had any pressure , toilet roll holder was held on by one screw . Things just painted over instead of being replaced . Just needs a nice refurb of the rooms but everything else is brilliant and the staff are always friendly

Cosy room and a cosy bed which gave me 3 good nights of sleep. The provision of some teabags and digestive biscuits was nice (could have done with a couple more teabags however). The location is good (just a couple of mins from Morrisons by foot and has a Skylink stop nearby).

Small table that the kettle was on was a bit wobbly, and the TV remote did not appear to work (used buttons on the screen instead and that was fine).

Used as break of long journey Berwick to Bournemouth. This was half way. Once in immediate area , hotel was very well signposted. Excellent size car park. Room facilities excellent. Spotlessly clean. Fairly close to some pubs and restaurants.

Building had little character. Felt like three long rectangular boxes sandwiched together, the middle one having an enormous glass house type roof containing many lounge tables and chairs, also housing a small breakfast room and bar. I imagine this is a useful travelling business persons stopover with good transport links.

The service I received at the Hermitage was simply the best I've ever had at a hotel. The lady on reception that took my call about a late check in, was so friendly and reasuring, especially as I was trying to organise an arrival past midnight, due to my work. I actually ended up calling her twice, and I had such a good experience with her on the phone that I was completely reassured. Then when I actuially arrived at about 12.40am, after a long drive, I imagined the night receptionist not even being there, despite her reassurance he would be, but low and behold, he was just as friendly as the lady on the phone, and knew all about my late arrival situation. I was honestly so impressed, especially having come from a job in Birmingham that evening, where I was so disappointed by the service I had received at the event I was at. I never usually write these kind of reviews, but I was compelled to after those great interactions I had with the staff. The room was fine, a little cold as the window didn't shut properly, and it was pretty basic, but for me, when the service is that good, and you feel like the employees care about your stay, little things that aren't quite right don't matter at all.

I left my small backpack in the communal area . I was distracted trying to get internet connection so that Sat nav would work. I discovered I didn't have it at a service station . I panicked as it has vital medication. I don't let it out of.my sight. Thanks to the staff who saw it and who.kept it safe for me until I returned to collect it 4-5 hours later. I can't say how relieved I was. Thankyou very much.

There wasn't anything we didn't like

Pretty good facilities; basic, but did the job well. Quiet location, but not far from a Morrisons in one direction and town centre in the other. Comfy bed.

Walls are a bit thin. I came back from a night out at 2am and didn’t feel comfortable using the shower until the morning, as I felt that the people next door to me would hear it. A bit expensive for what it is.

The staff were lovely, and breakfast was good.

Though the room was clean, there was a lot of black mould in the bathroom, not visible at first, but it was in the grout and around the edges of the bath. If I had not had a bath, I would not have noticed that or the fact that the overflow drain was particularly grubby.

Food was ok

The bar was dire hardly any stock crap beers on tap Carlsberg some awful cider and something from Cubria tasted like it was made from Coniston water, Get some decent beers on tap Stella Artois Kronenberg 1664 Heineken Extra they are decent beers otherwise people will visit the pub across the rd

it started with a very warm welcome when I arrived, then the room was value for money, and the breakfast was great (asked the night before about time I wanted to eat and what I would like), was there for 7am and breakfast was ready for 7.05. Would say to anyone who wants a quiet and relaxing stay to book.
