The welcome was warm and considered, with the team kindly accommodating our slightly delayed check-in after a flight - something we greatly appreciated. The property itself exudes historic charm, with beautifully kept gardens and a tranquil atmosphere that invites rest. The service was consistently gracious; Marchal and Lexton, in particular, were standouts - attentive without being intrusive. Breakfast was thoughtfully prepared and consistently excellent, elevating the overall experience.

The property retains much of its historic character, which is a strength-but certain in-room amenities would benefit from modernisation to meet the expectations of today’s traveller. The absence of a smart TV limited entertainment options. Introducing plug points that include Type-C adapters would be love-a small adjustment that would subtly blend functionality with the manor’s timeless elegance.

The guesthouse was very luxurious and the hostess was the one who really made it extra special.She in was very warm and friend and treated us as special guests in her own home.The room was very high end and luxurious in every way.Breakfast was so good.We got personalised service and all our food was served to us at our table.Food was delicious.Even the other guests were very friendly and greeted everyone.They went over and above the call of duty in to make us feel at home.Fires were lit in the lounge area when we requested it and everything was done with a smile.We also had a long conversation with the hostess.I will rate it 10 out if 10 and recommend it anyone who can afford service and comfort at its best.

This is a lovely hotel in a beautiful, quiet, residential area about 7 minutes drive from the centre of Stellenbosch. The extension to the back of the original property has been tastefully done and the bedrooms and bathrooms have been finished to a high standard. The living room area where breakfast is served in the original part of the house has a real warmth to it, especially if the fire is going in the winter. The breakfast itself is substantial, so much so that I skipped lunch. The owner and the staff are delightful. Good value for money.

It is such a delightful place to stay it's a shame they don't serve food in the evening. That said, there are a lot of restaurants to choose from on Kirk Street.

Van der Stel Manor is a beautiful place to stay, with a historic Cape Dutch style front building and a more modern/recent back building. We had a spacious and well-equipped room, and spent a comfortable night there. The residential neigbourhood was safe and beautiful, and there is enough parking possibility on the property. One gets easily and quickly to the city center by car (or Uber) - and just a easy to leave toward Fransschoek etc. The breakfast was exceptional, one of the best (if not the best) we had during a week at the Western Cape and three weeks in South Africa in total. Delicious and abundant, with some freshly baked delights. Great place as a starting point to discover Stellenbosch and the wine region.

I felt liked our room and the main back hall smelled a bit musty.

Everything was very well done. From the establishment accommodating a date change on our part, to the friendly and informative welcome from Petro on arrival, parking is safe and good, the manor is on a quiet suburban street 30 mins walk to Stellenbosch centre. The room was clean and comfortable. Also they were able to accommodate an early departure the next morning and moved the breakfast time 30 mins earlier which was so kind. And what a breakfast, it was excellent. Freshly baked scones just out of the oven with butter, home made jam and cream, unforgettable.

We should have chosen one of the rooms with the mountain or garden view. Our room was at the back of the property, it was a bit dark and the view was of the back wall and gas cylinders. We will chose better next time.

Great staff who did all they could to make the stay relaxing and enjoyable. Clean rooms and facilities. Nice roof top terrace, well maintained grounds and pool. Nice selection of wines. Lovley breakfast including scones, fruit, and a full cooked breakfast, in classic Manor setting. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We were allocated the loft room. It was a little small and had no view or balcony - I dont recall being told this beforehand. But it was functional, clean, comfy, and perfectly fine for a 1 night getaway. Nice coffee machine, fridge, TV and air con. I'd go back to staying at this accommodation without hesitation!! Thanks for a nice stay.

We stayed one night and arrived late - the staff were helpful and provided instructions to get through the gate and into the room. the Manor House is stunning and the rooms located here have patios and the gardens / roses and pool area are lovely. The breakfast was absolutely delicious and the staff wonderful- the manager especially was top class! we really enjoyed our stay overall and would return without hesitation as the main house is gorgeous, lots of period features and decorated beautifully.

Think we had the smallest room ever, no hanging space or anywhere to put your clothes; two tiny shelves for tea: coffee and a noisy fridge that we had to turnoff - (this was the only room that was available when booking) extension cables everywhere - seems to be an outhouse converted- next door to laundry for the guesthouse - a little underwhelming - I’d avoid this room if you can. Don’t think it’s representative of the main house.

Staying here felt just like being at grandma’s house — in the best possible way. 🥰 The place is incredibly cozy, charmingly decorated, and full of heart. Every little detail makes you feel welcome and at ease. The breakfast was absolutely delicious — homemade, fresh, and served with so much care. And the host… what a gem! She’s the sweetest lady, always ready with a warm smile and lovely conversation. If you’re looking for comfort, warmth, and a truly special stay, this is the place. Can’t recommend it enough! ❤️

Saying that my wife and I loved staying here is an understatement. I honestly do not have words to explain how lovely it was other than saying that the place was exceptional, the staffs' reception was welcoming and professional, always willing to help and recommend other things to do around Stellenbosch. The quality of food was so fresh and delicious, I liked their pancake. This place is value for money, it is safe, we opted parking our car on the road, right in front of the guesthouse and at midnight we would walk to our car and back without worrying abour crime. The place is also very clean, it looks exactly how it is shown on the pictures. We're definitely booking it again.

Zero. This place is amazing.

Our room was clean, the bed was big and it was a comfortable stay. The garden and the grounds were well maintained and the pool was big.

The communication at breakfast was very unclear. We sat down and were brought food but didn't know if there was a buffet area or not, or if they would keep coming round with food or if a cooked breakfast was available. Towards the end of the meal (around 20 minutes later) we were offered a cooked breakfast option which we didn't really take was we had already eaten what was placed in front of us. Our waiter was very friendly but you could smell that he had been hard at work. The fridge/minibar in the room was empty.
