Probably the best place we've stayed in while traveling. Host is super reachable by WhatsApp, house is sparkling clean, many amenities, great location in-between the neighborhoods to visit, super good value for money. Host even had one bike available for us, but sadly the 2nd had an issue and as a couple we ended up not using bikes. Would recommend this place to anyone

Wasn't the best futon we sleep on, even though up to average standards (this is peaking a needle in a haystack on an otherwise perfect place). From the station you can walk 30 mins or take a bus here, but Kanazawa anyway functions a lot on buses

Right from the start we would like to highlight the hostess who was extremely kind and helpful when one of us fell ill and had to go to hospital. She called an ambulance for us over the phone and the whole time she was wondering how he was doing. The fact that there were 4 of us in one average sized room on the ground floor meant we were head over heels, but we had counted on that and not a criticism of the hostess. The accommodation was very clean and there was everything we needed and didn't need. The hostess had really thought of everything. The accommodation was located just 2 minutes from the busy geisha quarter, and yet there was incredible quiet throughout. Thank you and highly recommended.

The host at Guesthouse Hakuka made us feel incredibly welcome from the moment we arrived. The guesthouse was charming and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Its location near the Higashi Chaya District was ideal, allowing us to explore the area when it was less crowded, which made the experience much more enjoyable.

One downside of staying at this guesthouse was the lack of an on-site host, which can be a bit tricky if an issue arises or if you're looking for more personal interaction. Additionally, like many Japanese guesthouses, the insulation isn’t great, so the quality of your rest depends on the behaviour of other guests. Luckily, everyone during our stay was quiet and respectful, so it didn't disrupt our experience.

Clean, spacious, variety of amenities provided, AC/heater in room, quiet, close to higashi chaya district, self check in, option to leave luggage for a few hours after check out time, very friendly owner, access to the kitchen

An occupied sign outside the bathtub/shower would be helpful. My friend (female) was taking a shower but did not lock the wooden sliding door (so other guests will have access to the laundry). Another guest (male) was not aware that the shower was preoccupied and ended up opening the shower door while my friend was still in it.

The apartment is conveniently located in Okubo. It is a ten-minute walk to Okubo Station which is one stop from Shinjuku Station on the Chuo Line. There is a supermarket, open until midnight, just a five-minute walk away. The owner kindly met us at Shin Okubo Station and drove us to the apartment where he explained how everything we needed to know. Having previously lived in Tokyo for several years I was prepared for the limited space but it works well for a single person or a couple. Having a washing machine was a bonus during our extended stay.

Japanese television is an acquired taste. We would have appreciated access to movies or documentaries to enjoy late at night, either in English or with English subtitles.

Large bedroom. Comfortable futon mattresses and warm bedding. Air con in bedroom. Shower room and bathroom vanity area were well equipped. The host let us use their bicycles which was fantastic as we could travel to attractions faster than walking and without waiting for the loop bus. The location is excellent. Very close to the higashiyama old town district and close to the river. It was Sakura time when we visited with beautiful blossoms everywhere.

Nothing, I'd stay again here.

Lovely little guesthouse close to the Kazuemachi Chaya (Geisha) district and river. Also walking distance from the castle and Kenrokuen gardens, which are 100% worth a visit. The host is very lovely and accommodating and helped me forward my luggage on using the post office service (I’ve only used Yamato previously in Japan and it worked just as well). Kitchen is well equipped so gives you the option to cook which is a nice change from hotels.

Walls are thin so you can hear other guests a bit. Whilst there are 3 toilets, there’s only one bathroom with a shower/bath between 4 rooms, which meant having to wait sometimes for a while to be able to use a shower, which was a little inconvenient when in a rush in the morning, so would factor in getting up early to make sure you’re not delayed. Minor in the grand scheme of things.

Location near the Higashi-Chaya district was good, and the guesthouse had everything you need including a kitchen and washing machine. The futon mattress was comfy and I got the best sleep of my entire trip there. The hosts were nice.

The air in the bedroom was a bit stuffy, which I suspect was coming from the tatami mats. The walls are literally paper thin so you can hear the others guests even if they're whispering, though it didn't disturb my sleep. Overall I think it's great value for the cost.

- There was no staff there but instructions to access the place and my room were clear - Very clean and tidy, good amenities - Has a bath and free washing machine - The room has heating and cooling - Located on a quiet road, very close to Higashi Chaya district - Nice assortment of free coffee and tea drinks

- The check-in process was a little more tedious than at other places. I had to go out and get change for the additional tax I was supposed to leave as payment, so that was kinda inconvenient. - I didn't really understand how to use the washer. I asked some other guests who were Japanese, and they seemed confused by the settings too. - I could hear the person in the next room talking all night through the wall.

It was exactly as advertised and enjoyed that it was in a quiet local neighborhood. There was an amazing breakfast place close by with the souffle pancakes, poached eggs and hollandaise sauce served with a side salad only open from 8 -10 and what they made was cooked to perfection. I will dream about that breakfast!

There was not a dryer so I would have done laundry at the place we stayed before or after. Required some additional time management around sightseeing and some clothes blew off the line as there were only a couple of clips available.
