The Rock is gorgeous and iconic, with beautiful scenery from the rooms and terrace restaurant. Food and drinks were excellent, we were exceptionally pleased and wished we had stayed a few extra days to take advantage of all the amenities. The breakfast here is simply the best hotel breakfast we have ever experienced!

While almost every staff we encountered was kind and accommodating, we had a very negative experience attending their champagne high tea to celebrate our engagement. The restaurant manager first questioned whether we could afford the meal, and then proceeded to be rude and cold throughout the experience. This haughty and pretentious treatment from her really affected our experience. Thankfully all other bar staff and servers we met were kind, courteous, and provided good service.

The room was great, comfortable with a superb view over the harbour and two large balconies. Beds were comfortable, and bathroom and shower was large and well appointed.

Staff seemed a little harassed and disorganised, I have stayed at the Rock on four previous occasions and this time I felt things were not running as smoothly as in the past. It may have just been particularly busy but it was very apparent in the bar.

The hotel was very comfortable and clean. The suite had an excellent lounge area and separate bedroom. The breakfast had a good choice, especially of pastries.

The check in took a while as only 1 member of staff was available. Generally the staff were helpful but did not go out of their way to help with the exception of the concierge!

Lovely staff. The view from our comfortable room lovely too. The hotel is expensive but we knew that when we booked so no suprises with the bill. The location is great but it is quite a walk up the hill from the town so those less mobile might find it a challenge. The restaurant served good food and the hotel is also within walking distance of great waterside restaurants. Again the walk a bit steep. The cable car station for a ride to the top is close and the botanic gardens (free) just below the hotel. The Rock also has a lovely big swimming pool and grounds just accross the road.

The only downside were the smokers. Sitting outside on the restaurant terrace to eat could be a bit unpleasent. We thought the smoking area should be situated well away from the restaurant.

The location is excellent, close to almost all tourists attractions and bus stops.

One of the receptionist just assumed that everyone is good at directions and get to new places so when I asked her the second time of how to get to town centre by bus, she got quite annoyed and impatient, which made me feel silly and embarrassed. I said now I understood but went to find another staff to explain to me.

We had booked a suite with a sea view and we were shown into a dark room with a side view of an apartment block - no sea. We expressed our disappointment and the next day we were moved into a lovely room at the front, which matched the description of the room we had booked. The original room (432) should not be offered and charged as a room with a sea view.

The Rock was altogether pleasant. Pleasant in the way it looked and functioned. Not really spectacular or outstanding but all round good and solid. The porter on the door was friendly and polite without being subservient, the reception staff did their job quickly and efficiently. Faced with our slightly noisy wedding party the bar staff responded by being helpful and courteous. It felt a bit old school, a bit Empire. Very good indeed.

I wasn't overly taken with the breakfast. One woman was a bit snappy with us because we hadn't booked when we all knew she was going to give us a table. The food was reasonably priced and good enough but it was a bit limited somehow and the service was slightly more haphazard than the rest of the hotel. It's unfair to say I didn't like it though. It was fine.

The views are spectacular. The room was reasonably spacious, although the bathroom was slightly cramped. Every member of staff was helpful and efficient. The bar and restaurant were excellent. Free parking was a bonus.

On our first morning the cleaning lady knocked on the door and proceeded to open it straight away while we were trying to get our clothes on to answer her. We made sure we put the 'do not disturb' sign on the following night. Although most things were to a high standard corners were cut in odd areas e.g quality toiletries but really cheap toilet paper; thin worn towels; tea/coffee/milk/water were not replenished and I never found the well-advertised bathrobes. The bar and restaurant meals were excellent but breakfast wasn't very well organised and we waited 20 minutes for a top-up of coffee, gave up waiting on tne orange juice to be replenished and the sausages tasted like sawdust rather than meat.

Everything except reception staff service really. The new pool area is beautiful. Little confused why the pool is salt water though. My daughter was in tears after getting it in her eyes not knowing before hand. I think a sign would be a good idea just so guests are aware before entering the water.

Reception Staff were not terribly welcoming or cheerful. Surprised by thier lack of fluency to communicate effectively in English. Have stayed here before and staff then were lovely and always with a smile.

Perfect room. Beautiful hotel.

one lift was out of order. other one was extremely slow. pool was closed, weather was still warm. TV in bedroom room no signal.
