This hotel was a "Hidden gem" in our trip through the Northern France. It is a very nice family owned hotel. It was clean, nice, well renovated place. From the location perspective it was also nice. It is a few minutes to the see, nice sand beach. Plenty of local and very authentic evening events. If you want to have a good food - plenty of places around, and also the hotel offers you something special. We had a nice chat with the owner, he purchased the fish for us and we had a very delicious dinner next evening. want to have something delicious - talk to the owner. If you need something - it is easy to purchase in the grocery store, which is in 2 min walk. It is not huge, still, essential items are available there. Place is nice, quice, we could sleep with opened door enjoying nice fresh sea air during the night. (We were lucky, our room was in the back house of the hotel with no windows to the street.) Parking was not an issue, there are two areas for the cars, completely free of charge, about 3 min walking distance.

Surprisingly, there is nothing we can find to pick on. All was good. Room was relatively small, but this was ok for us. Size of the bed has compensated it with no issue.

It's a stylish and modern hotel on the main road - so easy to find and just a few minutes walk from Sword Beach - yet quiet and peaceful even in mid-summer. There's some free parking in front of the hotel and plenty more by the church. My room was ultra-comfortable with a view over the town. The owners were charming and served a fine steak for dinner. Sadly, as I was catching an early ferry, there was no time for breakfast. The Brittany Ferries port of Ouistreham is only ten minutes drive away along the coast but it's worth staying a little longer to discover the D-Day historical sites and ancient cities such as Bayeux.

I always wish French hotels would install small fridges in the rooms so guests can chill water etc. But they hardly ever do. I'm sure your British guests would appreciate a kettle, mugs and tea/coffee supplies as well. That would make your little hotel perfect!

Excellent location, near the beach & restaurants/bars. The room was spotlessly clean. Bed very comfortable and the room was quiet considering it overlooked the main road. Shower really good.

Could have done with a kettle & tea making facilities and 1 small bottle of water wasn’t adequate for 2 people. Considering the properties we’ve stayed at before for the same price (with breakfast and the above included) we felt this hotel wasn’t as good value for money and this is reflected in our score.

Excellent place to stay if visiting this part of Normandy. The hotel was super clean and run by a very friendly and accommodating couple. Car parking is easy with a free car park in the church square just around the corner. The bedroom was very comfortable and well appointed (note - steep stairs to get rooms), and very quiet (we were in a room at the back of the hotel. Being around the corner from the church, the bell start at 7am, so you don't need to set your alarm. Breakfast was excellent with an amazing choice of food. Only ate dinner once in the restaurant and again the food was excellent.

Would have preferred to have a kettle and coffee/tea in the room as we didn't want to take breakfast every morning and just get on our way sightseeing.

I had asked for a twin room in a quiet location and got a beautiful room at the back of the hotel overlooking a flower filled courtyard. It was exceptionally quiet as it was an annex to the hotel itself but easily accessible through the breakfast room. It was spotlessly clean, the beds were very comfortable and the duvet and pillows were new and very cosy and comfortable. Although there was not a full restaurant on site - it was right across the road from a terrific restaurant specialising in Moules and Crepes as well as other full meals. The breakfast was excellent - cereals, eggs, ham and cheese, fresh croissants, home made jams, yogurts. Something for everyone. The owner was a very pleasant young man who did everything to make you feel welcome. Its this bespoke service that we liked so much. He takes great pride in his little hotel and he should. Its only 5 minutes walk from the beach. The area is very quiet at night but a lovely village to visit with a pretty village church and a 10 minute drive to the port. Definitely will be staying here on future trips to France.

Honestly we had no complaints at all. It was exactly what we needed for a night in Caen having travelled up from Bordeaux so we were rested for the ferry to Portsmouth the next day. T

Nice traditional hotel with friendly and helpful staff. Lion Sur Mer is a pleasant town and it's a short walk from the hotel down to one end of Sword Beach. Several restaurants nearby. The Manager offered to make us a meal. Just a 10 minute drive to the ferry. Good to be able to park right outside the hotel. We would be happy to stay there again.

Not a 'didn't like' because it's stated in the listing, but the standard double room is fairly small so I don't think I'd book it for multiple nights.

Beautiful family run hotel 5 minutes walk from the beach. Spotlessly clean. Friendly owners, lovely ambience. Quiet location, good choice of food for breakfast, adjacent to terrific local restaurant frequented by locals - serving moules and galettes. Our room overlooked a pretty quiet courtyard. Although small, its clever design (which is modern) meant we had everything we needed for our overnight stay. Less than 10 min drive from the ferry port. Already pre-booked for our next trip to France.

Perfect location, easy to park for free in the Eglise car park 2 mins walk away. Check in was so friendly (note that hotel only opens at 4pm) and our pre-request for dietary requirements for breakfast was confirmed on check in. Double room was compact but perfect, stylish and very clean. Teenage children had a twin room which was also spotless and plenty of space. We enjoyed a bottle of wine on the bar terrace watching the world go by…perfect sunny summer evening. Breakfast was fresh and lots of choice. The little town is gorgeous, full of character with a fab promenade for a morning walk.

This place is delightful. A really warm welcome, and it seems no detail is overlooked. The couple who run this hotel do so with professionalism and a personal touch. The rooms are very clean and well appointed. The beds are very comfortable. Make sure you try the breakfast...it is excellent. You can also have a drink at the bar or eat in their restaurant...really very good. In short this hotel is a real gem and highly recommended.

There was nothing I did not like.
