The new owners are very welcoming and hard working but they are thin in the ground. The breakfast was excellent, plenty of choice, well cooked. As I was one of the last both days the yoghurt and fresh fruit choice was limited and there was no muesli but that’s really my only gripe!
There wasn’t a soft chair to relax in in the bedroom and the plumbing has seen better days. Beyond this everything was very comfortable and I’d very happily return. Several people commented on the huge portions of the evening meal and less might be welcomed by many people. It was excellent food though! A little more choice might be good if you’re staying longer than a few days.

Due to me .naking a mistake with my booking, The Royal Hotel was last minute, so glad to find somewhere to stay. The room was large, the beds very comfortable, but it was so hot on arrival. Once we opened the velux window it took about an hour to cool down. It was on the second floor, so quite a difficult climb with luggage ( we're both 70+). The shower over the bath was good, but the toilet bowl was cracked. Overall it was very clean. The breakfast was tasty, but could have been served on a larger plate!! The gentleman who greeted us seemed to do everything in the hotel. He took breakfast orders, served the breakfast, we saw him outside on leaving, sorting out the rubbish at the wheelie bins. The only other members of staff we saw were two cleaning ladies, who were very cheerful.

Jim who works at reception and everywhere else was very warm and welcoming...was well suited for this type of job . We enjoyed having some drinks in the lounge, the person who served us was friendly and helpful, sorry I didn't catch his name, but he was very nice. Breakfast in the morning was exceptional for my husband, he chose the full breakfast, and was not disappointed in any way..
The room was a bit dated but clean, I thought the mattress was not very comfortable, hence not a great night's sleep, but that was probably also due to the fact that an early morning delivery was occurring outside our room, and Jim did make reference to it in the morning at breakfast.

When we walked through the door we were treated like 5 star guests ,and was told we were entitled to an upgrade and they gave us a room with a 4 Poster bed which delighted my American Wife. The breakfast choices were lavish and plentiful, I ordered the Scottish Breakfast, and received bacon, egg, link sausage, haggis, black pudding, potato scone ,hash brown, and baked beans , the plate was virtually overflowing, we would recommend this hotel for the friendly staff , and the cleanliness of the room and the breakfast.

We are having a family holiday doing the NC500 drive and really enjoyed our stay at The Royal Hotel Tain. The hotel is well priced, in a great position right in town and easy walk to shops & restaurants with parking on the premises . Rooms are comfortable & clean with a good bar offering well priced drinks and an excellent selection of whisky’s 😊. There is a restaurant on site for dinner but after a long day driving we went for a walk to stretch our legs & had dinner up the road but breakfast was very good smorgasbord selection of cereals, fruit, yogurt, toast tea & coffee etc with excellent freshly cooked options 👏👍. Would definitely stay again & definitely recommend as a good option for a stay.
Nothing honestly I believe Royal Tain hotel is a very good option, good team, traditional hotel offering good value in a geed location.

The Royal tain Hotel it's a quirky old world type victoriana style perfectly adequate for a short stay if your visiting the Highlands we has a room on the first floor double four poster which had lovely views out to the dornoch firth all fitted out with victoriana furniture so if you prefer that style perfect I must be honest and say the bed frame was very dusty but apart from that the room was clean and a great size there are other modern rooms at the rear of the property the breakfast is extensive and good the staff a friendly and polite friendly

Very welcoming staff, I felt like a royal, room has a good size, looks like in an old castle, everything very clean, no wishes unfulfilled, breakfast was freshly cooked after ordering it from a big choice and very delicious. You could also have cereals, bread, fruit, etc. I would definitely go there again!
The shower is really small and narrow, no place to put your shampoo and things and it’s too narrow to bend down. Space in the bathroom would have allowed a slightly bigger one I guess.

Ease of check-in. The friendliness of the staff. The location was central to our needs. Rooms were a good size. Very clean. Toiletries included. Fluffy towels. Hot shower with good water pressure. Conplimentary water, tea, coffee & biscuits in the room. Breakfast was delicious. Plenty of parking. Definitely recommend.
Rooms were very cold. The heaters didn't seem to work. I didn't realise this until I had returned from a night out - very early in the morning. Although I'm sure if I'd noticed this earlier and asked the staff, they would have rectified it for me. I found a blanket to put over the top of the duvet, which helped a little.

A huge room (the Boardroom) with an excellent modern bathroom, beautifully equipped with high class bath and shower (but no toilet roll holder!)
No upstairs CH, so reliant only on fan and convector heaters; just about OK this time of year but in winter could be pretty cold? Some really good modernisation has been done, but much of the hotel still feels like urgent work needs to be carried out (e.g. windows, curtains) and it’s all a bit chaotic and cluttered, e.g our room had ten chairs in it (enough for a Board meeting!), totally unnecessary.

It’s location. The breakfast was fine but there was also a lot of choice. The staff are friendly.
The room could be doing with being updated. The remote control was held together with tape. The room door didn’t close properly there was a gap between the door and frame. The walls in the bathroom next to the toilet had a hole in it and there was a big stain also on the same wall. But for an overnight stay it was fine. It was a bit noisy with other guests just banging their room doors when going in their rooms instead of trying to close them quietly as to not disturb other guests.
