We have stayed here many times over the years. The hall is set in stunning grounds with a walled garden and topiary. There are walks around the hall and it’s a short walk to the village and a great pub. The rooms are well appointed for conference and student events with tea and coffee making facilities and basic toiletries. The breakfast offering ranged from the full English buffet which was nicely cooked to cereals toast etc There is a bar with bar meals served in the evening which we have used in the past.

We were surprised to receive an email two days before our stay advising the bar and catering services were not available on the Saturday night due to a function. This we felt was very short notice as the Gates Gala must have been arranged for some time. Our room was in a quiet area and the music stopped around 11pm so we were not too bothered by noise. However had we known there was an event with reduced services we would have stayed elsewhere.

Beautiful setting in the middle of nowhere yet only a few miles from Cambridge itself. With manicured lawns, a croquet lawn, and the gardens by Capability Brown make it intriguing to wander around finding interesting nooks and crannies all over. The bar area is unique and a lovely atmosphere. I had the best haddock and chips ever. The terrace seating is lit beautifully in the evening. The cooked breakfast was wonderful. The bedrooms were set around a courtyard with lovely views. The bed was extremely comfortable and a good size making it very accessible for disabled guests like myself. Thd sofa too was very cosy. A good amount of condiments in the room is always nice to see. Enough for 4-5 cups coffee and tea was perfect! All staff were wonderfully helpful and went out of their way make my time there a really pleasant stay.

Some of the cleanliness of the bathroom in room 15 could be improved by a thorough clean around the shower drain and toilet and its surrounding. It did put my off showering there to be honest. Signage around the property could make it much easier to find your way around the large estate. Especially for wheelchair users. Whilst the lift was really useful there are steps in many areas in the building with no obvious alternative routes. Whilst I did find my way to the lower gardens the access route to them was difficult to find and in places almost to steep to navigate.

Quite a long walk from nearest bus stops but fine in good weather. Beautiful surroundings with wildlife (bats, herons, etc). Breakfast good , especially veggie sausages Lovely dining room and views outside with tables to sit in good weather. Room was fine - I suggest replacing small bottles of soap and shampoo with wall dispensers which would reduce plastic waste. There did not appear to be any recycling facilities in building.

Breakfast good but as I was there for 6 nights it got boring having exactly the same things every day. I would have liked a better selection of yoghurt. Toasters very slow and bread very boring.

Being a Harry Potter fan I loved it here, it had a walled garden, medieval ambience, long drive up to the house. The breakfast was a buffet help yourself which was plentiful and varied. The room had a view of trees and was old fashioned but suited the building. Free parking was great and plenty of it.

The only negative point was that the walls were mega thin, the first night I arrived the people who I believe the husband cd have had health problems coughed a lot! And the TV volume was loud! So I felt this spoiled the stay this continued for 2 nights and then on the 3rd night new guests arrived at 10pm and were noisy and talkative till 1am I was in room 25, both sets of guests were in room 26.

Beautiful setting. Hotel looks very impressive. Staff are polite and helpful. Breakfast was very good, plenty of choice. Room nicely appointed. Plenty of free parking. Lovely grounds to walk around.

Because it's a large Hotel lots of stairs and walking to get to room with cases, also to get to breakfast room as on ground floor. Room wasn't very warm radiators need bleeding! Although was a small fan heater in wardrobe which came in handy.Bar area/ lounge far too bright, not very cosy to have an evening drink. Do small selection of cooked food personally I don't think fish should be one of those as lounge area smelt very strongly of fish, really not a nice smell.

I done a group booking and had 10 rooms. A mixture of twins and doubles. All rooms were good apart from no heating at all over the weekend even though reception staff assured us they would sort it. I am sure this will get sorted before it gets too cold. Have to say prior to arriving everyone at reception had been excellent to deal with. All very helpful to the needs of some in my party needing particular help due to disabilities. Price we got for the rooms was excellent. Sadly when it came to organising an evening meal for 20 of us, their price was too much so for our 2 night stay we ate in the evenings in local pubs. One was walking distance the other 2 miles away. The breakfast was buffet and eat as much as you like which was good. Bar was open all day and closed promptly at 11pm. Bar prices were good compared to cambridge or London But bar area was still accessible after 11pm which was good. The grounds are excellent to walk around. Very relaxing. It's free to park and has a large car park with disabled parking right at the entrance. It's a short distance to the park and ride that gets you into cambridge in 10 minutes. 2026 cost was £4 return. As you can see from the pictures it's a beautiful building. Lots of character inside and out. It's an education establishment attached to cambridge university. So expect maybe courses going on or conferences. So would I book here again? Most definitely.

There was confusion regarding payment. Nothing to do with the hotel. All down to booking.com. I had been assured by booking.com that the cost of the 10 rooms would be paid by those who were occupying them. I had a verbal conversation with booking.com about this and an email from them confirming this Turns out that I was charged by booking.com. for the 10 rooms. So my party then had to reimburse me. So a heads up to anyone booking more than 1 room, check who is paying.

I asked for a round tower room as it was my partner's birthday, and we got one with a nice view over the garden and topiary, although a rather large tree obscured the rest of the view. Check in was simple, the room was clean, bed comfy, nice linen, nice buffet breakfast. It's a beautiful house in a gorgeous location. The entrance hall and reception are quite period style but the rooms are very modern, so don't expect a super historical room with a four poster bed or anything. Only a short drive to Cambridge centre, great location.

I didn't notice the fresh fruit in the dining room at breakfast as it was a bit hidden in the far window recess. The wall mounted tea and coffee station in our room was a bit strange as I had to carry the kettle and mugs over to the main table in order to make the drinks.

The venue is stunning and steeped in history including British royalty. I felt like I had gone back to being a student in my single room but not in a negative way! It was comfortable and offered everything I needed from kettle, tea and coffee to diddy shower gel and shampoo bottles. The window even opened a decent width not restricted by stupid H&S rules but I guess you wouldn't put a small child in a single room so it's ok. Breakfast was fab, lots of choice. The gardens and grounds are beautiful. The bar mitzvah party was quiet after 11pm so no complaints.

I'm fit and active so room 95 way up at the back of corridors and stairs wasn't an issue for me but the rooms up there would present difficulties for less able folk. I only saw a short lift beside a small flight of stairs, I don't know whether there are other lifts. The car park is a little distance from the building but less able folk can park out front.

This is a beautiful country house located outside Cambridge with wonderful grounds. The breakfast was fantastic. You eat in the dining room on long tables, but there is plenty of space if you don't like "sharing". There is a cafe and the coffee is excellent. We didn't eat there as the menu is very limited. Our room was lovely and quiet as requested. It was a good size for two. Facilities were sufficient for our needs. It is fantastic value. Would stay again

It can be a fair walk to your room so if you are limited in how far you can walk let them know, also if you need ground floor. The furniture is worn... It is clearly well used. The bathroom is not modern, if you only like new this is not for you. The limited menu in the cafe meant we had to go out for dinner. None of this spoilt our stay though.

Absolutely fabulous grade one listed building and grounds, lots of features inside and out. Great breakfast using local quality produce. The staff were welcoming and efficient with no fuss even though we arrived late in the evening. For £78 with a buffet breakfast in a country hall so close to Cambridge it is damn good value for money.

Yes the bathrooms need upgrading. But it depends how precious you are if you complain about it. And yes it is a working university building so the people complaining about it having school canteen vibes at breakfast......get real and go and see what you can get in the centre of Cambridge for £78. This is probably more what I didn't like on the reviews I read 🤣
