The Surprise of the 16th Century Bedroom suite I was given for the night ‘blew me away’…. With a king size four poster bed that was sumptuous and sleep rendering, leather inlaid desk, glass screened wall section exhibiting the original decorative paintwork, sitting area with leather suite, smart en-suite , well heated with 2 radiators and a jaw dropping view of the church and cemetery was the absolute highlight of my trip ! The room and En suite was spotlessly clean. The Hotel is a credit to the architect in his /her adoption of its age to its beautiful furnishing and to its ‘spot on’ professional staff.

The architecture of the building, garden and location were outstanding. The room was much bigger than we expected. Great size TV and bracket. Staff were very helpful as I knocked my ankle at the local spa and she kindly got me a tub of ice from the bar at my request. We also accidentally missed the check-out time and the staff didn’t complain or charge us. There was free parking and the location was so central and so close to Thetford town. We drove up the road and were lucky to be able to access council parking and so walk around the town of Thetford which was very pleasant. The price was great and we were really impressed - thank you very much. :)

The toilet was continually expelling water as if it had been flushed when we got there, and the amount increased each time we used this. My partner said he didn’t sleep very well due to the mattress springs and hard pillows which I found as well. The only other thing was that I read the hotel provided toiletries but this was only hand soap so it was luck I had packed this as my partner hadn’t as I said not to. As a suggestion, maybe this could be included on your/booking.com’s website?

The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The food in the bar was great, and so was breakfast, which was also good value for money. The bar had a nice atmosphere. On-site parking.

The room was tired and in desperate need of redecorating, as the décor is very dated. The bathroom is also in need of a good update with a modern shower and toilet. The room was above the kitchen and breakfast room, and the kitchen door shutting makes a loud bang clearly audible in the room. As the breakfasts are served from 7am, if you are not already awake, you soon will be.

I didn't have breakfast as I am on a Ketogenic diet and only eat fish. I was unaware that the restaurant did fish for breakfast so I always bring my own. My room was lovely and clean, however it was a little out dated but that wasn't a problem. The bed was so comfy, I though I was at home when I woke up.

The only problem that I had was the fact that I am disable and struggled with the stairs. There are no ground floor bedrooms and I was on the first floor. I had 3 pieces of luggage and had to go up 2 flights of stairs. This hotel is not designed for disabled people in wheelchairs which is such a shame as being more accessible would only improve your ratings. The bathroom sink was blocked and there was no toilet brush.

The four-poster bed was incredibly comfortable, whilst the superior double room (Nr 11) was beautifully spacious, complete with balcony overlooking the river, park and the statue of Captain Mainwaring! Wonderful deep bath to relax in (critical when you are both 6ft plus). Breakfast was OK, but the dinner was exceptional. The staff we encountered were all cheerful. most attentive and very helpful.

We like a bedroom window open at night, but were unable control the amount that it was open, or the ability to close it altogether! We requsted soft boiled eggs for breakfast, but were presented with hard boiled, which we had to send back.

We were in a room with four poster bed which was antique and very comfortable. Everything in that area of the hotel spoke of age and antiquity. There are even covered panels over original painted decoration on plaster walls. And a panel showing wattle and daub wall, found during renovations in 1964. Everything was “real and genuine” a beautiful place. The staff were very helpful and went out of their way to make our stay good.

Unfortunately the towel rail and extractor fan did not work in the bathroom, but that did not detract from our stay.

This was our 2nd visit, breaking the journey to the coast, for us and the dog. Very comfortable beds! Free parking if you register at reception on Check -in and plenty of parking spaces. Cooked breakfast was lovely. Dog friendly throughout - our dog loved the fuss and additional touches in the bar (biscuits and blankets). Some great riverside walks close by too.

On Sunday evening we ate in the bar and service was very slow, guests queuing for drinks. The food took around 45 minutes to arrive BUT it was excellent.

What a lovely room,i booked a single room and was wowed to see i had a upgrade,probably due to the time of week i was there.Room 22 was lovely had all i needed in it,fan ironing board and iron, kettle with plenty of teas and coffees lovely shortbread as well 😋.Staff was very pleasant and very helpful. Lovely old building had great character to it.Stairs would be tricky for some people but staff are there to help Yes it is in need of a bit of tlc but there was a chap doing bits when i was there. Great location to town and the Abbey ruins plus gardens. I would definitely be staying there again on my next visit to thetford.

Nothing it was prefect for me

Breakfast was excellent. Huge choice including avocado and salmon. The room was huge and beautiful, extremely comfortable. Free parking always a bonus. Evening meals were excellent.

The bar staff need training on the tills and more knowledge of the deals. They were very slow. Non of the staff wore any uniform/ identification. The food was good, but slow to come out.. 40 minute on mains, 45 minutes on desert.

Lovely historic place 😍 and the hotel was perfect. I love the old style and look. Would definitely recommend it and stay with you again

Nothing to dislike regarding my stay. However warning to future guests is be aware if you order food from 3rd party business ie macdonalds as not reliable at all. But nothing to do with the hotel at all. That's my 2nd stay there now and it won't be my last . Regards to staff.Mr Darren Boag
