The hostel is located in the heart of Gion district, making it so easy to explore the area. It’s also not a far walk from bus stops and the subway station. Lots of cafes and restaurants in the area. I stayed in the female dorm and the bunks were quite spacious and comfortable. All spaces were clean, the showers worked well and the shower stalls were fully private, the kitchen had everything you needed. The staff were very welcoming, happy to answer any questions, and assist you with anything you need. A special thank you to Hiro-san for making my stay so memorable! She is so kind, funny, and friendly, I had the best time chatting with her!

The dorm room and bunks can get a bit stuffy

Wonderful place, we immediately felt at home. Lovely staff, beautiful rooms and a great location to explore Gion, one of the nicer parts of Kyoto (if you ask me). The (shared) toilets and bathrooms were good and clean and with plenty of capacity for the number of guests. Great tips and suggestions (e.g. breakfast options) published by the staff in the hall of the guesthouse.

The wooden floors can be a bit squeaky and we had to remind our daughter a couple of times to refrain from jumping, dancing, gymnastics and acrobatics to avoid bothering the other guests. Also, we had hoped for a small garden but the garden wasn't accessible to the guests. Not a biggie.

- you get a traditional Ryokan experience with tatami, futon, sliding doors, etc. - prices are very reasonable, especially given how expensive most hotels in Kyoto are. We booked our own room instead of using the dorms. - room comes equipped with a heater/Aircon unit - staff clean diligently and take good care of the property. They're also very friendly and helpful - great location right in the middle of Gion, steps away from Yasaka shrine and close to Kiyomizudera.

- the building is old, so the insulation is unfortunately quite bad. We were freezing cold on many of the nights even with the heater unit since it's mounted high and we were sleeping low to the ground. - we requested extra blankets, which they kindly provided us with, however these blankets appear to not be part of their regular laundry rotation? There were hairs and other things stuck in these. - not sure how often the floor cushions get washed but they felt a little grimy

This was a great place to stay in Kyoto, especially if you enjoy being in the heart of the city's historic area. The location is fantastic — full of charm, character, and beautifully preserved old architecture. The property is a hostel-style setup with shared bathrooms and a communal kitchen and dining area. The first floor has private rooms, while the second floor offers dorm-style accommodations. There's also a lovely common room with a peaceful atmosphere and a nice view outside. A perfect spot for travelers looking for an authentic and relaxed experience in Kyotos old town.

Nothing :)

Huge comfortable room (we’ve got room for 4 people with private bathroom and shower), friendly stuff, smoking area right near the entrance, great view from the window. Everything was clean. Main street of Gion disctrict is 5 minutes away by walk. And if you go through Yasaka Shrine — you’ll find konbinis, cafes, shops in also 5-7 minutes walk only.

We arrived by taxi, but walk with huge suitcases might be hard for some people because it’s based on a hill. Again we didn’t face this issue, but keep this in mind while planning the route

Fantastic location if you are wanting to base in Gion. Walkable distance to the main streets. The staff were friendly too and I also made some new friends with other solo travellers! I was also doing work remotely and the free-use internet PC was a saving grace for uploading documents as I did not bring my laptop in my luggage. Bonus tip: There was a breakfast/lunch recommendation posted on the wall in the communal space, being Cafe Roji-Usagi, which I went to, twice. One of the most memorable home-made comfort meals I had during my trip in Japan.

Personally I found the mattress very uncomfortable. I requested another blanket to add another layer and found that helped a bit.

This was one of the nicest hostels I’ve ever stayed in. The location was perfect. The attitude of the staff was welcoming, friendly and laidback which helped create an easygoing atmosphere that many Japanese hostels fail to achieve. The cleanliness was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced, in my two nights staying here I watched them clean everything; including the often neglected air conditioning vents. The building is over 100 years old so you get a real traditional experience which is pretty cool, but expect some typical issues that come with old buildings like noise and longer wait times for hot water.

That being said there were some minor issues that can’t be blamed on the old building; the curtains on the dorm beds are not blackout material which, given the 5 am summer sunrise, can be really confusing to the body and really disturbing to your sleep. I would probably give this hostel a 10 out of 10 if they were to fix the curtain problem, but the ability to get a good sleep in a hostel is too important not to factor into the rating. Side note: they could probably do with changing their earplugs brand for sustainability, it doesn’t mould to the ear well and therefore can only be used one time vs other brands.

Location was incredible! Staff were really friendly - they made origami for our 5- and 1-year-olds, and we were never made to feel unwelcome for bringing our kids to such a special and peaceful place. The rooms were functional but beautiful. The common area was a nice escape, and we ate several dinners (from the nearby 7-11!) and breakfasts in the dining area, knelt around a table. Thank you, Q-beh, for allowing us to stay somewhere we never would have been able to afford otherwise!

It was quite cold (unseasonably so) during our stay, but we wrapped up warm so it wasn't too bad. There were air-conditioners in the room, which made things better (but dry) and the common area upstairs was roasting! The kitchen area was sometimes a bit cold, but that's really nitpicking.

A very cozy hostel experience with lovely atmosphere, felt like an experience. To me it was a nice bonus that coffee and tea were avalaible. As I stayed for a week, they changed the sheets after three days which to me is a service beyond the cost of this place. Others guests were also very nice. The location prime for sightseeing as it is in the very touristy Gion area. However, by sleeping there one is able to easily enjoy the atmosphere of the streets during less busy hours e.g. when walking home after dinner or on a morning stroll.

No complaints!

A magical place where calmness reigns. You can really feel peace and tranquility here. The spaces are traditional in the best sense of the word, and absolutely beautiful — it almost makes you want to just stay there without going anywhere else! The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, everything is spotless and very well maintained, and you’ll find everything you might need. For anything extra, everyone is super helpful! I had such a wonderful time here — I can’t recommend it enough.
